Corsa Diesel - Glow Plug Problem 10 Jul 2004 (Forum)
It does 400 miles a week on the motorway and is serviced regularly, oil changes at 6,000 miles and we use Shell Diesel fuel. The problem that we have is with starting. It "eats" glow plugs. We have had 3 new sets within a few months of each other. When I take the car to the garage it may be that 2 plugs are not working and are covered in black. -
Have you heard about the Renault con 6 Nov 2003 (Forum)
The road speed through the other gears are likewise 33% down on the brochure. Consequently the car cannot achieve anywhere near the fuel economy stated nor its maximum speed nor its acceleration (You have to go into 3rd gear to get to 60 mph) Renault will have nothing of it and after 6 months of battling I have been advised to take the matter up with the Finance Company, which i am doing. -
Focus Hesitation 3 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I do not thing it is leads as in my experience they normally affect one cylinder and in fact it feels a bit like fuel starvation, however the fact that new plugs appeared to make a difference makes me wonder if it is electrical. (coil low on output perhaps?). Any suggestions very welcome. Superannuated Rocker PS have you ever noticed when attempting to track down a problem by working your way through the possible guilty components that any thing you change appears to solve the problem for a brief period? -
New small cars with automatic boxes ? 16 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Must have automatic gearbox. A true automatic, not easytronic, cvt, speedgear etc. Must be cheap to buy, fuel and insure if possible. Not too bothered about performance, image etc. I have made a shortlist below: Seat Arosa 1.4 S Auto. VW Lupo 1.4 E Auto. VW Polo 1.4 S Auto. Skoda Fabia 1.4 Classic Auto. -
VW Golf MkIII Cutting Out 11 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I have taken it to a friend who works for VW who has run it through the computer diagnostics and can find no fault. He suggested I replace the related sensors that manage the fuel/idling as one of these may have been giving a false reading. So started to replace these but it's running expensive, the next one is over £100 and there has been no change so far. I'm now reluctant to spend any more money on it without being sure it's going to be fixed. -
polo vs quicksilver 13 Mar 2003 (Forum)
hi, me again, still looking for cars, time is getting closer though, should get one in easter. just a question, my parents want me to get a 1.0 metallic blue polo 1998 with just under 30,000 miles on the clock. the asking price is £3,600 but can be negotiated to £3,500. firstly is this a good deal as my parents know the seller through a friend and believe this is the best option. i however, am not convinced. i believe that the polo will be sluggish and not fuel economical with a 1 litre engine and i would rather get a pug 106 quicksilver which i have always had my heart set on. my mum seems to think of any argument she can including insurance, (prooved her wrong, its £750 for me, more than that for a higher engine fiesta!) -
In the market for a new Citroen Picasso 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Further to the car tax question, I have decided to hand back my company car (sob!) and take the money instead. I will get petrol on expenses, so will pay tax on the cost of fuel rather than the BIK formula. Company will also pay tax and maintenance which will be taxed as a benefit too. From a distance I've always liked the Citroen Picasso. It has a good HJ report, a search on here hasn't shown up any horror stories, the unoffical Picasso website is also helpful. -
Rear rattle ....! Omega + Focus 13 Jan 2003 (Forum)
A 3,000 mile Ghia TDCi. I was frankly amazed by the performance of the car, when coupled with the fuel economy & spec - a real little "belter". Now the shocking bit. It suffers from the exact same TYPE of rattle from the rear as my Omega. Spare wheel bolted down (even tried removing it - made no difference), and everything is where its supposed to be. -
Omega 2.5 V6 breather/oil leak 20 Nov 2002 (Forum)
By the way the screw in the plastic breather unit was covered by a plastic tray with the ecotec symbol on it - you can use a screw driver to lever it off to expose the screw. Soaking the breather unit in petrol removed the gunge. I found removing and replacing the fuel rail quite tricky - very nervous of dropping a bolt on removal and refitting. I would be interested in how Crombster or anyone else did it. You were right it is quite a time consuming but ultimately a very rewarding job. -
What's the matter with these people? 8 Feb 2002 (Forum)
The petrol question for one - we've all got this the wrong way round. Surely the simple fact is that a maker who supplies vehicles which fail to operate properly on fuel supplied to the British Standard has got to mend his ways or suffer the consequences. It's simply unacceptable to be presented with vehicles whose engineers have failed to do their homework. I've never seen any hint of this issue raised abroad. -
Diesel, pertrol or LPG ? Which is best for the ' 20 Nov 2001 (Forum)
A 3 year old diesel tends to sell for about £1,000 more than an equivalent pertol model {that is they had the same list price when new.} Diesel costs 6 to 7p more per litre, potential fuel pump / turdo replacement costs to worry about, more frequent serviving etc., tend to be ex-fleet / rep cars, high miles. Pertol engines tend to last longer too? - less stressed? Seen a Volvo 940, { LPG converted} for sale - appeared to be a good price too. -
Underpowered Motas vs Kyoto 15 Aug 2001 (Forum)
In a car of that size and with the air con and all the toys - it drove like an absolute dog and drank fuel like G.Lacey on the Natch last Saturday night after Somerset had pulled the rug out from under Warwickshire CCC!! Is this the failing of the Company Car Tax mechanism in place now that encourages small engined yet "rep" sized cars to in order to achieve the lowest feasible tax band. -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - Two weeks (almost) review and update 18 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I'm going to try Super Unleaded after this tankful as the owners manual actually states the car will deliver optimum performance and economy on higher octane fuel. It will be interesting to see if the extra economy outweighs the extra fuel cost. Range is an easy 450 miles on the 70 litre tank. Will run this tank as low as I dare and brim it with V-Power. Overall. -
Renault Megane (1999 - 2002) - 01 1.6 inlet valves bent on test drive after newca 17 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I took it back again and they said that oil levels were ok and the idle/near cut out may be due to the car running out of fuel on them and some gunk may have got in the fuel injection system. They cleaned the idle control valve which they said was dirty. (probably caased in my opinion by all the smoke from the burning oil) and they emptied a can of fuel system cleaner in to my tank and told me 'try that' After 5-10 miles it still tries to cut and out during braking the oil and stop light flcikers when I brake It's back with them now and I am waiting for the next update. -
Alternative energy not viable for decade 16 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Spellings singled out the car as one area ripe for more conservation technology, noting that recent advances in fuel economy had been largely offset by gains in vehicle weight. He said the world would use fossil fuels to meet about 80 percent of its total energy demand in 2030, about the same proportion as today. -

Delivered to our door on it's wheels by a delivery driver - nice old boy, retired French Navy chief petty officer from the Brest depot about 80 miles away, he has had a Duster bi-fuel on order from a dealer since november 2021 - delivery quoted is July this year! Comes with alloys and 215/60/R17 Goodyear Vector all season tyres, and a steel spare with a 215/65/R16 Vector and a jack and wheelbrace, the poverty spec petrol ones come with just a bottle of gloop and a compressor, no jack or wheelbrace! -
Multiple - Thoughts / opinions on the listed car ads 2 Mar 2019 (Forum)
For the Avensis, I think the auto would be a better choice than the manual; one because of the better fuel economy of CVT and, two because of the EPB in the Avensis. With an auto transmission, I suppose you can avoid using the parking brake while stopped in traffic, and use the park mode on the auto transmission. -
Octavia Estate - Stick with petrol/diesel or change to hybrid? 26 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I will be moving from France to Portugal next year but with the recent news about phasing out diesel, then petrol, and the emphasis on hybrid & electric through much of Europe I've started to think ahead about a new car as fuel types can have an impact on import taxes etc, etc. I currently have 2 vehicles, a petrol Octavia estate and a diesel Ford Transit Custom Kombi and have now found that only a large estate type will be needed as the 9 seater Kombi is hardly used these days. -
Peugeot 307 2.0 - Peugeot 307 66 kw 2.0 HDI engine cutting off 18 May 2016 (Forum)
MAF error (I don't remember exact code) 2. P1138 (I don't remember the description) 3. P1614 (fuel pressure regulator valve) He said that I need fuel pressure regulator valve something like this I guess: donorspares.co.uk/images/Peugeotregulator.JPG But I am not sure, if this will help fix the problem.
