  Barn Find Boosts Barons Classic Jaguar Auction Entry List 10 Jun 2009 (News)
  Estimate: £63,000-68,000. An S1, 4.2 Roadster, with special order Golden Sand livery, was supplied to Jaguar Cars, New York in 1965. It has undergone a comprehensive restoration by The Carrosserie Car Company and was recently valued for insurance purposes by the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club at £63,000 and described as a 'numbers matching car of the highest quality'.

  After three months of price rises that saw one junior supercar go up in the books £6,000 last month then £2,000 this month, and month on month rises of £600 even for average cars, the market might have got to the point where it can’t take any more. When prices are falling, more cars are knocked down. When prices seem to be rising, fleets won’t take low bids, but can get trapped into an unreasonably high expectation of what their cars will fetch.

    The shape and size of the used market for LCVs is already undergoing change, with a dearth of late-plate stock and even shortages of typical three-to-five year old fleet & lease vehicles.   This situation is likely to remain until volumes of new sales increase and ‘freshen’ the used stock supplies. The report includes data from the ‘Fleeteye’ survey - conducted by the Buckingham Centre for Automotive Management - which suggest LCV fleets remain hugely cost-sensitive, but are increasingly concerned about how environmental issues will affect them in the longer term.

Despite a very leggy 108,000 miles a three year old 99T MB C220 CDI Classic with a/c but no history sold for a sensible £7,550. £6,825 was far from crazy money for a clean 30,000 mile 99T Golf IV 1.6S five door with a/c. A 60,000 mile 99R BMW E46 328i in silver sold for £12,000.

  A very clean but 1999V and 94k miles Rover 75 2.0 Connoisseur auto made a strong £1,650. And even an undistinguished 10k mile 4 year old Suzuki Alto, original price £5,000, was £1,750.   Sure-Sell private sellers are telling me they are getting their cheques in a little as 3 days, too, without having to waste money on advertising and time fending off endless numbers of canvassers. Crucially, Group 1 insurance made this a decent first car for a 17 year old, though I’m not sure how many young lads would take to the Amethyst paint job. VWs were pricy too, today. But Hondas weren’t. A 96k mile 03 Accord 2.0SE sold for a sensible £4,100.
