  Good afternoon, A friend of mine has recently had an early mid life crisis and purchased a 'Y' reg Maserati 3200GT. A very very nice car, but unfortunately it comes with eye-wateringly expensive servicing charges. £120 per hour for labour in the Maserati main dealer in Manchester. Anyway, do any of you know of any independent Maserati specialists in the north-west of England, preferably within a thirty miles radius of Southport?

  MPG not important but don't want to be hit hugely by depreciation. Two main contenders are used Porsche 996 or Maserati coupe (2001 '3200' or maybe 2002 '4200' (just about for the price). Maserati less common than Porsche and look good but need to have the thing start every morning. Porshe too obvious a choice??? Cheers, Taccy

• VW Group to buy Ferrari/Maserati/Alfa 24 Dec 2002 (Forum)
  According to a Italian news source VW group have been in negotiations with Fiat over the sale of Fiat's assets. First Alfa Romeo will be added to the already existing Ferrari/Maserati brand. The interesting bit is that VW Group would have up to 49% Stake in this new Italian group. The big stumbling block is GM who already have a stake in Fiat with furthers options in the future.

  I've got a 2000 Y Maserati 3200GT bought from a main dealer. It's an Auto 4 sp box. When the engine revs are between 2000-3000rpm and being driven slowly through that range, I hear a deep whooping sound. The dealer suspected that the auto box levels needed topping up - and so they did this.
