  • Whats the right car? 27 May 2011 (Forum)
I currently drive a ford mondeo ghia x 2.5 V6 and to be fair even though its lovely to drive it is murdering me on running costs. I am 22 so insurance is stupid, fuel prices are on the rise so you cant afford to have a heavy foot which is what fast fords are made for, and the government are tight fisted so road tax is stupid.
  • Toyota Aygo - Frist car confusion Aygo/107 yp or 207/fiesta type 18 May 2011 (Forum)
Hi,  passed my test a couple months ago,  about to hit 23 and looking for my first car. I was quite keen on the look of the aygo/107/c1 cars, cheap to run/inusre etc but even given that it seems expensive for what they are. For the same used price (4k) or even cheaper I buy something like a Peugot 207, previous generation fiestas ibizas and such. My main routes to work are either A-Roads for 25-30 minutes or motorway for about 20 minutes, depending on my chosen route so not completely convinced that such a small car would be the best idea, though anything would be better than my current bus journey :p.
  • BMW X5 - compensation 19 Apr 2011 (Forum)
We made payments on the finance agreement, we also traded in a freelander jeep as deposit. We had to buy a cheap run around for a year and for all the other time we have had to use taxis, over the 4 to 5 years that have passed we have had to due to family, school, childrens classes, work and university pay more money than i care to think about in taxis..roughly £150 pound a week.
  • bought a car off eBay, have I been a total spanner 14 Apr 2011 (Forum)
OK, I just bought a car off eBay, unseen. I thought, that's fine, it's paid for via Paypal and it it doesn't run then I have some protection. Well, guess what thhe car wasn't road worthy and the dealer wouldn't fix it or give me my money back. So, first thing I do is go to Paypal. Paypal says they can't do anything as I picked it up in person.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.25 - Unstable / wobbly engine or wheels? 13 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Hi Hoping someone here could help or give me any pointers. I have a Fiesta 1.25 zetec V reg and has been running like a dog for the last year.  Essentially, when trying to accelerate, it would seem hesitant.  I thought it was dirty injectors, having used various injector cleaners like Redex and other  fuel cleaners to no avail.
  • Skoda Yeti - Skoda Yeti - time to move it on 6 Apr 2011 (Forum)
To be honest I miss the engineering integrity, reliability and good old fashioned service that came as standard with the Hondas and Subarus I've run up to crazy mileages in recent years without a single fault or a day's unplanned downtime. I also broke my rule of only buying cars where I have a dealer within 10 miles. When you have a car like this one that needs constant visits to the dealer a two hour round trip starts to grate and costs my company real money.
  • audi S3 black edition(2011) manual - your Audi S3 road test 25 Mar 2011 (Forum)
The price was 30k(list £32095) with a bit of discount and a couple of extras - a Golf R to the same spec would have been over 36k. The performance is quite frankly astounding for the price - as you recommended we only run it on V-power and it seems to be getting faster and faster as the engine loosens - the current A3 is due to be replaced next year and they now do a 40k RS version - my audi dealer(who has driven one ) tells me it's not as good as the S3 as it's only marginally quicker and the ride is awful - also it's auto only.
  • Volkswagen Passat 04 TDi - Keep it or replace? 18 Mar 2011 (Forum)
We have an 04 Passat 100bhp Tdi auto that we're mulling over either keeping and running for another 3 or 4 years and 60k miles or selling and replacing with a smaller petrol auto, Focus or Astra. The car has done 60,000 miles, we've owned it from 9 months and 10,000 miles so we know it has had all the right oil, 10k servicing and oil and filter every 6 months or 5k by main dealers or from 07 by a very competent VAG independent.
  • Ford Ka2 - Are Ford being helpful? 7 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I feel this is unacceptable, i have had the battery loaded tested by two independant garages and neither of them can find a problem with it.  The battery is always above 12 v when cranking and when the engine is running it is receiving a 14V charge from the alternator. Ford have basically said they are unwilling to support this problem until my Mum pays them £105 for fitting a new battery.  Seems very unreasonable to me, not to mention a huge price for a small battery for a car like a KA.
  • Mazda 6 2.0tdi 2008 - 6,250 mile oil change!?? compulsory for some!! 28 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Hey everyone, most of you who will reply are familiar with my on-going case with Mazda and the engine run-away issue that i had. To help keep this short, i had an inspection carried out & this inspection being a joint one between myself, insurance & the selling dealer - this inspection came out in my favour.
  • Ford Mondeo - Ford Mondeo Mk3 1.8 Excessive oil useage 27 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I put a new exhaust on it 2 years ago but the rear box has rotted internally again due to the oil so possibly being chucked thro there. There is no smoke when running unless its a cold day - could be moisture in exhaust.  I changed the air filter and plugs today - I put new plugs in about 45k ago so they where due - however no real signs of oil on them just carbon build up and also I shone LED tourch down plug holes and tops of pistons just carbonised a bit.
  • Peugeot 306 2.0 HDI 116K - Deady Battery 4 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Rising to around 1a when you open the door and put internal lights on. Voltage test with engine running I get around 14.3 rising to 14.6 when you throttle the engine. Had the car nearly 5 years and I have not fitted a battery - and wait for it it's a Tudor battery which from reading on here don't get too good a write up..
  • Ford Focus 2005 TDCI 1.6L - Lack of Turbo boost 17 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, On Friday when I jumped into my Focus I noticed that the Turbo was non existant, everything else was fine it was just running like a non Turbo car. Its covered 76k miles. I must add that in the last few weeks I've had a slight oil leak. Also I changed the oil 2 weeks ago and used some oil that my brother got from his garage (probably cheap 'trade' type oil).
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 05 2.0HDi Lumpy Idle, Stutter and a few other bits 15 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The STOP light on the dashboard doesn't come on when this happens, so I have no warning and have started having to test the pedal for firmness every time before pulling away to check. Are the brakes run from the same pump as the suspension hydraulics on this particular Citroen? Any ideas? Secondly, and these may be related - the idle is occasionally slightly lumpy, nothing huge, just a minor erratic vibration I can feel through the controls.
  • Mrk 3 golf - electrical problems 4 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Car was fine for a couple of months then recently driving one day on comes the oil light and total loss of the rev counter and speedo. drove it untill the complete dash failed and the car cut out due to battery going flat. When it happens my fan heater and window wipers run slow. After recharging my battery attemped the journey home only to find that about a mile from my house when i took off from a set of traffic lights and was above 20 mph everything started to work again only to fail once i was at traffic lights.
  • VW Golf - Turbo Disaster! 4 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I don't think the garage changed the feed pipe when putting the recon on. The turbo blew again and Turbo Solutions reported the damage as the bearings running dry. I then had to pay for this to be repaired. The garage have now fitted the second replacement and say that it's working (obviously I'm not feeling overly confident). However, and its a rather large 'HOWEVER', the intercooler was replaced with a new one prior the first recon fit.
  • People stopping on a busy motorway slip-road 19 Nov 2010 (Forum)
What is the best method of dealing with this scenario? There is a slip-road on a road I regularly commute, where the slip is long but runs up a bank. Many, many drivers make no real effort to get up to speed on this slip, preferring to trundle along at 35-40mph and then accelerate to around 45-50 when joining, generally causing chaos. Generally, if I get the chance I will overtake these drivers and ensure that I have properly matched the speed of the cars on the carriageway well in advance, but occasionally this isn't possible if enough vehicles manage to get in first, leaving you with little choice than to follow on the inside lane of the slip road.
  • Peugeot 306 Hdi - Advise needed on diagnostic results 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Sluggish when turning over.  Engine revs drop when braking until pedal is lifted.  Engine 'over run' a few times when ignition is turned off (this is what set the management light off) So there was a crank sensor fault.  He then tested the battery and told me this was shot pulling only 200amps.
  • Nissan X-Trail Diesel (YD22DDTi engine) (2003) - X-Trail (2003) ABS and 4WD warning lights on dash. 25 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The reason I suspect this (fault code) rather than ABS fault or 4WD transmission fault is because both lights appeared together and stay on all the time while the engine is running. Nothing is printed in the Owner's Manual about both being illuminated at the same time, just about each lamp individually. Someone else on another forum (a Nissan one) seems to have encountered a similar thing but his comment has not been responded to.
  • VW Golf TDI 110 - VW Golf Cat C buy back 20 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I was wondering if this might cause any damage underneath the car which would cause me problems in the long run.  Half of me thinks just say bye bye to the car, but I know for the money they'll probably give me, I won't be able to find one as good as this.  The engine has plenty of life left in it too.
