  • Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 00 2.5 immobiliser problems 13 Nov 2011 (Forum)
hi all i have a 2.5 turbo diesel that i am unable to start. i have checked on the forum and have seen the issues with regards to the heater panel. when checking mine it indeed does look like it has melted however when leavingt he panel off and trying to start the car it will not start. i am able to open the doors with my fob and when trying to start the car teh alram set light goes out. the car will then turn over and try to start however some times the fuel and heater guage etc will show up and then just go to as if not in use. the alarm set light will then come on and will flash. when the heater control panel is attached the alarm set light will not go out at all and after 3 or 4 failed attempts to start the car it will not turn oer at all.

  • hyundai getz 1.3 automatic - poor petrol consumption 25 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Our local trader has (reputedly) checked the car several times, but the answer is,as always, that they can find nothing wrong.  I have tried adding various injector cleaners to the fuel tank, but there has been no perceptible improvement.  It's getting a bit of a drag now, with the price of petrol continually rising, so any suggestions of tackling my problem would be much appreciated.
  • BMW 3-Series E30 (1983 - 1991) - Pierburg Carburettor for 318 M10 21 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Just to mention, the two jets on the very top of the carb do not seem to be working correctly as no fuel seems to ever come out of them. I'm not sure if this is a result of the vacuum pipes not being in their correct positions. Just for a description, it has a big white electric module on the left side if you are standing over the cylinder head on the drivers side.
  • Peugeot 307 sw hdi 120 2.0l 2002 - Peugeot 307 2.0 hdi 120 anti pollution fault 21 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Can anyone please help several months ago the unblock diesel filter warning came on followed by anti pollution fault resulting in the car going into 3000 rpm limp mode. I have checked that there is fuel additive still in its tank and also removed the particulate filter and checked it's condition which was quite clean I also have a reciept for this being changed 10000 miles ago. The strange thing is if I unplug the maf meter it still says anti pollution fault but no unblock diesel filter and also does not go into limp.
  • BMW - BMW Extended Fully Comp Warranty Scam 30 May 2011 (Forum)
I asked how this could have happened the reason given was lots of short drives!!!! or possibly bad fuel. . After much deliberation under goodwill they reduced the cost to £1200. I have information suggesting that the local BMW dealer has seen this problem on at least 10 BMW X3 and their technical department does not know why this is happening!
  • Nissan Micra K12 - wont start 15 May 2011 (Forum)
hi .when we had the bad snow over xmas my nissan micra 2003 m reg engine management light came on .a local machanic had a look at it for me .he said it was the engine chain .he turned it off for me .( anyway it came back on again )the car sounds quiet, not noisy at all.anyway started having problems with starting the car .it would start but you had to give it full throttle for it to catch and go...could take 10 times trying then on other days start first time . . but now wont start at all. the machanic rang a nissan friend to ask advice about it .anyway he said could be an immobiliser problem .the car turns over ok but wont fire up its just done 17.000 miles and was a good car till this happened .i cant afford to have unessassary work done on it just to find out its something else which alot of micras seem to have had done to solve this problem..i have checked fuses in engine compartment they are ok.took out the fuel fuse .didnt make any difference at all.advice on this welcome ..thanks
  • Peugeot (1996) 406 2LTR 16v Petrol LX - Peugeot 406 Idling/stalling problem 1 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I have owned this car from new and it has just rolled over 165,000 miles.A year ago it intermittently started to rev up and down erratically when started from cold, and once on the road it will momentarily falter/hesitate for a split second ,then run normally.Other times it will suddenly cut out while idling, but will start back up ok and then run fine.Other times the car will jerk as the power comes off and on ,and the revs will stay at 1200rpm if i engage neutral while coasting and will finally settle at 950rpm once the car has come to a halt. Now and again the fault light comes on and records "Irregular fuel delivery".I have so far renewed the following ,Throttle Potentiometer/Stepper Motor/Oxygen(Lamda) sensor/Throttle cable, reconditioned ECU. The Master Tech at my dealer has reset the "Auto-adaptives " for me .
  • KIA Ceed Sport 2L Diesel - Rapid Tyre Wear 20 Mar 2011 (Forum)
KIA told me to put ‘harder’ tyres on. I’m wondering which tyres you would advise for improved wear and improved fuel consumption. I bought the 2 litre as I tow a caravan. I’m wondering if it would be an advantage to replace the alloys with 15” steel wheels and tyres. These would be 195/65 R15. The idea is that I'd not not notice the potholes as much as I do with the 17" alloys, but am concerned that it may affect the handling.
  • Peugot 306 - Cooling fan / car runs when key removed 26 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Unsurprisingly the cooling fan came on again though and I expect when I return to the car the battery may well be completely gone. There's a few possibilities that seem to come up (fan sensor, fuel cutoff solenoid, wiring) but whatever I do it'll need to go to the garage (after a jump start) as if it's wiring there's a fire risk. Any ideas if I'm on the right track with diagnosis and how much it will cost to deal with?
  • ford fiesta 1.25 with zetec type engine - ford fiesta not starting!!! 12 Feb 2011 (Forum)

  • Peugeot XTDT - Lack of Power/ Smokey too 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I replaced the seal between the intercooler and inlet manifold and the 2 pieces of split pipe. I still have the problem..! Also if i remove the pipe that goes into the fuel pump from the intercooler it has alot of OIL in it..! I've removed the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler and i get a good flow of air and a nice turbo whistle, i've driven the car like it but its very flat...NO BOOST.
  • Motorway vs Town 8 Nov 2010 (Forum)
This tends to be mainly motorway drives at speeds of about 85 mph. At these revs (4k) i uses a fair amount of fuel. I reckon I do about 450 motorway miles a month. Weekdays -  I live in Bristol so its pretty slow moving congested driving. I tend to only drive around 350 miles a month during the week.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol - Astra - Misfire - loss of power 2 Nov 2010 (Forum)
At the garage I have had a compression test done and the results are correct, replaced the fuel rail, spark plugs, coil pack (first a new delphi and then a 2nd hand original manufacturers), it has gone to an auto-electrician and they found no problems. I have cleaned up the EGR valve to see if any performance gain but to no luck.
  • Ford Escort c.95 - Engine runs from cold, then soon stops. 17 Aug 2010 (Forum)
It then doesn't start , or runs very badly, until it has been left for a while, and then it runs and stops as before; this suggests  fuel starvation ( of course ?)  but I can't find any blockages. Most of the pipework is new, the tank has been cleaned, a new filter fitted and its holder cleaned; the only thing I can think is whether there is a small filter in the Lucas injector pump ( type F18.1TC1.10 ) body that is cunningly hidden from casual view.
  • BMW 3 series convertible 325ci - 2001 - BMW 3 series engine 'roughness' 11 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Do you have any advice on what it could be? Could it be the petrol injection jets, or anything to do with the fuel injection system, given that from the regularity of the ‘roughness’ of the engine running that it appears to be affecting only one cylinder?
  • you tell me - Interesting second car 9 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Because of the occasional use I want minimal depreciation, and because I might have to take one or two kids occasionally it has to have rear seats (shame).  Because of the once a week use I'd prefer something that's reliable, but the fuel efficiency doesn't matter too much.  I live in Scotland, with terrible pitted roads, so don't want anything too insane - no supercars!  Ideally don't want to spend more than £6-7k It'd be nice if I could get something that I really liked and was interesting, that had something other than being a tool.
  • Ford Focus - 2003 Ford Focus TDCi - Oil 28 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The garage say that they have serviced many makes and model of cars with this and have never had any problems and the EDGE oil is much better than say the 5W30 Magnatec that does meet the Ford spec and is recommended by Castrol when you put the vehicle details into their website. Should I worry about having EDGE 5W40 in my car? Will it cause damage? Will it affect fuel ecomony (thicker at running temp = engine working harder)? Should I request that they put in oil which meets the specification or am I getting too fussy?
  • 1994 BMW E36 M3 - White smoke (over fuelling?) 22 May 2010 (Forum)
Hey guys, Right my car starts fine and seems to idle and run ok until she starts warming up (roughly around the end of the red bar), when she seems a little down on power but also starts smoking from the exhaust. Upon parking up, she spits out plenty of smoke and even some petrol splashes and reeks of fuel. I've got a peake research tool and she's showing no error codes logged, the MAF is only a few months old, she runs on oldish NKG plugs (she doesn't like bosch). The other thing of note is I had a tiny rad leak a few weeks back and at the advice of a local RAC bloke on his break, I used rad weld.
  • Vauxhall Astra/Meriva pricing? 15 May 2010 (Forum)
The only two auto options are strangely the basic 1.6ltr which is underpowered and has poor fuel consumption and the most powerfull diesel engine which lists at a staggering 22K plus depending on the version.  Then last week I looked at the new Meriva hoping to find something in my budget, but again for the single auto diesel option a list price of over £20k My local vauxhall dealer which has had discouunts of over £3000 on the windscreens on base Astras (an all new model only on the market for 4 months!)
