  • Hyundai i30 (2007 - ) - i30 crdi auto - anyone got one? 8 Feb 2010 (Forum)
http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/index.htm?id=284 >>Every week I get around 20 e-mails asking for Focus sized diesel, torque-converter automatics. So, as that article is at least a couple of years old, has anyone actually bought an i30 diesel auto? We've got the i30 1.4 Comfort, but my dodgy knee appears to be getting worse and it's time to swap to an auto.
  • Honda Accord UK (2008 - ) - 08 2.4 Noise from auto gearbox during gear change 30 Jan 2010 (Forum)
This is not always constant, but more frequent in an up hill. The car only has 3,100 km and is rather annoying, should I be concerned once this is an automatic gearbox, should this be reported to the local Honda Distributor as the car is still under warranty, does anyone else have a similar problem and was it solved ?

  • Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 96 2.0 Activa Clutch Issues 15 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Observing the clutch cable at the transmission end I cannot see any way of adjusting it so I think it must be an automatic adjusting cable. I learn a plastic clutch clip near the pedal often fails on Xantias.I'll be looking at this next. The garage tells me the clutch must have gone. It's only done 38K! Surely it can't have gone so soon?!

Done approx 33000 miles. Runs beautifully and never had any problems. How much do you think i can get for it?
  • Toyota Carina E (1992 - 1997) - 92 2.0 Engine performance 9 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Hi I have a Toyota Carina 1992 it?s a 2.0 L petrol engine and it?s Automatic. The Car has a small problem the car starts and drive all right but when you go on the Motorway or a high way it doesn?t pull all right, the engine revs up. but I can see the engine struggles to pull in the motorway and it consumes lot of petrol.
  • Signage of speed limits 13 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I understand the concept where any road with street lighting X? yards apart is automatically a 30 limit, unless repeaters are posted to show some higher limit. I drive regularly along a road which is/was a normal 60 mph limited country 'A' road, with no lighting. Now some '50' signs have appeared but there are no repeaters at any interval and people joining the road from a side turning would not be aware of this new limit.
  • Automotive new order - suggestions 10 Dec 2007 (Forum)
If it is patently obvious that the vehicle in front of you is about to parallel park, do not drive up to their back bumper and prevent them from doing so. Having a Taxi / mini cab does not automatically confer the right to sit on double yellow lines completely blocking the highway while you wait for a pre-booked fare or collect the money from the one you have just had.
  • First time continental drive - any advice? 13 Sep 2007 (Forum)
This is the first time I'm planning to drive (not from UK, I'll hire a car from Vienna) Thinking of driving on wrong side of the road makes me a bit scary. So, what advise you folks have? I plan to hire an automatic as I shall have time to concentrate on roads rather than fighting with gearstick in wrong hand! Thanx
  • Zafira alarm problem 16 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Son's 1999 2.0 diesel Zafira alarm keeps going off for no obvious reason which is, understandably, driving him mad. (His neighbours too, of course) It sets itself automatically on locking the car and when it goes off he says it can only be silenced by starting the engine. His usual trusted indy hasn't a fix, is a Vauxhall dealer likely to be able to find and fix the cause or alternatively disable the alarm?
  • small car for around £4.5k? 3 Apr 2007 (Forum)
It will replace her much loved f reg Nova! She wants something similar in size and around either 1.0 or 1.2 engine size. Possibly an automatic - though I guess that would only come with a bigger engine? Should also be easy to get in and out of. What suggestions would you all have? Budget is around £4500 so looking used. Mileage will be LOW!!!
  • Mondeo TDCI shuts off 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
My Mondeo TDCI 2.0 (2002) automatic gearbox, with 90.000 miles, when warm, (at normal working temperature), around 60 / 70 MPH enters "safety mode", (the glow plug lights) and 9 out of 10, a few seconds later, the engine shuts off.
  • Fiat Panda Selecta 16 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hello, I need to change the gearbox oil in my Panda Selecta, the CVT automatic box, and have not had much success in tracking down the oil. Apparently you can use Dexron for topping up but not for refilling. The Fiat agents weren't very helpful but told me I should use Tuvala CVT oil but they couldn't get it and I can't find it anywhere.
  • anyone tried the focus/astra autos? 7 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Safety being the priority and size vs space, I am looking at the new focus and astra estates. Problem is, I need an automatic for the wife, and can find NO auto reviews of either car. All I have learnt so far is stay away from CVT version on the focus, but they do seem I think to do a normal auto box version also. Has anyone tried or do you know anything about the auto boxes on these cars?
  • Accord - how much is it worth? 30 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Just a quick query - my Grandad is thinking about trading in his Honda Accord for a new Astra, but has no idea what to expect since it's got a tiny milage on it (circa 20k IIRC, may be less). It's X-reg, the SE Executive saloon variant with the 2.0 petrol engine and automatic gearbox.. Full service history etc, perfect condition. He's nearly 90 and finds it a bit big to park and likes the new Astra. It's got all the toys like parking sensors etc. Any idea what he might reasonably expect part ex?
