Audu A4 2.0 TDI 170 2007 - Glow plug light flashing - mm707
Hi,

Driving along doing about 75-80 in cruise control and suddenly the car loses power, the glow plug light flashes. I was able to pull over and switch off. After about a minute I restarted, no problem, the car went the rest of the journey ( about 15 miles ) without any further issues. Seems ok in cruise control also.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could have been as I'm a bit concerned about driving too far in the future.

The engine went into 'limp home mode' due to a problem detected by the ECU. You will need to either go to a VW/Audi garage or a diagnostics specialist (probably cheaper) & get the stored fault codes read. If there are a lot, some may be from a previous problem, they will need clearing & then re-read after the next time you get the flashing glow light & that will point the garage, if they are competent, towards the fault.

Provided your oil & water are at the correct levels there should be no problem with driving the car.

Had it scanned and it showed this .....

000665 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Control Range Not Reached P0299 - 006 - Short to Plus - Intermittent


The bloke cleared the code and said it may have just been some muck from the egr, anyway he says it's best to get the revs right up and give it a bit of a thrash and see how it goes.
