  • Used Van Buying Guide: Berlingo 2008-2016 22 Nov 2019 (News)
It’s an easy enough fix, and will be obvious when driving, it likely to sit low and knock on the road. With light use the brakes discs should last around 60,000 miles before they need replacing, likewise the clutch is reasonably strong, frequent replacements likely to be down to driver abuse than any fault with the Berlingo itself.
  • Volkswagen Reliability Shock in Australia 8 Jun 2013 (News)
.  Dowling writes that he "somehow feels partly responsible for not warning more loudly or more often about the hidden heartache in owning a Volkswagen."  In my time as HJ I've had issues over VW clutch cable tensioners, brake discs, heater matrix failures, alternator failures, fuel pump failures, fuel tank lifter pump failures, doorlocks, alarm systems, windows ECUs, coil packs, manual gearboxes, timing belt pulleys, bulkhead vent well drains, ABS/ESP modules, timing chains, Twincharger problems, DSG transmissions, DMFs, DPFs...the list goes on and on.
  • Barons Classic Car Auction, Sandown Park, November 1st 13 Oct 2011 (News)
The 1969 MkII example is presented in better than new condition, the result of a comprehensive, nut and bolt restoration that included a bare metal re-spray, renewed or restored suspension components, complete new fuel system, brakes and clutch, and re-bored engine. £10,000-£12,000. And if you have a slightly smaller budget, the 1963 version would make a lovely addition to any classic collection – or the perfect start for one.
  • Classic Sales 7th and 21st October 6 Oct 2008 (News)
The sports cars on offer include a 1998 355 F1 GTS with Formula One style, paddle shift, semi-automatic transmission, which has covered just 22,250 miles from new. Featuring uprated suspension, steering and brake callipers, and the factory fitted Fiorano handling kit, it carries an estimate of £40,000-£45,000. Historic British sporting machines are represented by an immaculate 1953 Austin Healey 100/4 which is believed to have been restored by the great marque specialist Denis Welch (£25,000-£30,000), while slightly more contemporary British sports car style can be found in the form of a head-turning supercharged 1990 Morgan Plus 8 (£21,000-£23,000).
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 13-6-2015 13 Jun 2015 (News)
Many thanks  EH, via email The price of £7,995 is ridiculous for any 11-year old Rover, even a 75. £1,995 would make sense. Did you miskey?    Giving owners a brake I have a June 2008 Volvo S40 saloon, mileage 33k. I recently had the warning "anti skid service required" appear. I have been told that Volvo have covered the cost for remedying this problem, but my Volvo dealer thinks the free cover by Volvo is for cars under 6 years old.
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 4 Apr 2015 (News)
It has been serviced by a Mercedes franchise since new. It has failed its recent MoT due to corrosion on the rear brake pipes (one severe one minor) as they pass through the rear wheel arches. Is this to be expected? It is garaged each night. Mercedes has quoted £1,000 for the repair. I have asked for a contribution from Mercedes but have had no response to date.
  • Peugeot Expert Used Guide 2007-2016 16 Jun 2025 (News)
A clutch will cost around £600 from an independent garage, and around £1000 if you go to Peugeot, it's worth changing the flywheel at the same time - that adding about £350 to the cost but worth it as doing so requires the clutch to be out, anyway. Front brake pads will cost around £110 fitted, likewise those at the rear, if you need discs two you can double those prices. A diagnostic check to ascertain any faults will cost about £45, an exhaust around £250, and a timing belt replacement around £420.
  • Used Van Buying Guide: Transit Connect 2014 - 2019 21 Nov 2019 (News)
Should you need diagnostics running to check any fault code expect to pay around £45, a replacement clutch costing around £540 fitted, front brake pads under £100, rears under £70, replacement front discs in the region of £220. The timing belt on the TDCi engines should be replaced every four years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first).
  • MB World Experiences Make Excellent Christmas Presents 17 Nov 2010 (News)
With two exciting opportunities for them to get behind the wheel and under the tuition of a professional driving instructor your children will learn basic car control, including steering, braking and reversing. If you think that they are ready for something a little more extreme, why not send them off-road. Taking in 10-acres of axle twisting terrain and water crossings, this is present that will blow grandma’s sweater out of the water.
  • 70 Years of Jaguars up for Auction at Sandown Park 22 Apr 2010 (News)
The 1959 3.4 XK150 FHC was the subject of a comprehensive, £40,000 restoration in 1999/2000 by Lawford Heath Classics to ‘factory fresh’ condition (£35000-40000), while the 1958 XK150 DHC was restored and upgraded some years ago and features a modern, ZFHP22, 4-speed automatic transmission, stainless steel exhaust, 15 inch chrome wire wheels, uprated cooling system with a Kenlowe fan, Vicarage power steering, adjustable AVO shock absorbers and uprated brake servo (£37500-40000). For many, of course, the quintessential Jaguar is the E-type, and there is no shortage of these at Sandown Park. There are three very fine S1 FHCs,  and two S3s - a 1971 FHC, which was the third to roll off the Browns Lane production line and which was Jaguar’s press test car (£17000-20000) and a magnificent 1973 S3 roadster, rebuilt outstandingly by Vicarage (£78000-85000).
  • Hyundai gets into the funeral business, BMW's political roundel badges and a SEAT Leon with a 10,000-mile range 1 Apr 2010 (News)
Other important revisions have been made to the SEAT's standard suspension set-up of course, allowing it to maintain its sporty handling while carrying the increased fuel load. The Leon's already efficient brakes have been uprated, too. As ever, safety is paramount and SEAT's engineers have worked hard to ensure the concept doesn't compromise passenger or pedestrian protection. Significant reinforcement of the Leon's already robust passenger protection measures ally to the fact that even should the tank be ruptured in a serious accident, a characteristic of diesel fuel is that although it will burn in open air using a wick it will not explode and does not release a large amount of flammable vapour.
  • MINIs and BMWs Beat New Congtestion Charge 15 Feb 2008 (News)
Both cars are Band B in relation to Vehicle Excise Duty tiers and cost just £35 a year to tax. All four vehicles employ technologies such as Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start-Stop and Electric Power Steering under the EfficientDynamics banner to help cut fuel bills and emissions. An optimum gearshift change indicator is included to encourage economical motoring.
  • Sustainable Mobility, According to Renault Eco2 16 Jun 2010 (News)
And with 226Nm torque available instantly, throttle response is also instant pulling the car forward with a jet aircraft like electric motor whine. On deceleration and braking, the motor regenerates power back into the battery, potentially giving it a longer range in cities than out on the open road, though in reality the range works out about the same. Top speed is about 90mph, and 0-60 in about 11 seconds.

  • Huge Engine Technology Breakthrough From FIAT 7 Mar 2009 (News)
When the solenoid valve is open, the hydraulic chamber and the intake valves are de-coupled; the intake valves do not follow the intake camshaft anymore and close under the valve spring action. The final part of the valve closing stroke is controlled by a dedicated hydraulic brake, to ensure a soft and regular landing phase in any engine operating conditions. Through solenoid valve opening and closing time control, a wide range of optimum intake valve opening schedules can be easily obtained.

Registration: GK 8063 Chassis Number: FS3621 Engine Number: FS3618 Mileage: tbc Estimate: Refer Department The 4½ Litre was an evolution of the 3 Litre, sharing that car's basic chassis, including its semi-elliptical suspension at all four wheels and four-wheel brakes. The straight-4 engine was bored out to 100mm to produce 4.4 litre of displacement.  This was good for 110hp in road-going models or 130hp when tweaked for racing.  Another claimed victory at the 24 Hours du  Mans in 1928 with drivers Woolf Barnato and Bernard Rubin at the wheel.
  • New Audi A6 2.0 TDI Here for 54 reg at £24,020 6 Aug 2004 (News)
They gain S line trademarks such as the 18-inch 5-arm alloy wheels, S line sports suspension and interior enhancements, and also add a larger 17-inch ventilated disc braking system (not 2.4 or 2.0 TDI) and special S line decorative facia inlays in brushed aluminium. Drivers of A6 S line models also have the option to stand further out from the crowd by adding exclusive S line exterior identifiers at an extra cost of £1,100 (or £875 for 4.2 quattro models).

Even though the 6-speed wet clutch DSG is not as problematic as the dry clutch 7-speeder fitted to lower powered engines, when you're really using the advantages of an auto to left foot brake into corners, a DSG will override your decision of what gear you want to be in. No problem getting the TT as a quattro and the Golf R is 4WD. I'd be looking at a BMW M135i or an M235i coupe if I were you, but these are not X-Drive.
