  • When to go through Red Traffic Lights? 9 May 2011 (Forum)
My question is that for the police to instruct you to go through a red traffic lights can they do it from inside their car or do they have to come to you and instruct you to move?  Do you have to take their badge number or car reg number in case you are caught on the camera and have to attend court? Personally i will move to let them pass when i know if there is no red light camera. What are your opinions?
  • Speed Camera Thread - Volume 50 [Read Only] 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hello Not been on for a while, but was prompted to by something that's been bugging me the last few weeks, having been working away and driving a long commute Mondays and Fridays. What is it that lorry drivers don't understand about 50mph average speed cameras on roadworks? I have now lost count of the number of times I have seen aggressive driving from them because someone is, er, going at 50mph in front of them through these roadworks and there are LOADS of them at the moment: on my journey: M6, M42, M40, A404, M4... is it because they can't just keep their pedal to the metal at 56 or whatever they are restricted to?
  • The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 21 2 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Here is a guy that gets zapped 3 times for speeding in 14 months. The first being 68 in a 50 limit (roadworks?) on the A.1. Come on we all know that there are cameras amongst all the signs. To do that speed even at night is really chancing his arm. The other two are marginal 40 in a 30 and 37 in a 30. But again he puts forward the hoary that he doesn't know what speed he is doing and has to clock his speedometer all the time.
  • Police Presence 17 Aug 2001 (Forum)
There has been much discussion about the vast increase in the use of cameras, and other devices, to, supposedly, reduce vehicle speeds in controlled areas. and, it would appear that this vast expenditure is mainly aimed at increasing revenue for the various police forces who use them.

  • Violence from motor bikers. 17 Dec 2020 (Forum)
This frequently manifests itself by the biker striking the car by punching or kicking. It seems to me that the frequency of cameras worn by bikers gives them carte blanche to threaten or attack motorists, secure in the misplaced knowledge that " I've got you on camera " ! Worse yet is when bikers, in groups, then surround the motorist in a very threatening manner ; this is truly terrifying.

  • Cruising at a specific speed - on the motorway 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I find I have no trouble at all at cruising at a specified speed. Strangely, nor do other drivers when average speed cameras are around. It does not require me to stare at my speedo the entire time. Traffic flows extremely well in 50mph average speed zones. I suggest average speed cameras for the entirety of our network.
  • Beige box mystery 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hope I haven't done the wrong thing here, DD, but I didn't want this to get lost in the speed camera thread - it's a bit of a specific request. Saturday's Telegraph has just penetrated this part of SW France and Honest John has a letter from a guy who has spotted a lot of beige coloured plastic boxes mounted a couple of feet above the ground beside French autoroutes and he thinks they are speed cameras.
  • New slant on road safety 18 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I am a bit surprised to find none of the many knowledgeable contributers to this site has seen fit to comment on the proposed change of emphasis to speed camera fines. My understanding from various reports is that in future money gathered from camera fines will be used to finance other types of safety gadgets, like flashing lights, yet more road signs etc.
  • speeding penalties 25 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi I am new here and really need some advice. I was going over the severn bridge last weekend and drove through a speed camera (police camera van on the bridge) I was doing about 80-85 in a new 50 zone and I have not had anything from dvla yet. I am really worried that I will be banned from this but cant find any details on penalties that are current on the web (not that great at searching to be honest!)
  • Expenditure on the A1(M) Yorkshire 27 Oct 2004 (Forum)
All well and good but there are a heck of a lot of matrix signs now erected, with induction loops in the tarmac, but also now columns are being installed for cameras as well. Traffic flow monitoring cameras I hope, but I question why this is all necessary. It's never that busy, not even on bank holidays. It slows down a bit around Wetherby on a Friday night, but that will be taken care of when the new section opens.
