  • Previous owners 1 Aug 2008 (Forum)
My own view is that it wouldn't matter at all on an older car or a car that still has warranty on it, as long as the car is ok and a test drive is conducted. But it may be a deciding factor when choosing between prospective purchases that don't fall into either of those two categories. What do other BRs think ? Keith.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 98 1.8 engine smelling like brake pads 30 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hi, i,m not sure if it's the clutch that smells and therefore gone or what. When I raise the clutch to engage the drive shft a rubbing noise happens. The brake pad smell is there from just the engine running. The biting point does feel at a good point when lifting the peddle as if the clutch isn't gone. Any ideas anyone?

  • Looking for car hire advice. 8 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I'm planning holidays in Edinburgh with my Mrs and she wants us to hire a car even though I've no problem with driving my Mazda 323 TD to and from Edinburgh. I'm looking for a small hatch (Focus Astra size) diesel but all the websites I've visited seem to offer only petrol cars or at least this is what they've advertised!
  • Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 1994 1.9 - Dead when turning the ignition key 30 May 2008 (Forum)
When I turn ignition key nothing happens, but battery is fine and when I run a direct live feed to the solenoid the car starts and drives ok. Mechanic suggested that either the ignition switch or the starter relay is faulty, but I cannot locate the starter relay, any ideas where it is located or has anyone had a similar experience.

I have a 2002 VW Passat TDI (130bhp) I noticed on the drive home tonight that the temperature gauge was reading zero. I immediately checked whether the heating worked. It doesn't. The air is cool at best and on auto (climatronic) the front vents are pumping no air at all.

  • Cruise control and fuel economy 20 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Just to help settle a pub argument from the weekend. Two identical cars driving at the same speed on the same road in the same conditions. One is using cruise control to maintain speed. One is being driven conventionally with the driver maintaining the speed. Will there be any difference in fuel consumption between the two cars?
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1997 2.8 VR6 - Low water temperature 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I am guessing its a broken thermostat, which looks easy enough to replace. But I wont be able to sort it out until next week - will the car be OK if I continue to drive it with the low water temperature?
  • Hyundai Coupe (2002 - 2008) - 2007, 2000cc, Speed Sensitive Wipers Function 12 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The owners manual does not refer to them. If I set the intermittent wipers at the fastest setting when driving, they will slow to a fast intermittent wipe when I stop. Is that all I can expect or will the intermittent wipe automatically speed up with car speed. Not noticed anything on my commute.
  • Honda Civic UK (1995 - 2000) - Aerodeck 2000 1.6LS - CV boot replacement. 11 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Does anyone know whether it is possible to remove the nearside outer cv joint to replace the boot or do you have to remove the whole drive shaft and dismantle the upper joint to replace the outer boot. Any information to help me to decide on this would be appreciated.

My focus went in last Monday needing a new rear bumper, and as yet the parts have not even arrived. In the meantime I'm driving an 08 reg Focus so of course I'm not complaining but just thought it strange that it takes so long for ford to source parts

Mornin... As some of you may be aware I have a 306 XSI with suspected head gasket issues but the car drives fine... even with a good thrashing. Now... being well aware I can't believe everything I read, does anyone have experience with this stuff?
