  • Renault Laguna (1994 - 2001) - 97 Heater Matrix 3 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I have coolant leaking from somewhere under the dash and it is obvious from the smell and misting windscreen etc, that the matrix is leaking. My question is,how big a job is it to replace? I am competant but if this is a " dash out job "I wont bother. The car is a Laguna RXE 1997. Oh yes,I dont know if it is connected, but I think the A/C has lost it's gas as it will not cool even though the compressor, etc is fine.
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - '06 2.0 petrol ~ Water trickle on carpet 4 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Its running towards the drivers footwell area, down by the brake pedal. I suspect the heater matrix, but as the car is only 1 year old (10k) i would find that surprising. There are no leaves blocking the drains below the windscreen and the drain holes are clear. Any ideas what its likely to be please?
  • Gravel lorries 12 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The issue is , when they are loaded ( usually badly , i.e unevenly with a hump of gravel right in the middle - the load should be evened out ) and driving UNCOVERED , our cars are in grave danger . All kinds of shrapnel flies off them at speed - a windscreen on a following vehicle cracks at 60 mph and anything happens .... What galls me is that these lorries are now fitted with ' boom ' style covers , all the driver has to do is swing over a large arm and the tarpaulin secures the load ?
  • Swinging door 11 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Following my cousin from the crematorium to the wake through the far north-western fringes of the great Wen this afternoon - it was snowing a bit too - we came up behind a box-bodied seven tonner (I think) whose offside rear door was open and swinging wide following acceleration on left-hand bends. It was low enough, and certainly heavy enough, to damage the windscreen of a car coming the other way, and several such vehicles flinched visibly... At the second attempt, at a traffic light, my good cousin managed to leap out and attract the driver's attention. He came back, looking aghast, and secured the door.
  • mondeo rattles please help 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
i purchased a 2002 mondeo 1.8 lx 6 weeks ago. everything was great to start with but now i've got an annoying rattle coming from the dashboard, it seems to happen when the car gets warm . i know its something thats lose because it only happens when going over bumps and seems to be coming from the vent just under the windscreen. i also have a clicking noise coming from the area just under the tax disc, i thought this was a lose bit of trim but i've managed to stick this bit of trim back in place but it's still happening. has anyone else experienced this with a mondeo and can anyone help before i rip the dashboard out.
  • Cold but dry in Manchester this morning 25 Nov 2005 (Forum)
It is no more than zero out there, but there is no frost - great. So why did the idiot in a Clio try to wash his windscreen with his washers and wipers? He could not see as his car was not warm enought to thaw the slushy icy goo on his screen as he drove along, so he drove down the A56 looking out of a one inch patch of clear screen, weaving all over the road and generally being a danger to other traffic.
  • Warranty rip off 23 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My wife has an 03 Clio which has a manufacturer/dealer warranty valid until March 06. As the windscreen washers have packed up I told her to just book it in to the local dealer - "i'm sure it will be covered under warranty". Not having owned a car with warranty that has needed work, she casually checked that there would be no costs incurred for the work.
  • A battery of mice 10 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I opened the bonnet of my Omega this morning in order to top up the windscreen washer. I could hardly believe my eyes. The battery has a padded cover - rather like an immersion heater - and something had pulled away the cover exposing a white filling which was covered in peanuts and bits of stale bread.
  • South Africa road crash yesterday 5 Jan 2004 (Forum)
There seems to be no frontal damage at all, and the doors and side windows are intact. Only things to note are that the windscreen is missing and the roof as been raised a bit (could have happened in the recovery). But it doesn't look to me like a bus that has been rolled at high speed. I've seen picture of crashed cars that look 3 times worse than this bus, and everyone walked away with just a few scratches.
  • Autoglass 29 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I recently had a new windscreen fitted to my car. £50 from myself the rest I thought was to be met by my insurance. I got a verbal quote for the work of £170, when the work was completed they left a recipt saying £288. My insurance company have refused to pay up (Im not covered, my fault) and I have just recieved a bill from autoglass for over £400 for the same work as knocked back by my insurance company.
  • Toyota Auris 1.33 - Toyota Auris front bumper/wing gap 29 Jul 2015 (Forum)
I am considering buying a 2010 Auris which appears to have a good service history. However the front bumper  spoiler moulding is slightly loose from the front wings. It has a little bit of play in it. There are pictures on the attached link and you may see an extended gap.  http://www.partexchangesdirect.co.uk/used-cars/toyota-auris-1-33-vvt-i-tr-5dr-st-albans-201504042331652 Is this a familar problem?
  • Missing numberplate scam 1 Jan 2007 (Forum)
One of my neighbours regularly runs his cars with no front numberplate. At first I thought it had just dropped off but then noticed that other cars he drives also have missing front plates. I've never asked him but the only thing I can think of is that he removes them to prevent being caught on camera from the front.
  • Audi Q2 - a year and a bit 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
(The short-term trip recorder is accurate, so presumably the long-term one is as well.) Things worth having: Lumbar support; heated front seats (for SWMBO); power tailgate (well worth having, not least so that you can open it remotely and find the car in a car park); rear view camera; automatic high-beam assist; space-saver spare wheel; auto hill hold; and auto-dimming rear-view mirror (the last two shouldn't have been extras).
  • Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 99 2.0 HDI front suspension ride height problem 23 Jan 2009 (Forum)
If i select Max height - the car will rise to the full height If i select Min height - the car will fall to the lowest level. The rear suspension moves back to the normal ride height when i select it, but the front won't go. IF I am at Max the front will stay at Max, if I am Min, the front will stay at Max The LHM level (from what I can tell) is high - at the Max height the indicator is above the higher of the two red rings.
  • Letter from Lagos 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Camne back to Harcourt the next morning, saw 3 accidents on the way ? a truck off the road and wedged axle deep in the swamp; a car which had gone off the road and the driver through the windscreen, and a truck full of wood which had overturned. Great stuff! More later in the week.
  • VW Golf Match Edition - Resprayed panel 20 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Bought a second hand VW Golf during lockdown and once it was delivered noticed that there was paint over rubber seals and on black plastic in the wheel arch. We paid a lot for the car and it is nearly new (~4k miles on the clock). I'm wondering how concerned I should be? I also found glass in the side door pocket.. clearly glass from a window or windscreen. I was told of no issues with the car.
  • In-Car Cameras & Insurance Policies 18 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, A question I'm curious to find the answer to. I'll be upgrading the runabout next year and I'm seriously tempted to fit a car-cam in the windscreen. I'm wondering how this works with the insurance bods though. Obvisouly such a device is of significant benefit to them in the event of any claim, but presumably they still consider such fitments as a modification to the vehicle?
  • Jaguar XF - Road sign hit my car - who do I claim against 14 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I was travelling northbound on the M42 this morning in the outside lane and as I was approaching junction 10 a 50 mile an hour speed limit sign was blown off it's stand and came towards me. At first I thought the sign was going to come through my windscreen but luckily it 'only' hit the side of my car causing minor damage to the driver and rear passenger door. The 50 speed sign was being used for southbound traffic and was on a metal frame. It is atemporary type of sign used in roadworks.
  • HPI History Ect 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)

  • Golf 2 ECU Probs? 14 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Having had to change the ECU on the car approx 6months ago, it's showing the same symptoms once again. On attempting to start the car from cold, it is turning over a number of times before eventually struggling to start. Then once started, it will struggle once or twice before running as normal, ticking over fine.
