  Hi, I am looking for a car to tow our small caravan (1000kgs) and also fancy an automatic and probably diesel for the extra torque. Shortlist so far is Astra 1.6 diesel, Toyota Avensis diesel, Skoda Octavia. Looking to buy used from a car supermarket with a budget of upto £12K.
• Renault Laguna (1994 - 2001) - 98 1.9dti Won't start unless towed. 23 Mar 2010 (Forum)
  I have a Renault Laguna 1.9dti which will not start on the key but will go when tow started. The engine turns over as normal but wont fire on the key. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be. Any help greatfully appreciated. Regards Chris. slt

  i have just got a 05 focus estate and want ti wire the tow hitch up, Do I need a relay? Or can i wire it up like the older cars iv had?

  I am now wondering what will happen if I have to do a hill start when towing a trailer (Ivor Williams horse trailer). I've towed for years so am aware of how to do it but thought I'd ask if there was a "different way" to moving off in a jeep than any other car!? I know that sounds a dumb question.

  I am trying to expand my removals business as cheaply as I can. I looked at getting a large box trailer, 14ft long, and towing it with a 3.5T luton van. The combined weight of van + trailer would of course be much greater than 3.5T. So I read from the Gov.uk website that I  need an operators licence just to tow this trailer, not only that but need to upgrade my licence, that;s not so bad, but to have an operators licence you need an operators centre of operations!

  as a professional coach driver i am frustrated by countless idiots towing at illegal and dangerous speeds. my coach is limited to 62mph by law and i am forever being over AND UNDERTAKEN by eejets towing. the law changed in 1997 to give newly qualified drivers a total trailer limit of 750 Kgs. how many people who passed their test in '97 at the age of 18 are now 30 with a wife and a couple of kids and a caravan. i don't know of many caravans that way less than 750 Kgs.

  my key card was lost/stolen for the renault laguna the insurance company required it to be towed away to a safe location , the tow truck could not get in to my drive and because the car was locked he dragged it aprox 10 mts and the dragged it round a corner WITH THE HANDBRAKE ON AND THE STEERING LOCK ON !!

  Would a buyer believe the engine had 20K on it when the odo said 60K? If a car with an electronic odometer was towed like this, would it still read with the ignition off?

  Is this correct please. Also do you think the 1.9 diesel is powerful enough to tow a loaded car trailer. Plus could you also give me an approximate valuation on the van please. Many thanks.

  Fortunately I took out Gap insurance so I should be o.k. financially. My constraints are got to be auto, got to be estate and got to tow a 1500 kilo caravan comfortably long distance. Apart from another Omega I am looking at late models V70 or Saab 9-5 Estate. I have a few concerns regarding towing with these. 1 - The V70 is fairly well documented as a decent two car, but anyone experience of towng with the V70 diesel auto. 2 - The Saab is an unknown quantity as a tow car - so any feedback would be useful.

  I tow a caravan and found the auxilary plug and socket had melted, so I replaced them.  There does not appear to be any power to the socket so I think a fuse will have blown. Can anyone tell me ?  is there an inline fuse - if so where or is it fused from the fuse boards in the car - inside the engine compt or in the glove box.

  Electronic automatic retractable tow bar is not working. Car is 5 years old, I've had it for 14 months and never used the tow bar. I need it in a couple of days so thought I would test it first. Saw how to do it on a youtube video and tried the same thing on mine today without success.

  Given our new location quite near to the ferries and tunnel for the channel it makes sense to consider touring the continent. It is not just selecting a vehicle that is capable of towing a small caravan but also a vehicle with a proven track record of towing and being reliable too. I am not keen on Land Rover or the usual SUV type vehicles and would prefer a suitable saloon. I am sure many forum members have relevant experience in this field.

  Hi, I am considering towing a caravan and I have been given some conflicting information regarding my gearbox. I have read that I might need to install and extra tranmission fluid cooler, but I cannot find too much info about this.

  In the USA they sell tow bar kits for the MK3   / 3.5 , so there must be provision   to fit a two bar. In the UK and EU they only sell tow bar kits for the Mazda MX5 Mk1 and MK2, as the MK 3   and   3.5   are not ‘type approved’ for towing in the UK and EU.
