Jaguar XF 08 premium luxury - Mechanical failure 23 Apr 2012 (Forum)
As I started the car to drive to work I experienced a loss of power, I pulled over and called the AA. The car was towed to a jaguar dealership. I have been informed that the car has suffered a mechanical failure and needs a new engine. They are unsure of the fault but it would be very time consuming ( read expensive) to find out and the money should be spent on a new engine. -
Volkswagen Sharan (1995 - 2009) - Sticking turbo 29 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Twice last year and once last weekend the turbo stopped working. It had an oil change between the incidents btw. This weekend I towed a caravan for the first time ever when it did it. Can I assume that burnt carbon deposits are lodging in the bearings? Would an oil change and using flushing oil help? Should I go mad and change with a fully synthetic oil? -
Ford Galaxy - Gender specific traits 24 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Doh indeed. we both got mobile phones, i would have been able to diagnose over the phone, i would then have went & rescued/towed her home. So is this a gender specific deficiency? -
Hyundai Coupe (2002 - 2008) - 07 2l mysterious box-Am I being paranoid? 2 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Was under my Hyundai Coupe yesterday spraying Waxoyl on rusty tow bar and suspension and exhaust bolts. Noticed a pressed steel box attached to the underside of the spare wheel well. Roughly 6" x 4 x 5" IIRC. Undersealed as per the car floor Got four pressed drainage holes in it and a cable tie dangling. -
Immobilisers, do they work? 13 Dec 2008 (Forum)
t know to begin, but it made me think 'is it possible?? Obviously any car can be stolen just by means of a lift, or a suspended tow, or even, given enough time by replacing components. Are immobilisers secure, do any BR's know of the theft of an immobilised car, are aftermarket security devices worth having, if so which ones? -
Trailer questions (switch, payload, number plate). 22 Nov 2007 (Forum)
It's got "Manual", "Auto", "Sensor off" positions. What are these for? How can I find out, or estimate, the payload? The bit which clips over the tow ball has "AT 750Kg" on it, and "S 75Kg" - are these maximum for the component? I find it hard to believe that the trailer is OK for 750Kg, and can't find another plate on it. Do I need a car-type number plate, or can I make up a decent DIY one and be road-legal? -
'02 Focus Zetec 1.8tdci - Immobiliser 6 Aug 2007 (Forum)
When going to start the motor, after waiting for all the usual lights to go out, the car did not start . . . it seemed to want to but didn't - just a slight noise. After thinking it was the battery, I tried to jump start it, and that failed. therefore got towed back to the house. My mate belives the code has fallen off the key, how do you reset this? can it be done manually or do I need to get someone out to have a look at it? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated -
Expensive rain 19 Jun 2007 (Forum)
He told me he's got three cars booked in this week with suspected hydraulic damage from ingesting water over the last few days. One is a Mondeo TDCi towed in off the motorway and they already know that the head has cracked! One is a BMW 320D - don't know for sure what's wrong with it yet but it drove through a deep puddle, cut out, and now its dead! -
Break down cover 12 May 2007 (Forum)
One other theory I have is that by not having cover has saved me 16 annual subscriptions so if they charge £800 to tow me home I'm still in pocket. The car will be changed when it become troublesome (baring premium bond jackpots!) Any suggestions gratefully received. -
Peugeot 106 - occasional starting prob 14 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Althought HT leads etc have been changed, no real solution has been forthcoming, the usual response being that there is no fault to find when the car is driven into the garage after it has atarted! It has now packed up completely but needs a tow away for diagnosis. Before more of her hard earned cash is burned does anyone have any ideas? -
New AA advert 20 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Can't just a few of them turn up wearing rocket packs like the RAC? Not a tool box in sight. No patrol van to charge a dead battery or tow the car away. What does it all mean? Hawkeye --------------------------------- Bewildered in a strange land -
Cycle Carriers - Any Recommendations 30 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Thinking about buying a new cycle carrier, anyone got any recommendations on type? What are the roof mounted ones like? I drive a 3 door Corsa B with tailgate spoiler and no tow bar. Got our old one which fits to the rear of the vehicle, not used it for sometime but from what I remember its held in place by two straps which run over the top and under the bottom of the rear door, but I dont think it would be wise to use given I have a tailgate spoiler - think the weight on the straps would break the spoiler as its only plastic. -
'96 Fiesta diesel fuel pump 21 Jan 2004 (Forum)
(almost did with lots of WD40 sprayed on it) My friendly mechanic says that it is most likely the fuel pump and says it will need to get to a Ford dealer to repair. Is this the only way to get it fixed as I hate to think how much it will cost together with towing it 20 miles! He also says to get a diagnostic man out to check it first but can that be done if the engine won't start? -
'Fire Risk..' 24 Dec 2003 (Forum)
But when a traffic warden spotted that two windows had been left half-an-inch open, that was reason enough to have it deemed a fire risk.(Open windows, it transpires, allow children to drop matches inside.) After 24 hours, police towed the car away and had it crushed. They said that they had tried to contact Mr Bugg at his registered address in Kent.' What would Back Roomers' reaction be to this happening to their car? P. -
Passat flood damage. 18 Dec 2003 (Forum)
A friends 1999 Passat became disabled in flood (river) water, they were fortunately able to exit the vehicle via the (still working) electric windows, and then wade to safety. The vehicle was recovered several hours later and towed to a garage, where it remained for 10 days pending assessment by the insurance company. After inspection the assessor was of the opinion that a days work was all that was necessary to put it back as was. -
Vauxhall Omega 1998R 3.0ltr MV6 estate 10 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Miata.net shows me that my speedo will over read a little so thats fine and already I notice the handling is improved on bends etc. Since I tow a caravan with this car, is there likely to be any effect there. Can anyone help with these two questions? -
Accidents and AA / RAC cover 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
A friend at work says the only reason he gets cover is for this eventuality, but another friend says that she had to pay for towing and storage costs after an accident. I'd always assumed they would recover the car as they always bandy words like recovery and rescue around, but thinking about it, the service they sell is *Breakdown* recovery. -
Whats possibly gone wrong 18 Dec 2002 (Forum)
On sunday morning while trying to reverse the car stalled and jammed the gears and wont even start. The Garage come over, unjammed it and towed it. Later on they called and said it needed an engine overhaul coz of some conrod bearing or whatever. The car is now has a noise in the engine block "knok knok" which gets worse on acceralation. I need an opinion on whats gone wrong and if its related to the initial fix problem. -
Wobbling 25 Jun 2002 (Forum)
The car wobbles slightly under acceleration but between 40 and 50mph it shakes, quite violently at times. The pedals and gear lever wobble about. When getting towed due to the state of the nearside CV joints after a long journey, the AA patrol suggested worn engine mountings and told me not to worry. Any ideas? Do I worry?
