  New Panda Eco For £4,995 Under Scrappage Scheme 1 May 2009 (News)
  Fiat has confirmed that it intends to take part in the new scrappage scheme, announced by Chancellor Alastair Darling in last week’s Budget. With £1,000 put forward by the Treasury for motorists who scrap their old cars in exchange for new ones, matched or exceeded by the manufacturer, it means there has never been a better time to buy a new Fiat car. The deal, called Fiat-eco plus+, will further assist drivers choosing to get rid of their old ‘banger’ and replace it with a cleaner, safer and more economical new vehicle.

  The deVries Group ceased trading on 20 January, 2009 when administrative receivers were appointed. Like many car retailers, deVries suffered from cash flow pressures arising from a drop in the volume in UK vehicle sales linked to the worsening economic conditions. The former deVries Honda site at Northallerton will be closed.

  The low kilometre (21,000) year 2000 Nissan Terrano II 2.7TD Comfort in the photo sold for 10,818 Euros (£7,460), which is quite high compared to the UK. Dearest car in the sale was a 17k kms 2003 SEAT Leon 1.9TDI Sports Limited, which sold for 12,380 Euros (£8,540) against a Spanish Used Car Price Guide price of 15,130 Euros (£10,434), leaving £2,000 for a private buyer to negotiate over.

  Slightly less bargain-basement were a 69k mile 2001/51 Audi AllRoad 2.5TDI, sold for a high £18,000 and a 99k mile 2001Y Mercedes CLK 320 Avant Garde convertible, sold after a real bidding battle for £18,950; and a 17k mile 2001Y Mercedes V270CDI Elegance auto, bid to £16,900 provisional. Remember, van sale on Thursday, ex-fleet cars and part-exchanges on Friday, same as today at Blackbushe next Monday, and also next Monday evening a BCA Classic Sale to be held at the Brooklands Museum in Weybridge. Next Top Car at BCA Blackbushe will be Monday 14th June.

  1928 Austin 12/4 Star of Classic Auction 18 Jun 2002 (News)
  Seems that the original purchaser, a Mr Scott, insisted on having it in Riviera Blue metallic as shown in the MG catalogue, despite the car not being available in that colour. He then proceeded to cover just 6,300 miles in nine years after which, when the fuel pump inevitably failed due to stale petrol, he attempted to have a new one fitted under warranty.

  Some dealers are talking no customers. Others can’t buy enough cars. So, once again, it was mixed messages at auction today. The 99V S-Type Jag in the photo was as base spec as you can get. 3.0 litre V6 manual with velour seats, solid green paint, 74,000 miles, a towhook and TWR sticker in the back window.

  A top bid of £7,200 for a 28,000 mile 99V? Now I can believe that. It’s one thing if his company car goes pop, but the last thing private man wants to spend his own money on is an unreliable car. So has word got also around about turbo failures of the otherwise fantastic BMW 530D? The 63,000 mile 2000V SE Touring auto in the photo, spotless and in the right colour, sold for a low £17,750.
