Pug Radio Codes 10 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The car is an old but much loved 205 cabrio fitted with the original Clarion radio/cassette player. New battery fitted and needed to enter the radio code. Entered 1114 instead of 1113 (small buttons big fingers...) and the radio froze. -
Xsara gearchange lumpy 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Hiya, Noticed that the gearchange on my Xsara is getting a bit stiff - car is 8 years old now and as far as I know this has never been checked. No problems getting it into gear, just doesn't feel that slick. I am, somewhat embarrassingly, comparing it to a 2007 Ford Transit which is wonderful to drive. -
Auction find 24 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Today we went to look round the general household goods auction preview day in Christchurch. In the room with next weeks junk, sitting in all their glory, were two beautiful immaculate old Daimlers, I think from the 50's, plus one outside in the yard. All are according to the staff, in full working order .They are, sadly, being sold by an executor. Usually if they have a car or van it is from a bankruptcy and go for peanuts - wonder what will happen to these beauties. -

Mondeo Mk3 Petrol - why so cheap s/h ? 17 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I've narrowed my choice to replace my rather unreliable Octavia (broken air-con after 6 months - not covered under warranty - and an exhaust that rattles like a samba) with a used Mondeo Mk3 1.8 - at around 4 years old these are amazingly cheap at about £3.5k. Question is, why are they so cheap - is there something wrong with them ? They seem like such a good car ! -
Clio slow speed squeak 9 Jun 2006 (Forum)
At very low speeds (i.e. crawling in traffic in first gear) my Clio squeaks. This happens when the brakes are not in use. The car is 3 years old and has done 33k. I thought that it could be the wheel bearings. Perhaps it is too early for these to become worn and the noise is much more a squeak than a rumble. Any ideas as to what is wrong? -
Merc heat reflecting windscreen - type? 3 May 2006 (Forum)
A manager at work wants to use a Tom Tom device and the website states they will not work with athermic type heat reflecting windscreens. His car does have a heat reflecting windscreen but is it athermic? (Sorry if they are one and the same!) It's an E270 auto Avantgarde about 2 years old. Andrew -

Nissan X-Trail 2.5 22 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Moved out to the woods and need to change my car (an Insight btw). Anyone owns or spent time with a 2.5 X-Trail? Auto or Manual, I dont mind. 2yr old ones are good value at the dealerships. I should look at the dCI but have heard of reliability issues. -
Type-R is it worth it ? 22 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi to All, I'm really keen on the outgoing Honda Civic Type-R and made a saving this time last year when purchasing a Ford Focus 1.8 edge (£9.3k). Look forward to your thoughts! Nick -

Golf Mk2 - new or recon alternator? 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hello, It looks like part of my alternator is not functioning properly, but I may need to replace the whole part. Since my car is now quite old (13 years), will a reconditioned alternator be sufficient? If so, will a garage even fit one or will I have to buy new? Any advice much appreciated (probably going to ring my local garage tomorrow to have it looked at). -

Child allowed in front seat? 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
- Does anyone know if under-12 year olds can travel in the front passenger seat of the car, in Germany? (Even with a child seat fitted and seatbelt on?) I don't think it's allowed in France, and I'm not sure about the UK any more? I'm going on a long run up to Denmark next week and am thinking of driving overnight; my son will have more space up-front. -
Autobox on Volvo S80 7 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I am asking on behalf of my friend. He is going to get a 4-5 year-old S80 2.4SE (170ps). The question is how many gears does the autobox have? Who makes the autobox? How reliable is the autobox? Volvo service schedule requires ATF change every 50k. As the car will have near 100k on the clock, can it be reasonable to expect another 100k on its original box? -
scratched paintwork 11 May 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I have metalic gray paintwork on a two year old car, it has collected a few minor scratches / scuffmarks plus a passenger has just decided to push the door open to its full extent against a wall, and that has left scratch marks on the door edge, I live in the Eastbourne area, does anyone know how I can restore the paintwork, and take out one pea sized dent on the bonnet? -
A very light sentence... 21 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Story in my local rag yesterday: Lorry driver who turned his vehicle over on a bend whilst speeding, crushed a car coming the other way and killed the old chap driving it. He already had nine points for speeding offences, and the investigation into this crash found that he'd tampered with the limiter. He got 3 points and therefore a 28-day ban under the totting-up procedure.
