Dicky VRM plate - you have been warned - Dwight Van Driver
In addition to the re-instatement of MOT inspection in relation to VRM's that do not conform there is more:

Thought some of you might be interested in this which I spotted in current edition of Police Review, the official journal of BritPol.

Agreed by NPIA, ACPO, DVLA and ANPR, a new system started last week where if Plod pulls you for a 'dicky' number plate they will send a photo of the plate with a short form to DVLA.

The driver of the offending vehicle has 28 days to fix the defect and send a photo to DVLA to prove it has been done.

Those that do not comply will have their VRM revoked by DVLA and details fed onto ANPR intelligence.

Good. About time.

That will be the same DVLA that has made millions of pounds selling plates to the public with past advertising campaigns along the lines of this will spell something , nudge, nudge, wink , wink.

I may well be missing the point, but why can't you send a photo of a non-dickyplate and then put the dicky one back on the car?

Same as owners of 'Prat Plates' do for the MOT!

How I hope that's what everyone does. I love weird number plates on other people's cars.

It would have made much more sense to make the offenders attend their local VOSA station for a visual inspection by a VOSA employee, and charge them £s for it.

The hassle factor (time off work, make the appt., etc would be enough to put people off repeating it. As it is there's no real sanction - just Blu-tac the correct plate in place, snap it, and remove it. total waste of time.

I thought that at one time there was a '3 strikes and out' confiscation rule in place for misrepresented numbers. The DVLA site now only makes reference to ' Offenders are liable to a MAXIMUM FINE of £1,000 and in some cases the mark may be withdrawn'

Now that would be a nice little earner for the DVLA - crackdown and confiscate the valuable plates and then resell..........

There is still in force a 3 strikes, for the same type of offence, and you are in jail for a very long time introduced by Jack Straw but it has never actually been applied SFAIK

For once I agree with you 100%. Hypocrisy of the highest order, and another step on the road to enforced conformity.

Had the following conversation with a traffic officer a few years ago;

Plod: Speed cameras cannot read undersized number plates properly, sir, that's why they all have to be "X" size.

HM; I've got three points on my licence that says you're wrong!

I've read through this thread wondering what a VRM plate is - I think it must be what we lesser mortals call a numberplate (Vehicle Registration Mark, presumably?).

There are too many TLAs (three-letter acronyms) around aren't there, representing unnecessary long expressions - like calling a tealady an Intinerant Catering Operative and shortening it to ICO. The worst one I've seen is the council (sorry, LEA) that calls a child an Age-Weighted Pupil Unit, or AWPU. That's a four-letter acronym, but 'child' is onlt only leter more.

Agree would be much easier surely to introduce 3 strikes?

On the third, you lose the plate (whether its one you bought or not) and you need to pay to re-register your car and cannot use it meantime?

It's just another motorist bashing exercise isn't it?. Personally i couldn't give a monkey's what my VRM reads, but why can't we follow the Kiwi's and allow anything (within obvious reason) on our plates. if you want to put "bonkers" or "richest" on your plate, so what? if it's registered to you and your car, and readable, who cares?. Find something better to worry about. (and spend taxpayers money on)

So what I envisage are politicians plates with "fiddler" "expenses" "swimpool" "2ndhome"

Thats all ways been my viewpoint. I'd remember a car rushing away in the distance by it's plate ' LOONEY ' far easier than say AT07BCV. I'm sure that would go for a lot of others.

Taxpayers money isn't being spent at all. The charge for the plates (which are only on loan and do not become one's property) plus the transfer charges and admin fees actually make a great deal of money for Grasping Gordon!
Dicky VRM plate - you have been warned - Peter D
DVLA will inform ANPR and your plate will be tagged and when detected checked for comformity, if it still indicates a dodgy plate you will get pulled and risk having the plate withdrawn by DVLA at your expense. Regards Peter

Why mess around, seize the car and crush it. One less BarryBoy to deal with.

Real private plates like a TCH1 and such I don't mind but all this self deluding junk that people think are private...
