  • Mixed Reviews of New MINI 23 May 2001 (News)
So far 'Autocar' not only offers the only full road test you can buy, but also a fascinating supplement detailing the painful Anglo-German gestation of the new car. Page 109 of this week's issue gives a list of dealers with their e-mail addresses, but 2,000 orders have already been taken so even if you order a MINI today you could face a long wait for delivery.
  • Auction Prices Up 20 Dec 2000 (News)
A 14,000 mile 99V LX HDI 110 sold for £9,400; a 31,000 mile 99T GLX HDI 110 estate sold for £9,600; and a 28,000 mile 99V GLX HDI 90 Family estate sold for £10,825. 306s were also strong, with £8,800 paid for a 19,000 mile 99V 2.0Xsi 3-door, while a 17,000 mile 99V 206 1.6GLX 5-door with a/c sold for a high £8,350. The Great Trade Centre buyer even remarked that cars were marked up for less on his site. There really weren’t many bargains at all, unless you consider £3,925 cheap for a 140,000 mile 95M BMW 318i with a sunroof. Other cars not too dear included an 82,000 mile 97R VW Passat 1.8S automatic in Ghastly Green for £4,600; a 115,000 mile 96P Vauxhall Omega 2.5CDX manual for £3,000; and a 90,000 mile 92K Nissan Primera 2.0SLX 4-door in presentable metallic blue for £1,000.

  • Car Auction Prices Might Have Peaked 1 Apr 2009 (News)
After three months of price rises that saw one junior supercar go up in the books £6,000 last month then £2,000 this month, and month on month rises of £600 even for average cars, the market might have got to the point where it can’t take any more. When prices are falling, more cars are knocked down. When prices seem to be rising, fleets won’t take low bids, but can get trapped into an unreasonably high expectation of what their cars will fetch.
  • Aston and Ferrari Auction Tomorrow 7 Dec 2008 (News)
BCA will be holding a massive sale of prestige cars at Blackbushe on Monday 8th December. In recession-hit Britain, with fleets urgently needing to offload heavy metal by the year-end, prices are expected to be low. And there many not be many more opportunities to buy at these sorts of prices, because once the cars find financially secure homes they are likely to stay there.
  • P/x cars still cheap at Auction 23 Nov 2007 (News)
There seemed to be stronger buying today as anyone with a sales site reckons he’ll only have to finance cars for six weeks before the January bounce, so better to buy now than wait until then. That said there are now so many cars on the Blackbushe site that you now have to reckon on 20 minutes to park up in the Sunday Market area and walk back to the halls.

  • Chancer’s Week At Auction 19 Dec 2005 (News)
Many ordinary people have had their incomes cut and no longer have confidence to take money out of their houses to spend on cars. Gordon Brown may be smiling, but car dealers certainly aren’t. I walked into the halls to see a 22k mile 04 reg facelift Mondeo 1.8LX sell for just £5,475. I’ve never seen an 18 month old Sierra or Mondeo quite at low as that.

  • ‘FoMoCo Blue Demo’ Cobra to star at Race Retro 2 Dec 2019 (News)
Kevin acquired CSX 2360 in June 2018, describing it as a beautiful road car but one that was in no way ready for racing. In fact, the previous owner covered just 300 miles in 18 years with the car. Kevin’s plan was for competition, though, and the Cobra was despatched to RW Racing Services in Northamptonshire for preparation.
  • Hidden Heroes: BMW 318ti Compact 15 Nov 2019 (News)
It sold in fairly limited numbers, but was always a popular car on the used market.  In recent years, however, its appeal has gone from aspirational buyers to the car of choice for modifiers and drifters, which means that finding a decent 318ti Compact for sale today is pretty difficult - a situation not helped by the fact that the newest examples are now over 20 years old and corrosion is a fairly big problem, too.  If you can unearth a good one, then what you’ll end up with is a modern classic that’s great to drive, easy to own, cheap to run and more rewarding than you’d imagine.
