my german sports car may have a slight coolant leak, trouble is the engine is hidden so I cant eyeball - is it possible for a garage to pressure test the system? - many thanks. Read more
Trials of Black Box recorders for police cars have apparently led to a 'drastic' reduction in the number of accidents involving said cars. (Guardian)
Hmmm.. so what does this actually translate as?
Police drivers knowing they can't obfuscate/make 5h1t up when they have a prang, racing back for lunch/corrie on t' telly?
BTW I am not anti-police and am not interested in creating a knock-a-copper thread. If people knew that their erratic/careless driving would be scrutinised in the event of an RTA would they not drive with a bit more self awareness. (I think they call it accountability.)

P.S.
Reminds me of the accident related thread which had a post about a camcorder and an 8 hour video-recorder in the boot etc...A followup suggested this might a little paranoid. I disagree, just because your paranoid doesn't mean there aren't a lot of lying prats on the road.
P.P.S. I'm at work, which is why l'm am on here and not out on a saturday night leering at wimmin' and hurling my own dung at passing cars. Read more
while black box recorders have some merits, i think the first call on police force money should be better training for their drivers
in the local paper is an item about a man who tried to kill himself, he jumped off the tyne bridge, but he was rescued, so he has decided to sue the policeman who jumped in to save him, but this is the stupid part, HE WON and got £8500. the police wont know to save??? Read more
I'm a "collector" of bumper stickers. Reminds of one which reads "Done something stupid? Sue someone and make some money".
In September this year my wife bought a silver Yaris Verso GLS Automatic from Trade Sales in Slough. I checked it very carefully and it was to full UK GLS spec. The car was imported from Belgium and there were a number of similar models at the delivery centre.
I eventually got the Vehicle Registration Document(V5) which showed it as a grey, 3 door CDX. ? the model is not produced in 3 door and the CDX version went out some time ago. However it also showed the CO2 emission as 167 G/KM which puts it into Band C. The Toyota Brochure and Website and DVLA website all show the emission as 165G/KM and in Band B. e.g £20 lower RFL
DVLA have changed the V5 to a silver 5 door GLS but have refused to change the CO2 figure and it remains in Band C. Trade Sales have sent me the Belgian Type Approval Certificate which shows it to be 167 G/KM.
I have spoken to Toyota UK who confirm that all RHD cars imported to Europe have the same specification engine; but they refuse to get involved.
I expect everyone else who has imported a Yaris from Belgium - where most come from - has a similar problem. It could apply to other makes and models as well.
Any ideas how I can take this forward?
Thanks

According to Toyota(UK) all Yaris Versos are built in Japan. I was told by Toyota(UK) that only the 1.0 Hatchback is made in France - the others in Japan.
There was a thread some time ago extolling the virtues of some obscure eastern tyre, Yoshikko or something. Can anyone assist with the make and dealer network?

Kumho perhaps? See search on this site.

Thanks for both replies. Apologies for the double entry on the same topic; a bit hasty on the mouse!
Why are Subaru cars, I think, referred to as Scooby ?

Just test drove in the Civic R and think I'm gonna buy.
The six speed box is the biz and there's so much more torque than previous vtech Hondas. Handling is somewhere between the Integra and the Accord, which is just about right.
January is earliest delivery, but think I'll wait for the new reg in March. They even said to shop around for a discount and they'd match it, so discounts can be had!!
I test drove the Scooby WRX (with ppp) and there's sod all in it performance wise. Just 8k in my pocket....... :-)
There's no other alternative is there? Cooper S maybe... Never bought a new car before so it's all a bit strange....
Looks like a "bargain" though, I seem to remember the Sierra Cosworth being about £24k ten years ago and that had the same power output! Read more
I had considered the Leon. It's definately a good price. But I don't need 5 doors and the Civic is 5 seconds quicker 0-100 (for example) which puts it in a different league. OK you can chip the Leon for an easy 210bhp but then it's goodbye warranty.
btw I was quoted £1000 not £800 for air con.
I am 6ft tall with long legs. My short test drive does not satisfy me that the short squabs front and back are comfortable on long jouneys.
No test driver has ever commented on the fact that VW has obviously shortened the seats to give the impression of space when there is not any.
I still like the car can anyone reassure me that my concerns are unnecessay?

No it doesn't. This all changed on caravans many moons ago (20+ years) and they are now all automatic. I can only assume it was to prevent people driving off without re-engaging the brakes.

Richard,
Yes most garages should have a tester that will apply pressure from the coolant filler.
From this it is often possible to see the leak or even hear it.
There are loads of things that can lose coolant without being obvious but a small weep now and again from the water pump can be hard to see.
