  • Fiat Doblo 2 Dec 2003 (Forum)
He accelerated away from me up the sliproad to the motorway and I just couldn't catch him!!! I was driving my company 2.0 Mondeo Ghia and I just couldn't get near him!! Assume that since it was a taxi it would be a diesel, but what power and torque it had - I wish my dci Scenic could pull like that!!
  • it's that time of year again 29 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Came out this morning, scraped and sprayed drivers half of screen, went round to do other side, and by the time i'd done that, the drivers side had re-frozen. Repeat scrape/clean on both sides, screen is 80% clear, drive of and within fifty yards, screen is covered with an opaque frosting which the windscreen wipers won't shift because they are frozen stiff Bora - what Bora ?
  • Richard Burns 18 Nov 2003 (Forum)
(and in line with my renown lack of bad taste and purile comments, I often thought that brain damage may explain the way Colin McRae drives at times, but not Burnsie!)
  • Disgusting scum 15 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Two teenagers in a stolen car ploughed into a pensioner waiting at a bus stop, killing him. Both occupants of the car said eachother was driving, with no witnesses to confirm who the driver was both get off scott free. Both scumbags shown on TV giving V signs to awaiting cameras outside of court after the verdict (whilst covering their faces to avoid ID) British justice.
  • advice needed what to buy 18 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I currently have a BMW 328I coupe, I just cant get used to driving it. Therefore i m thinking of getting rid. I previously owned a VW Golf VR6 (boy was it awesome....big mistake going to the beemer). Im thinking of either a Misibushi Evo, prepared to give a BMW M3 a go or a skyline.
  • New Police Powers. 6 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Police Officer no longer needs to be in uniform or to find the Offender committing the offence for him/her to arrest for an offence of Driving Whilst Disqualified. 2. Police can now confiscate vehicles that the driver causes annoyance, alarm or distress to others. Owner can reclaim it for a fixed fee (I think in the region of £100) and the Police can charge £15.00 a day for storage.
  • Car songs? 28 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Following on from an earlier "driving songs" thread and the "Classic - Pah!" thread, I remember that the Hillman Avenger was immortalised in a song by an ex Steeley Span member: See http://www.geocities.com/mccormick_cj/index.html Mini Metro - in the Toy Dolls version of "Drivin' along in my Automobile", titled "Drivin' along in my Mini Metro" Cortina - "Nina, I've got a Cortina" (or is that just in my imagination; I can't find it on the web) Any more British cars so honoured?
  • Thoughts on the Audi A4 17 Sep 2003 (Forum)
The reviews wax lyrical, but the customer reviews and forums suggest a lot of problems (particularly with A4 coils and engine management systems). This surprised me as I thought Audi build quality was top notch. Before I go test driving and risk heart overuling head - has anyone got any experience, good or bad, of the A4 petrols?
  • Petrol stripping paint 12 Aug 2003 (Forum)
My mother has a Mercedes A class. Yesterday morning she filled it with petrol and returned home and parked it on the drive. In the afternoon she smelt petrol around the car and noticed the petrol was running out of the filler cap and down the side of the car. The paint has stripped off in places and the rest is badly crazed.
  • Which one? 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Reviews on both cars have been quite fair/impressive but I've yet to see them in the flesh and or test drive them Any thoughts?

  • VW Golf, Alternator Belt Tension? 10 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Hi All I have a VW Golf 1300 Mk2 81,000 miles. I have just fitted a new Alternator drive belt, according to Haynes Manual I set the mid deflection to 2mm. After 500 miles I am supposed to check this and adjust to 5mm if required. The belt does whine slightly, more so with higher engine revs, is this normal?
  • What gets your goat ? 9 Jun 2003 (Forum)
What gets your goat. What makes you mad, even though it makes no difference to your life in any way at all. e.g. People who own cabriolets but drive around on a sunny day with the roof up. People who call Reliant Robins, Robin Reliants. This should be fun !!

  • Peugeot 307 20 May 2003 (Forum)
I have a new Peugeot 307 and have steering wheel tremor at about 70-75 mph. It feels as though the balance needs doing, so had the wheels balanced, new drive shafts, steering rack dampner adusted (made the steering stiff!) but still there. Is this "normal" or is it a problem? It's been suggested that the tyres don't agree with the car? 16" wheels with 205/55/16 Good Year NCTs - standard equipment - not added.
  • mondeo vibrating mirror 13 May 2003 (Forum)
has anybody had problems with the auto dimming mirror on new mondeo's vibrating when driving. mine is so bad that i cant see clearly behind. it also shakes if you have the stereo turned up too much, or have a bit of bass going through the speakers. i don't know if it's just the dimming type or if "they all do that sir" type of thing.
  • Strange Gearshift porblem 2 May 2003 (Forum)
When i start up the car first thing in the morning, the gears change like a treat, but as I continue driving, after about 1 hour, it becomes so hard that it is almost impossible to change gear. Usually gear box porblems are for cold engines, but this one is very strange?!?! any ideas welcome. thanks
  • Fiesta Cambelt 26 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Firstly, am I right in assuming that this commonly used term "cambelt" is in fact a shortened way of saying "Camshaft Drive Belt"? (As found in my service guide) Secondly, is replacing this (whatever it's called) a specialist Ford job or can I expect my local backstreet garage to be able to do a competent (and more than likely, cheaper) job of it?
  • VW Build quality 23 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Guess what? Bora 2 weeks out of warranty and find traces of oil on drive from the area of rear wheel, Dealer confirms rear axle seals shot (oil filled). Surprise surprise cure is new axle and seals. To be fair VW offered to pick up 50% of parts and labour as a goodwill gesture (which they didn't have to) but so much for the fabled VW build quality.
  • Volvo S80 1 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Got a 99 S80 2.9 petrol that has a disconcerting habit of massive brake fade Its an auto The fade seems to be accompanied by a power surge, living in London I do a lot of stop/start driving, Its been to a main dealer but of course it didn\'t happen. Volvo have changed the servo under warranty & say this is still ok. Any input would be gratefully received [please don\'t type an entire note in upper case.
