  • Dramatic finish for inaugural Blue Train Challenge 28 Sep 2017 (News)
Leaving Richard and Tom Jeffcoate to take the win in the 1938 Riley 16/4 Special. Inspired by the legendary run by the Bentley of Wolf Barnato from Cannes to London in March 1930, the Blue Train Challenge set off from Deauville with James Gately and Tony Brooks driving into the lead in their 1937 Cadillac Convertible.    As the event (organised by the Endurance Rally Association) journeyed 1690kms through Fountevraud, Vichy, Lyon, and L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, with crews and cars competing in a series of regularity sections, special tests, and time controls, Gately and Brooks kept the rest of the field at arm’s length until mechanical failure hit at the final regularity just before the finish line.
  • A Grand Monday: Ford Orion 1.3 25 Sep 2017 (News)
Indeed, this example could be truly unique - a car that is mere steps away from becoming an automotive dodo. Despite a production run of more than three million cars, there are fewer than 500 Orions currently taxed in the UK. Of those, none are the entry-level four-speed 1.3L. Admittedly, it takes a special kind of commitment to actively seek out a miserable base model, which was so basic that it didn't even come with wheeltrims as standard, and persisted with four gear ratios in an era where a five-speed gearbox brought with it bragging rights.
  • A Grand Monday: Nissan Sunny 11 Sep 2017 (News)
.  It also had clockwork reliability, which meant that many Sunnys disappeared as a result of chronic neglect, run into the ground as taxis and takeaway delivery vehicles - a far cry from the genteel suburban driveways in which most of them began their lives. This example , then, is a rarity.
  • A Grand Monday: Citroen GSA 14 Aug 2017 (News)
There are just 37 GSAs taxed and on the road , so what has been accomplished here is nothing short of remarkable. A run of the moulin hatchback from the early 1980s (albeit a quirky and quite entertaining one) has been exhumed from what, by rights, should have been its final resting place, and has been brought back from the dead.  That's an incredible feat.
  • A Grand Monday : Volkwagen Golf Cabriolet Pink Floyd 7 Aug 2017 (News)
.  Our only major concern is the lack of an MoT. Mk 3 Golfs can rust, and if the floor and sills are a bit crusty then we'd suggest you Run Like Hell, but if it's solid and gets through a test, then it should make The Final Cut. If so, then Shine On, You Crazy Diamond.  You'll have to get there before The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, though, as we don't think it'll be there for a huge amount of Time...

  • Brian May’s Jowett Javelin heads to auction 28 Jun 2017 (News)
The specification of this particular model is rare in that it’s engine is fitted with triple carburrettor, which was only used for one year of the production run. It could fetch between £65,000 and £85,000. E-type Jaguars have an enormous following, and Barons has two Series 2 FHC versions in its catalogue.
  • A Grand Monday: Lada 1200 19 Jun 2017 (News)
The humble Lada kept comedians from Blackpool to Benidorm in cheap jokes for most of the 1980s, but today the jokes are over. The built-to-a-budget, run it until it drops nature of the Russian runabout means that the vast majority of those built were unceremoniously scrapped as soon as repairs became uneconomically viable, while the disappearance of Lada (and its parts network) from the UK in 1996 meant it was difficult to keep one on the road.
  • Competition-inspired Mercedes 300SLS heads to auction 24 May 2017 (News)
His car was recognised as one of the most reliable on the track, consistently performing well even in the harshest of driving conditions. His run ended when Mercedes-Benz faced funding issues and had to withdraw from American racing. Thirty years later, enthusiast Georg Distler decided to reignite the legend of the SLS. His aim was simple – to create his own version of the SLS and compete in one of the world’s toughest rallies, the Carrera Panamericana, a dangerous 3500km border-to-border race.
  • Downton-tuned Cooper heads to auction 23 May 2017 (News)
Even the carpets are of the original type and not synthetic replacements. The car has only completed 70 miles since the rebuild so will need to be carefully run-in by the new owner. The original Downton ‘Touring’ conversion from 1966 provided an increase over the standard car’s performance. This example features twin SU carbs together with the Downton modified cylinder head, a polished and matched inlet manifold, and a specially designed three-branch exhaust manifold, plus matching exhaust system.
  • One-owner Ford Granada heads to auction 13 Feb 2017 (News)
This car was purchased as a restoration project in the mid-1970s, but very little work was carried out before it was put into dry storage, where it has remained untouched for around 40 years. The engine has been started every so often, and it is said to start and run well. There's plenty of pre-sale interest in this 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL restoration project.

  • October 2016 recall round up: Thousands of Jeep models called back over three different problems 2 Nov 2016 (News)
The biggest recall is for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, with 4621 affected models made from early 2013 to late 2015. The recall remarks that the vehicle may roll away if the engine is left running - a fault that may be linked to the death of Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin in June 2016. He was found pinned between his Jeep and a brick pillar at his home, after the car apparently rolled back.
  • Classics from the 1926 British GP on show at Windsor concours 18 May 2016 (News)
The event will also be gathering ten of the most revolutionary British cars from the Queen’s life – one from each decade. Running from the Bentley 3 Litre of the 1920s, through the Land Rover Series I, the Mini and the McLaren F1 - the feature will showcase Britain’s pivotal role in the motor industry. At the event’s heart, though, will be 60 of the world’s most exclusive cars.

  • New lease of life for Dad’s Army van 5 Feb 2016 (News)
A group of Dagenham-based Ford apprentices worked with the company’s heritage vehicle technicians to repair the running gear of Jack Jones’s famous van - in the same building that it would have left the plant from more than 80 years ago. The original Dad’s Army television series ran from 1968 to 1977, and BUC 852 made its screen debut on 11 September, 1969, in the first colour episode.
  • Derek Bell delights crowds at Classic Nostalgia event 29 Jul 2015 (News)
Derek said, ‘It was like a lovely english festival, the atmosphere was fantastic, the cows were looking over the fence, people watching the racing and the dancing in The Courtyard, just lovely.’ Derek drove the Porsche 956 twice during the day and after his second run asked for another go. ‘I am like a kid in a candy store here today, being allowed to drive a selection of cars from over my career, with their current owners taking such a pride and pleasure in seeing their iconic cars in action.’ He also drove the Jaguar XJ12C, which was brought to the event by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust and formed part of the Jaguar celebrations.
