Fiesta praised for 'outstanding design'

Tue, 24 Mar 2009
People considering buying a car this year may want to consider the latest edition of the Ford Fiesta after the model's performance in a recent competition.

The vehicle came away with a Red Dot honour for outstanding design from the event held in Germany.

Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen is a major design recognition programme and this year's competition saw 3,231 entries from 49 countries across 17 different categories.

All the products that participated were assessed in a number of areas including, innovation, functionality and quality.

Martin Smith said the award was particularly important to the manufacturer.

He explained: "Research shows that whether they are in Milan, Beijing or New York, customers put style at the top of their list."

Some 35,642 Fiestas have been sold in the UK since it was launched in August 2008.

March has been a successful month for Ford, with the company also being named manufacturer of the year by Fleet News.
