  • Concern Over Brake Disc Quality 31 May 2008 (News)
Even the best selling Ford Focus uses the same size brake discs on the two-litre engine car as the 1,400cc family run-around. Mark Cornwall claims it is not just a BMW or Ford issue. He believes most car manufacturers are cutting corners on brakes. Cornwall continued to say “I believe car manufacturers are fitting “a one size fits all” where they think they can get away with it to keep the build costs down.

The ‘Joker’ was built exclusively for a UK limousine operator and is worth more than £150,000!
  • £20 Mondeo at Auction Today 24 Nov 2004 (News)
A 31k mile 02 reg Honda Civic 1.7 CDTi SE (another unbooked model) sold for a sensible £5,650. A run of the mill black and white 24k mile 2002/51 MINI Cooper with aircon was dearer than Monday’s 14k 52 reg at £9,550. A 19k mile 03 reg RenaultSport Clio 172 Cup with a CD player looked about right at £8,000.
  • Dear Again at Auction Today 22 Sep 2004 (News)
So not a very good day, but things are bound to improve as supply increases and demand slips away in the run up to Christmas. Maybe even tomorrow when the post Office will be disposing of 35 red vans at BCA’s Thursday LCV sale. As always the best way to look for a specific car coming up at auction or to pre-check a day’s sale is to visit
Some Cheap Classics at Auction Today 6 Oct 2003 (News)
A similarly barn found 1932 MG F1 Magna made a lot more sense at £7,200 because at least it was a six cylinder MG. But to my mind the buys of the day were the more modern cars sold ready to run or to mothball until next Spring as the case may be. When I see a really nice, clean Heritage re-shelled 1963 MGB sell for £6,500 I start to wonder whether I should continue recommending Mazda MX5s instead.
  • Yaris For Less Than £3k at Auction Today 10 Sep 2003 (News)
So if you’re new to the game, keep your of Parkers or What Car price guides out of site, show a bit of restraint and don’t let enthusiasm run away with you. It’s going to be busy at Blackbushe on Friday with the usual mix of ex-fleet cars and dealer part exchanges. Upcoming is a BMW Group sale at 1.00pm on Monday 15th September.
  • V5s Alive at Auction Today 5 Feb 2003 (News)
That was a whole £1,250 less than the 113k mile 97R Jag XK8 which preceded it, but which did have the advantage of a new engine fitted exactly a year ago. A general shortage of part exchanges and de-fleetings in the run-up to March 03 plates and the first signs of Spring combined to push prices up high today. £8,000 was a lot for a 26k mile Y reg Alfa 147 1.6 TS base model. So was £12,300 for 2k mile 02 plate independently imported Peugeot 206CC (Just £13,499 brand new from trade Sales.)
  • More Variety at Auction Today 23 Sep 2002 (News)
It had a few dings and scratches here and there which is no sweat because it pulls the bidding price down and if you’re thinking long-term you’re going to acquire a bit of damage anyway. It was 2001Y, with 19,492 miles and, since an import runs to about £11,000, I figured trade book of £9,700 was way over the top. So would it come for maybe £7,750? Not a chance in hell. Bidding started £8k, turned into a battle of 25s at around £8,750 and the car eventually went to a guy who looked like a dealer for £8,925.
  • Day of Contrasts at Auction 28 Sep 2001 (News)
The result is quite a severe shortage of the used cars most in demand, and fleet disposal managers have now caught on to this. But, of course, everything has its flip side and oversupplied run-of-the-mill machinery is rock-bottom. It's one thing to note a new low, like a 104,000 mile 97P Rover 200 1.4i 5-door bid to just £1,700. Not cheap if it needs a new clutch, timing belt and cylinder head.

  • Classic concept cars celebrated at British Motor Museum exhibition 29 Jul 2019 (News)
.  And if you thought electric cars were a modern invention, think again. This 1897 Bersey Electrical Cab was powered by a new-fangled electric engine - more efficient to run than a horse, and also quieter than a noisy internal combustion engine. • 1963 Peel P50 makes £49,500 at Brightwells Classic Car Auction 22 Jul 2018 (News)
. And £20,900 was an excellent result for a 1955 TF on offer that had been fitted with an MGB engine and running gear in the 1960s. The 1949 Bristol 400 was one of only around 420 made and just needing minor jobs to finish an otherwise high quality restoration. It fetched £57,200.
  • What kind of licence do I need to ride a scooter? 9 Apr 2018 (News)
If you have a full car licence (category B) then you are entitled to ride motor tricycles with a power output of greater than 15kW if you are over the age of 21. That opens up quite a wide range of options for motorists who want the benefits of low running costs and traffic busting capability without undergoing training or taking a test. There is a wide variety of three-wheeled scooters on sale – but check your licence and check with the manufacturer before buying, just in case.

  • MoT exemption for 30 year old vehicles 24 Oct 2014 (News)
A consultation process currently under way to gauge opinion over proposed changes to Britain’s MoT regulations is almost at an end – and the eventual result could affect anybody running a car, motorcycle or commercial vehicle over thirty years old. If the UK falls in line with EU proposals, such vehicles could be exempt from undergoing annual MoT testing. You can thank the European Union’s Directive 2014/45/EU for the rules and regulations relating to  roadworthiness  testing within each member state, although Britain has traditionally gone further in its testing regulations than many other European countries.
