Non existent roadworks 18 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Just completed a rather nice M25/M11 run to Stansted. Between the Dartford Tunnel and J27 there were several sets of road works ahead signs but no sign of any work being done (thankfully). I don't know how long they've been there or when the roadworks were completed but I'd have thought it a relatively simple task to remove these as soon as the work was completed. -
Omega Piston number 1 19 Jul 2003 (Forum)
whilst 1 being just a little bit low, the engine ran like a dog and I changed it the new engine has 14, 16.5, 16.5, 16.5 So not as bad (and it runs fine) but still there is a noticeably similar pattern here. I am recon..ing the old engine so I won't really mind if the new one goes the same way as the old one -
Fiat Uno (1992) battery draining 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I took out the battery a week ago,let it fully charge. Refitted and needed to "jump" the car to get it going. Took it for a run and seemed fine. Stopped the car and started again no probs. Tried the next day and totally dead. Not even a "jump" got it going. Stereo "facia" already removed just in case.Anything I should check??? -
Bus lanes & humps for the chop ! 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Just heard a London news item stating that a bus lane controlled by Red Ken's mob and apparently causing chaos on Kew Bridge is to be removed and that another controlled by the London Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (I think) is also for the chop. The same news item also mentioned that Tory run Barnet is to remove ALL its roads humps because it says they don't work. I'm not sure I agree with all of the above but it'll be very interesting to see what happens and whether this is going to become a trend. -
VW Golf battery going flat 28 Mar 2003 (Forum)
After parking the car for 4 days there's only enough in the battery to turnover the engine for a fraction of a second. The car lives on a daily diet of two 14 mile, 1/2 hour runs a day. The battery voltage is 14.4V with the engine idling and 12.4 V with the engine off. The measured standby current drawn is 0.15 amps. Halfords won't give me a new battery as their battery tester says the battery is OK. -
95 escort 1.8td smoke problem 7 Mar 2003 (Forum)
This has probably been asked before but here goes, problem is when I start my car for the first time (morning) it runs great no smoke when driving throttle response is very good but when the engine gets to full operating temp I notice the throttle response is not as good and it starts to blow black smoke out on acceleration. -
LagunaII 1.9Dci Fuel injection fault 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
(Fault first occurred at 17,000 miles, now at 31,000 miles; fault usually occurs well into a journey, dealer has examined car with the engine running with the fault (- changed air valve)) I fear an intemittant electrical gremlin... -
minis 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
does anyone have any idea why my mini runs on when i turn the ignition off? it doesn't do it every time but it does puzzle me.also my battery (which is brand new) often goes flat, the alaernator has been rewound etc.. pumping out 14 volts but when i test the connection to the starter solenoid it only shows 12.3v which i think is not enough to charge the battery, aconnected problem i have is that my headflights are quite dim i have no comparison so it may just be mini lights if any on e can help with any of these problems i would be very grateful thanks -
Mondeo blue smoke ! 9 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I have been told this is due to the oil valve stems...?. Anybody have any ideas what else it could be, or if it is the stem seals. The engine seems to run fine. Any estimates on prices to get it sorted would be helpful........(not too expensive hopefully!) Thanks Ste. -
Any recommendations? 15 Jan 2003 (Forum)
and really do need to go for something that\'s ultra reliable as opposed to looks etc. Its not going to do huge mileage (9K ish year)and most of that will be school run/local stuff. Needs to be capable of taking 4 adults (sometimes 5), hatchback necessary due to dogs. With a budget of about £8,000 plus trade in (that makes it £8,001!!)I\'m thinking along the lines of Toyoya Avensis, Mazda 626 etc. -
Calling Ford Explorer Owners 6 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I'm thinking of buying a Ford Explorer and converting it to run on LPG. I know that I must ensure it's a multi-point injection system to illiminate possible backfires. What I want to know is people's experiences of the Explorer - Do you owners love it or loath it? -

Tyre side wall bubbles 2 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Recently had a slow puncture on a 225/45/17 Pirelli P6000, the tyre had lost some pressure but was not run flat. The puncture was situated in the middle of the tyre so i had a tyre repair in the form of a patch. On arriving to collect the tyre two side wall bubbles were present, the tyre was almost new say 3k from it. -
Primera - petrol fumes 19 Apr 2002 (Forum)
With a full tank there is no smell. I have checked for leaks and found nothing, with or without the engine running. I have noticed that there are two pipes under the bonnet apparently coming from the fuel tank, one enters the fuel filter and then carries on to the injector system - the other goes into a large canister and then connects directly into the inlet manifold under the injectors. -
Vectra Di air problems 3 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Poor starting led me to suspect air in the fuel, replaced a section of pipe with clear fuel line and added a rubber priming bulb for good measure. Also replaced the fuel filter housing. The problem persists and I can now see globs of air running to the fuel pump, even bigger ones when ever I squeeze the priming bulb. Am I correct in ruling out air leaks at the injector/leak off valve area due to direction of airflow if so what specifically needs checking up the way? -
Vectra DI engine management light 11 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I looked in the handbook which states something like' if the light temporarily shows then this is of no significance'. The car runs great and consistantly returns about 49 mpg. I am not concerned about this, but why does the light come on? Is the ecu making some adjustments? I have a tuning box fitted btw, which I guess could be to blame! -
Other-driver uncomfortableness 2 Mar 2002 (Forum)
My car has just been in for an auto-gearbox fix. Apart from the old arm-and-leg bill, it just doesn't feel *right*... It's running fine, no apparent problem, but ... This same phenomena occurs every time anybody else drives my car - be it brother, sister, mother, father, workmate, mechanic etc Despite often NOT having to adjust the seat/mirrors/steering wheel/etc, it just doesn't feel *right* ... -
Hidden benefits 20 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I have now owned my Audi for 9 months, and only this week have I discovered that it has heated wing mirrors. They run off the same switch as the heated rear window (which doesn't work terribly well, so I don't normally bother with it). I suppose I should have read the handbook when I bought the car - I wonder what other hidden toys it has? -
Peugeot 405 problem 14 Dec 2001 (Forum)
He tells me that on his drive to work in the morning, his 1.9 litre 405 Estate always loses power either momentarily or for a few yards at exactly the same spot, about 10 minutes into his journey. He refers to the problem as hunting. The car also runs on after the ignition has been switched off, but he thinks that this is just the timing and, therefore, unconnected. Any ideas? Thank you very much. Yours Andy -
Trailers and insurance 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Must they be 'disclosed'to your insurance co. or are they by virtue of being coupled classed as automatically underthe car insurance? I don't want to run any risks which might ultimately prove uninsured withthe potential for horrendous costs. Yes , the answer might lie in the policy doc. or by ringing my co, but would still like some hard facts.
