volvo v50 2.0 diesel - economy - jeffnik

Hi have recently purchased 2005 v50 diesel. Recently had problem with car going into limp mode... when doing 60plus mph. Am i correct in assuming that as i only do short distances normally, the pdf may be blocked. Additionally, if it has got a pdf filter and they cause problems, is there any reason I can not pay to have it removed (not legal requirement in UK?), and engine remapped, thereby saving hassle and increasing mpg

your views please ...regards j

Lots of things could be sending it into limp mode, not just the DPF.

Have you got a warning light / engine management light illuminated when it goes into limp mode? What does the manual indicate it could be?

Rather than having the DPF removed / remap at a cost several hundred pounds, it may be easier just to do a 10- or 15-mile detour on an open road every couple of weeks to get everything up to proper temperature and enable the DPF to regenerate. At worst, that would cost you under a fiver a month in fuel.
