  • Accord diesel v A4 1.9TDi v BMW 320d 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
However, price (20k) is in the small exec bracket and depreciation is likely to be faster than BMW/Audi. Plan to test drive the A4 1.9TDi soon as well as the BMW 320dES. What do others think of these cars?
  • VW Golf Mk2 Wheel Bearing Click 25 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The nearside rear wheel has a slight click when I do this, does this indicate future wheel bearing trouble? or is the click due to something else possibly? There are no rumbling or humming noises whilst driving?
  • Facelift C5 - todays Autoexpress 21 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The article says that the chassis will be revised (its great already) and smaller spheres to give a firmer ride. (Why? we all want softer quieter rides). Citroen, think about this carefully before letting us drive them on our traffic calmed* roads. *Traffic calmed by not filling in the holes. Ben
  • What happens with a speeding offence? 20 Mar 2004 (Forum)
One of our household has had our first ever speeding offence. A notice arrived this morning asking for details who was driving the car etc. It also said it was a notice of "intention to prosecute" and gives no mention of any fixed penalty. So it is a first offence but the speed was 43mph in a 30mph area. Does the lack of "fixed penalty" imply a court appearance.
  • Clio rear wheel alignment 7 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The vehicle has not been damaged, kerbed, potholed or abused in any other manner. Problem really manifested itself during the recent snow/ice conditions - very exciting to drive!!! Usual Renault warranty 'hassles' are anticipated.
  • How do you get let in? 29 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I was anxious to learn and my reading of the posts suggests I behave as near as possible to a beta minus male hyena, at the same time wearing a blond wig and driving a muddy coloured car a bit older than yours. Do I get the nod? Colin S
  • Polo spluttering 27 Feb 2004 (Forum)
have polo 1.4 petrol, been sitting on the drive with hardly any petrol in, took it up the road today to refill and car is spluttering even with £20 of petrol in tank i put in. changed the fuel filter around 10,000 miles ago (car has done 60k). what are the chances of dirt being sucked up from bottom of tank and blocking the jets and if so how easy is it to clean or fix problem.
  • VW Mk2 Golf - Uneven Front Tyre Wear 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
or could there be a number of reasons? For information, the car has always pulled slighty to the right whilst driving.
  • Legacy whine 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Within the past few days a rear end whine has developed, noticeable over 40mph. The rear axle is covered in oil, but not dropping any on my drive, so this condition could have existed for a while. Is the noise cause for serious concern, especially if transmission related? the car runs fine, but better safe than sorry. Any ideas please on what I should check out?
  • New City Rover 24 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Well I have been driving the new CityRover for the last few days. My opinion of these, is they should rename them as (deleted) , I have never driven a car as bad as these, the gearbox winds just like the old \'CityMetro\', the suspension bottoms on bad ruts in the road at the front and the list goes on.
  • Suicidal motorcyclists 16 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Couple of weeks ago, driving Gloucester towards Cirencester along a bit of single carriageway. Filthy weather - windy, raining, still early morning, not properly light. Queue of stationary traffic coming (or rather not coming) in the opposite direction.

  • Pajero crankshaft pulley 26 Jan 2004 (Forum)
His 4x4 was drivable to the garage and was showing signs of rougth running below 1500rpm but above was OK, eventualy the drive belt came off and all power steering was lost etc. The garage is saying that the end of the crank is damaged and therefore he would be better getting a replacement engine. Views anyone to the extent of the damage?
  • Where\'s the noise coming from? VW Passat 23 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Hi.I have a 2001 Passat. There is a noise that sounds like a coin stuck somewhere. When I brake it rolls forward, when I go up a steep hill or accelerate, it rolls back.It sounds as though it is around the centre console area.I removed this last night but nothing there.I then found a ball-bearing(???) in the heater vent under the drives seat. But it wasn\'t this either.Anyone any ideas where this \"thing\" could possibly be.
  • New Car 18 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Getting a new car soon and although I would hope that the car was in excellent condition (being that it is brand new) I'm just wondering what I should check for before driving the car off the forecourt (to avoid any "that dent wasn't there when it left the showroom, it's not our responsibility" kind of thing. Any scratches/dents are an obvious place to start but is there anything else I should do?
  • Traffic police cuts linked to road death 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
See http://tinyurl.com/38hcw The article argues that lack of enforcement is leading to more deaths and an increase in drink driving. One notable statistic is that the number of dedicated traffic officers in 2001-02 was just under 6,500 but 8,900 ten years before. (Not added to the speeding or speed camera threads because it touches on issues wider than that.)
  • MG SV 21 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Clarkson reviewed the new V8 MG SV in today's Times' "Driving" section. Performance was rated very well but he mentioned that price wise (75k for a base model)they will be pitching the car against the Porsche GT3 instead of a TVR. "Performance" versions will be over 100k apparently and in Lamborghini territory.

  • High mileage corsa 13 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I\'m thinking of buying a B class corsa (1997 P) it\'s one of the 16 valve models is 7 years old with one owner so I\'m assuming e\'s done a fair bit of motorway driving with it. The mileage is at 110k. Any thought onto how much life the vehicle has left? It\'ll be used as a school run/shopping car so not much mileage but alot of the obvious start stop strain. TIA Himji
  • New A3 3.2 Quattro 9 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I took a test drive in the manual version last Saturday, boy am I glad I did. This car has bags of grip and power. Even in the high gears, 4,5 and 6 you can still get plenty of power down. The grip is also stunning.
