BMW 118d or Volkswagen Golf GT 140 18 Jul 2013 (Forum)
So what I'm hoping for is for people to tell me what your experiences/opions are of each car. Any issues that you've encountered with them or are aware of. I'm going to test drive them both in the weekday of next week to see what I think of the drive. Both cars are Diesel, have less than or equal 40k miles and are 57 plates. And I have already looked at the section of this site that has the pros and cons. -
Mazda 3 185bhp 2.2 diesel - Fuel Consumption 4 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I'm aware of the affects of a cold engine, or start-stop traffic, but compensating for these factors the fuel consumption still seems extremely erratic. I always drive sedately (1000 rpm) but occasionally drive on higher revs to clear the dpf. The car has only done 18000 miles anyway. Recently I've noticed the car pulling even with my foot off the accelerator pedal. -
Volkswagen Polo - VW polo 2004 engine jerking and warning light on 4 Jun 2013 (Forum)
The car needs to be utilised now, however, when I start the engine and with the car parked in neutral the engine consistently jerks and the engine warning light is on. When driving the car there is continued engine jerking and power loss. The car is very difficult to drive. I have changed the spark plugs, however, the problem has not been resolved. Any adivice as to what the problem may be? -
Toyota Avensis - Eratic Idle 3 May 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Toyota Avensis 2.0 vvti (t25) and I occasionally have the idle drop down to around 600rpm. I got the throttle body cleaned at a garage and on the drive home the idle started dropping as low as 400rpm. I have reset the ecu and the idle has improved a little but its still not right. What I have found is that if I drive the car its fine for about 30 minutes but after this the idle drops to below 600 and the car shakes alot. -
Vauxhall Astra - APCOA PARKING FINE AT LUTON AIRPORT 25 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I receied a Enforcement Notice from APCOA giving me the opportunity to pay a fine for stopping/dropping off in a non drop off area. Actually it was my first time to dropping off someone at luton airport so i was driving bit slow to see where is dropping off point but suddenly at small roundabout my car engine stop and my firend just took off from there. Because he was getting late and didnt have any luggage it took me only 5 secs to drive away from there. -
Landrover Freelander - Clutch Life 1 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Hi How long is it possible for a clutch to last? I know you are all going to say that it depends on how you drive, but if you are trying to get to most mileage out of it what would be possible. In order to get the best life out of it, i use the brakes to slow down rather than changing down through the gears, i use the handbrake to hold the car at a stop, i don't slip the cluch and i try to drive as smoothly as possible. -
Renault Clio Campus - Rear End Shunt 19 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I cannot comprehend how this so called driver can now allege that i caused the accident. I was on my way to work, perfectly wide awake, driving at 50mph, how was this my fault??? -
Younger generation not so interested in cars 14 Mar 2013 (Forum)
which was started by jamie745: Compared to the early 90s and now - many fewer men in the office talking about cars all the time eg what they drive, what they want to drive, what they've seen recently, what's cool....A sense that for a younger generation they've replaced wanting to own a car/get a better car/talk about cars with other things eg smartphones, internet, etc. -

Went to test drive a car and it sounds wrong 17 Jan 2013 (Ask HJ)
I went to view a car (2000 Ford Fiesta) which I quite liked. However, there was a slight gravelly sound from engine when revving, not from the exhaust.... -
Audu A4 2.0 TDI 170 2007 - Glow plug light flashing 21 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Seems ok in cruise control also. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could have been as I'm a bit concerned about driving too far in the future. Many thanks -
Citroen C5 Hdi (2001) - Coolant loss without leaks nor head gasket probs 16 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I've had the head gasket checked and there's no problem, there are no leaks and I've changed the cap to the resevoir so it's not escaping there. The engine starts fine and the car is driving fine. It has done a long distance drive recently without incident however I'm very wary about getting stuck in traffic and overheating. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Alwright -
any - LEZ Not enforced ? 14 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Was telling a friend that I avoided driving my old V8 Diesel yank in London since the LEZ (London Emission zone ) came in Jan this year, banning all diesel powered vehicles over 1205 kg and older than 2002 from driving in London, upon threats of £200 daily fines. -
Permitting car - insurance issue 11 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Now... the police might find out he was driving without an insurence. If that will happen am I also responsible? I made myself very clear about buying an insurence and he can admit it. -
SEAT Toledo - Ringing in DSG gearbox/transmission? 21 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Reliable and well-maintained 130k SEAT Toledo Tdi with reconditioned dsg gearbox has sound like metal keys lightly jangling up through transmission when accelerating and changing up in auto mode, probably more often from stopped or low speed. Noise stops after change then does not come back when driving. Doesn't happen on down change. Seemingly DMF and clutches okay. Mainly happens in colder weather. Happened 3 years ago and it went away. Any ideas what it is? BTW, the car drives really well and the changes are fast and smooth... -
SAAB 9-3 - Intermittent accelerator problem 4 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I recently bought an o8 Saab 9-3 1.9 TDI 150 Linear with 40K on the clock.Very occasionally when driving and usually changing down to go round a corner I can take my foot off the accelerator and the car keeps going and seems to pick up speed as if the cruise control has been switched on.I have to brake to slow the car down.I have been back to the garage where the mechanic is Saab trained and he has not found any fault including plugging into the computer.Other than this the car is fine. The car drives fine and as stated this is an intermittent problem.Any ideas ? -
Mondeo 1.8 TDCi purchase 2 Jul 2011 (Ask HJ)
I'm looking at used Mondeos, around 2008. Occasionally 100bhp, 1.8 diesels pop up, are these vastly different to drive from the more common 125? -

Driveway in front of zig zag lines 7 Apr 2011 (Forum)
There are traffic lights about 30 yards away and the white zigzag lines run along in front of this house. Obviously i will need a dropped kerb before getting permission for a drive way. BUT do you think the local highway agency will give me permission for a dropped kerb seeing as there are zig zag lines in front of the property? Just another 500 yards down this main road there is a house that has a drive way which is right next to a set of traffic lights and the zig zags are in front of their house. -
