• Volvo 940 (1992 - 1997) - Cambelts on the 1990 2388cc TD engine. 30 Sep 2007 (Forum)
  Evening all. Have recently bought a 1990 H Volvo 940 TD with 190K OTC. Its the 2388CC straight 6 engine (I believe its a VAG unit) And I want to change the 2 cambelts on it. A couple of questions:- * Are there any holes in the block (like the PSA XUD) to lock the crank solid?

  Hi I'm looking for some advice or clues. I have a Volvo V70 2.5 20v petrol (1999) which has nearly 100k on it. Since 80k it started using oil (or losing it). I can't find a leak, nor is there any evidence of burnt oil in the exhaust. It has passed 2 or 3 MoT tests.

  I've seen; 2.0T SE 52 reg choice of pre-reg'd for £18k-manual and £19k-auto as above 02 reg 10k £16k again choice (man & auto) both these at Volvo main dealers Also I notice 'on here' 03 Reg for £19k manual. They seem good value compared to A4's and BMW's. The SE spec all get leather interiors and decent spec (180bhp too). I presume the dealers with pre-reg 52 plate ones will be getting pretty keen to move them on - are they a good deal?

  I have suggested a Focus (he thinks its too much of a family car), a Civic (maybe but prefers not to follow me), Astra (doesnt want to go back to VX after his old Corsa), Mazda 3 (just doesnt appeal), Kia/Hyundai SUV (had one on day hire didnt like it). To be fair none of these is really in the BMW/Volvo sector and just a tad dull I suspect. Probably the next step is to consider the VW group offerings, maybe a Leon? Newer timing belt models should just be in budget. I know they drive well but I still remain to be convinced as to longevity of modern small turbos.

  They had the car for over a week and eventually when I went back to collect it they admitted they had come up blank and suggested I go to a Volvo garage to get it checked over. They charged me circa £300 which I paid reluctantly after having to hire a vehicle for already a week. I asked ( having read on an informative Volvo owners website ) had they checked all the fuses and in particular Fuse 11 , as this can be a souce of the problem.

  Add on top of this purchase price my cheapest insurance quote (Around £850  fully comp) and tax, and you have already spent around £3,500 before you can begin to use the throttle, yet alone the possibility of oncoming MOTs , maintenance etc. Now, I have been offered my grandparents 'X' reg Volvo S40 XS 1.6 for FREE, with 70k on the clock, 2 careful owners and in overall very good condition, (the kind you might expect from a Volvo driver). The cheapest insurance quote to my surprise was Admiral -- a very competitive £1,100 -- not a million miles away from the 1.2 Seat for such a big and and powerful car (at least for a first car), with other quotes not far behind.

  A mate is selling his S60 and has offered me first refusal. 2001 2.0T S on a 51 reg in Maya Gold 124k with a full Volvo history to 110k. Now 4k overdue a service. 11 months MOT Timing belt done in the 90k service at a Volvo dealer. New clutch (Volvo dealer) and new alternator (local indie auto spark) in the last 10,000 miles.

  mid=6843620 This lunchtime, my fiancee and I were on our way out shopping (I am on holiday). As we turned into a side road, a great big black S-reg volvo estate reversed out of a drive and hit a red L-reg fiat 3 door hatchback just behind the driver side door. It made a huge dent, probably £1,000 worth. Anyway, I flashed at the volvo to stop. It did not stop.
