  I'm going to buy a newer version of my car but i'm considering switching to diesel because of the numbers: 0-60 time, torque and of course fuel economy are all in the diesel version's favour, only the BHP value and top end speed (which i'd never get even close to!) is in the petrol's favour by a tiny margin. Does anyone have experience of the BMW 3 litre diesel M57TUD30 engine circa 2004? How does it run? What does it drive like? How does it behave coupled to an autobox? I'd be buying one with about 60,000 miles on the clock, i think this is hopefully too soon to worry about aged injectors, knackered diesel pump or dpf renewal etc. are there any other big ticket items i should be aware of?

  I have now ordered my new mini - and thanks to everyone on here with advice over the past few months which has finally led to me doing so - and I have been sent a leaflet about "BMW Seal and Protect" which, apparently, "using high-performance sealants, involves a dealership-applied BMW ard Wax to exterior paintwork and, as a result, exterior surface resilience and water repellence is increased by over 300%".

  I have a BMW 520, year 2000 model. When I apply the brakes, there is a severe juddering noise from the offside front side. Also the ABS and the ASC warning lights come on sometimes, although not all the time, not necessarily while braking.

  Total cost new would be 24145. I paid 19995! That price was non-negotiable but I wasnt complaining. Having checked the BMW website there's lots of 1-series of similar ages all with thousands off. I thought the residuals on this car is rock solid? I queried the price with the dealer (after shaking on it) and he said BMW 'sell these cars at a loss'.

  The result was that he was left facing the ceiling of the car, trying to brake to avoid hitting anyone in front of him. The car was an R-registered 520i. He has pursued the issue with BMW UK, and after much correspondance they have returned a verdict, (without having examined the seat), that there is no problem with the seat doing this. This is not a BMW-bashing attempt - I am just trying to find out if there are other people out there who have experienced such a reaction in a crash, with this particular car.

  Quite a few BIG discounts on pre reg 19 cars - all with modest mileage <500miles BMW 320i, saloon msport autos+ xdrive £27K ish, some lesser 320s around £23K BMW 340i saloon msport 3 litre autos £27K to £30K Quite a lot of MBs in similar price range I take it these are cars which are old models & it is a clearout - £16K off list of a 340 - assuming you have the cash spare to buy &can afford to fuel the car - "Ford Focus money"

  I'd be ok with this except that I must have been driving around for ages without this clip, an item even the BMW spares department seemed to 'be aware of'. Even the test centre said the car was still safe. So it seems to me that the car has failed unfairly because BMW fit unnecessary brake parts that can just drop off at random, and if it does, it really doesn't matter.

• BMW X3 - Faulty Turbo Diesel 15 Feb 2011 (Forum)
  The car has done only 35000 miles and is used by wife a a runaraound - Is this a common fault and can i get BMW to cover the cost of the repair as it seems to be a recurring issue with X3s and the turbo diesel engines?   I'm wondering if there is any one out there who has fallen victim to thieve who steal BMW sport coupe bumpers and skirts? This seem to be the trend in London right now and I would like to know how to secure my skirts and bumpers so they cannot be removed from the outside of the car. BMW don't seem to be interested as they make money from victims of theft buying parts from them.

  Hi all, I have just completed a full & very thorough service on my much loved BMW 328i SE & now want to reset my service schedule computer readout. Is it possible I can do this myself or does it have to be carried out by a main dealer/BMW specialist. I have done the servicing myself as I am mechanicaly minded & was not happy with it being done at the main dealer last time it was due, as I ended up doing things that had been missed.

  The mpg has dropped and i do have loss of power . It still drives but im not because of it smoking ! Bmw want an arm and leg to even open the bonnet anyone help !

  Hi I have a BMW 320d, apparently the turbo doesn't seem to be working well, it comes and goes when it wants to and the kick isn't strong when it does come. No smoke from the exhaust apart from the usual diesel black smoke you get when you put your foot down.

  BMW can find no fault and suggest an expensive total strip down of system with no guarantee of finding problem. So far the problem has not happpened in heavy rain, but I am concerned that it happens again on motorway when I cannot stop easily.

The BMW 535d beat lots of very quick motors, including (but not limited to): BMW M3 / Nisan 350Z / Merc SL 55 AMG. More alarmingly, it was within less than 2 seconds of beating the Honda NSX, 911 turbo, Audi S4, Imprezza STI.
