    Once the bearings are replaced, and shimmed correctly, the box will “go on” virtually indefinitely. Ask when, and if, the fuel injectors have been replaced. They fail due to water ingress, it more common on earlier examples. If it’s cutting out, or running roughly have them checked out. Have the EGR valve cleaned periodically, likewise check the rear brakes for binding and ask when the gearbox oil was last replaced.  An old van when it was replaced in 2014, the Trafic still has plenty of life left in it as a used purchase.

    What to watch Check to make sure it has been subject to all the necessary recalls. Volkswagen recalled all Amaroks built between 2001 and 2013 for a potential fuel leak problem, while 2014/15 Amaroks needed their front brakes checked as the callipers may not have been tightened to the correct torque. Check around the power steering return hose, it can get damaged and leak, leading to power steering failing.

    Engine oil manufacturer Mobil1 has launched a competition to offer one Honest John reader a year’s worth of free fuel at participating Esso filling station. With the ever-increasing cost of fuel the competition means someone will save a serious sum of money.   • Kia rewards drivers with bargain fuel stunt 22 Jan 2015 (News)
    Kia has promoted the Soul EV by taking over a fuel station and giving away full tanks of fuel for just £2.80. The promotional stunt took place at an unnamed garage to highlight the Soul EV’s ability to cover up to 132 miles from a full charge costing just £2.80.  Each motorist was charged  less than the price of a takeaway sandwich for their fuel, no matter how much they had put into their vehicle. Kia then filmed the reactions of the unwitting drivers as they entered the fuel station.  You can see their reactions by clicking the video below.
  • Supermarkets offer new ways to save on fuel 18 Jul 2013 (News)
    Supermarkets often come up with ways to entice customers into their stores, not least by offering money off fuel. The latest offers come from Tesco and Asda – though they’re quite different. Tesco is offering up to 30p off every litre of fuel if customers by specific items, in store or online, while Asda’s latest update to its mobile app shows fuel places for each of its stores.

  • Supermarkets cut fuel prices after Government pressure 6 Nov 2014 (News)
    Supermarkets have cut around 1p off a litre of fuel following calls from the Government for fuel retailers to pass on savings to consumers. Danny Alexander, Chief Executive of the Treasury is urging retailers to cut fuel prices  as the cost of a barrel of crude oil has fallen by a quarter since June; yet, since then, fuel prices only have fallen by around six per cent.

    Motor manufacturer Chevrolet has given the world a glimpse of its new fuel cell vehicle. The Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell was exhibited by the US company at the Globe 2008 Auto Future Tech Summit and features a fourth generation fuel cell propulsion system which has been developed by General Motors (GM).
