A one-owner 1979 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II with under 25,000 recorded miles gracefully ascended to over twice its mid estimate, selling for £42,560 A Mercedes-Benz owned 1966 230 SL Pagoda, also went over estimate at £88,296 As usual, Historics offered a number of individualistic, 'quirky', consignments, top honours going to a 1957 Brutsch Mopetta microcar – one of only 14 ever built - that proved its rarity value by passing to a new owner for £46,000, whilst an imposing 1962 Renault Galion pick-up truck, presented and sign-written in Ferrari livery astounded many with a flood of bidding that raised this no reserve oddity to a sale price to £33,600  Full results can be viewed at

  145mph Vectra for £18,595 27 May 2001 (News)
  Vauxhall has launched a 178bhp, 145mph 2.6 litre V6 version of the Vectra in a lame attempt to compete with the massively more competent Mondeo 2.5 Zetec S which lists at £500 more. The new Vectra gets to 60 in 7.9 seconds, has xenon headlights, cruise control and beefed-up front discs. Insurance is Group 16 and, for company car drivers, CO2 outpit is 236g/km.

  Fleet owners holding Porsche 911s were trying to buck this trend, some more successfully than others. Top Porsche price of the day was a resounding £62,100 for a year old 7k mile 997 Carrera S convertible. Bottom was £15k provisional for a 105k 98R 996 3.4 with 105k miles. A really beautiful 87k 99T Rover 75 2.5 KV6 Connoisseur, spotless inside and our, sold for £1,750.

  A trailer assist option (which also costs extra) takes the hassle out of manoeuvring a trailer, thanks to a semi-autonomous system that steers the van automatically when reversing.   Volkswagen's yet to confirm the Transporter 6.1's payload, but it's widely expected to mirror its predecessor’s maximum of 1278kg, which will leave it somewhat short against the 1400kg of the Vauxhall Vivaro and Ford Transit Custom. However, as before, the T6.1 gets the option of short or long wheelbases and high or low roof. As with its rivals, a bulkhead hatch allows the driver to use the full load length of the van by using the space under the passenger seats.
