Sounds just like mine - 97 Vauxhall Engined one with Low Pressure Turbo.

I've learnt (after years of petrol engines) to keep it in the "power band" of 2200 to 3500. The gearing steps seem to facilitate this, and suitable progress can be maintained.

If needing to take off in a hurry (busy roundabout for example) give it some throttle to get the revs up and turbo spinning before letting the clutch in.

There was a thread here a while ago on how to drive a diesel that I found useful as a newbie.

Hope this helps,

Not sure I ever needed an air freshener in my car anyway, but a year or so ago I tried one of these aromatic oil-containing ones that clips to the grille in your air vent. Unfortunately a tiny dribble of the oil escaped on to the dashboard plastic and light switch. Result: paint removed from plastic and switch rendered inoperative (stuck). The air freshener manufacturers warn against the aggressive effects of these oils - believe them. Cost £££'s to replace the switch assembly. :-(

One problem is that a lot of the smells come in from the outside - exhaust fumes, chemical pollution (factories etc) organic pollution (think cows), Chines/Indian/Fast Food take-aways, the local toe-rags creating bonfires on every available square metre of land...... I could go on.

Anyway we need other smells to mask these, even if they are synthetic smells - especially if we drive with our windows open.

Question Rusty discs
Jez

My parents purchased a new Honda Accord in October 2002 and the discs are now displaying signs of rusts. They took it back to the main dealer and were informed that this is quite usual. The car is used for short journeys only and is kept in a garage during the day and night so this does not seem usual to me. Can anyone comment as to whether this is normal and if not make any recommendations as to how they should deal with this.
Thanks. Read more

My Triumph 2000 did 140,000 miles before I sold it as the clutch was going. Never changed the disks. Great car. Lovely engine. Smooth as you like. Much better than the 2,500 PI. Laycock de Normanville overdrive on 3rd and 4th!
