  • One less reason to be upset... 18 Mar 2004 (Forum)
That VW transporter illuded me a few weeks ago but never mind... The Trafic only cost a total of £133 for its MOT (including the fee). Not bad for a van that cost £750 Christmas 2002 Problems were: Rear brakes - Compensator needed adjusting Rear bumper sharp edges - tidied up and sharp edges now covered neatly.
  • Parking clearance.. - In our road 19 Aug 2016 (Forum)
the close is shaped like a T and off one of the arms are the garages, and all but 2 houses have driveways, now on the arm where I live the 3 people  who live in another street have not till recently used their access to their rear gardens where they have parking spaces. now they do, one of the people without a driveway has been forced to remove 2 of his 3 vehicles (the third is a long wheelbase van) which he can park in front of his house on a bit of the road without white lines in front of the dropped kerbs. Now that he cannot park in front of one of the other entrances he has to find a spot for the van so happily for all of us his 2 cars, one of which was untaxed and uninsured (it had an mot so the council would not remove it) and the other has also been removed so finally the parking situation has cleared, thanks to the people in another street wanting access, and none of us having to approach him to "politely remove his heaps of scrap" Lovely!

  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.4 TDCI engine - smell of fumes entering car 22 Jan 2010 (Forum)
My dad has a 2004 Fiesta van 1.4 TDCI which has covered around 45K miles. It is regularly serviced and passed its MOT recently. He is complaining of fumes entering the cabin through the vents constantly, even when he is not following another vehicle.
  • Self drive car transporter - help! 25 Apr 2003 (Forum)
So, does anyone know a company that could rent me a car transporter, whether a van or a trailer, ideally one that I could pick up in the London area.
  • KANGOO DIESEL SL19dCi 70 Van - Kangoo Cambelt 13 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Started fine and above 1500rpm absolutely no loss of power or smoke. I drove it in this condition to a local garage for an MOT and for the engine issue to be looked into. An hour after dropping it off I had a call to say my van wouldn't start when they tried to drive it into the repair bay and on taking off the cam belt cover found the timing belt to be very slack.
  • Citroen Relay 2013 - Breaks and Front Suspension arm pin repair cost 6 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Hello all, My van has failed MOT today and they quote me £1460 for repair, which seems steep after checking cost of parts online. As long as I could probably deal with break pads myself, I'm not attempting to fix suspension issues.
  • Help! Unknowingly Sold a car that was previously written off 30 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I recently sold my Berlingo van, in a private sale and the buyer paid in cash, which came with an 11 month mot (with 2 minor advisories) I also provided all receipts of all work I had done to the vehicle whilst in my possession. The buyer has recently contacted me stating that the vehicle had been written off whilst in my care, which is not true, not even been in an accident with it.

  • Ford Transit Connect - Found a van, but should I worry about advisories? 23 Feb 2022 (Forum)
It drove fine, but there was a bit of smoke coming out of the exhaust - he said it hadn't been driven in a while so it could be that combined with a cold morning (it was 7am). MOT advisories are a few - wondering if these are serious or easily fixed? Any advice very welcome and appreciated - it's not an expensive van so I'm willing to fix a few things, but don't want to be landed with an enormous bill.
  • Vauxhall Movano - Brake Failure - Whos Liability? 6 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I can source parts for £109 so do not think this is 'trade price'.  Was told it was either that or I could have my money back as they could easily sell the van. An independent garage tells me he would expect the minimum pad amount for MOT of 1.5mm to last at least 3000-4000 miles and that they would not hesitate to fix a problem like this after just one week.
  • Insurance, tax and SORN question 20 Feb 2012 (Forum)
A member of  my staff purchased a vehicle from an auction.  The vehicle he collected had no taxed but did have a valid MOT in date, he drove the vehicle back 3rd party through his own insurance. His insurance is also valid for 3rd party on other vehicles (for example, when his van goes in for any work, he borrows one of the other vehicles and has 3rd party cover on it).
  • Ford Transit - Warranty advice wanted 20 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I purchased a van from a fleet hire company, a van that had been leased out but was now at the end of it's lease period, and became available for sale. When I agreed to purchase it, I asked the salesman about a warranty, and he told me that a 12 month warranty was available at a cost of £200, but said "you won't need it.

  • VOLKSWAGEN TRANSPORTER SWB MOTOR CARAVAN 1968cc - intermittent over-revving 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I have had the van since new. It is our only vehicle and has only done 52k miles. It always starts first time, and no cutting out until I switch off. But intermittently I wll drive up to the main road and whilst waiting there the revs will bre revving as though starting in a grand prix.
  • escort 1.4. Tickover too high? 2 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Good evening fellow petrolheads, Have just bought a 51 Escort van with LPG conversion and it goes very well and cheaply. It is a bit slow to return to tickover when on overrun but settles to about 800rpm which seems a bit high. At its recent MOT the mechanic suggested marking the idle speed control valve then taking out its retaining bolts and rotating the valve a touch to reduce the revs.
  • Renault Trafic Rimini - 1996 Renault Trafic Camper Buying Advice 17 Apr 2021 (Forum)
    - It has passed every MOT since 2013 however I wouldn't trust the last one 100% as it's in a small dealership. - It has 12 months MOT - Inside has been quite well kept and it does seem like it had a careful owner previous to the dealership.
  • fabia engine warning - oil overfill 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I rang the AA and asked them and they sent a van, his computer wouldn't talk to it for whatever reason but he said it was overfilled with oil and so didn't want me to drive it, but didn't know if this was the problem. I got a tow back which is a another story.
