  • Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - 00 1.5 Loses Power in High Gears 7 Jan 2014 (Forum)
It starts and idles well, revs okay in neutral, feels slightly sluggish in second gear, noisy in third but in fourth and fith gear the engine looses all power as soon as I press the accelerator peddle. I've had something similar in an old car and the fault was the coil pack. This was easy to test with a multimeter. Does anyone know how to test the coils on these fuel injection cars? The coil sits directly above the spark plug. So basically: Has anyone else had similar problem?
  • Renault Laguna Coupe - Help needed after test drive 1 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I am thinking of buying a Laguna Coupe - 5 years old - 33k - 3 previous owners. Everything looks ok. Slight concern following test drive - feels a bit sluggish between 3rd/4th/5th gears although nothing dramatic. Also, oil looks a bit dirty and water in bottle is a bit 'tea coloured'.
  • Ford Focus - Merc SLK - Part ex owned to lease? Unbiased opinions sought 31 Jan 2013 (Forum)
This includes other CC and OD debt, previously was paying £225 a month. So, for the point of this say I am paying £200 a month for the car as new finance is significantly cheaper. I think the car is worth somewhere in the region of 5-5.5k privately but could be less. Only going down in value (see my bias lol). I am thinking of selling to fund a two year lease on an brand new SLK for 24 months.
  • Mazda Mazda 5 7-str (2005 - 2010) - 06 2.0 TCS/DSC error 8 Aug 2012 (Forum)
On top of this, it is not possible to bye a used TCS/DSC modul from a reged car. Cause the modul is programed and has a unic code for each car. According to Mazda. Kalle Denmark
  • Volvo V40 2002 - Life saver 7 Feb 2012 (Forum)
The chap then fiddled with the bulbs, corrected the fault and followed me for 5 miles to make sure the fault did not reoccur. Shortly after I continued driving I passed a police car whom I am sure would not have been quite so helpful. It was pitch black. The chap was about 30 years old and had red hair. I wish I had taken his name as he quite possibly averted a bad accident.
  • Astra G 1.6 8v estate - The cost of motoring 12 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I’m quite good at keeping financial records. For anyone interested, this is what my last 2 cars cost me per mile. Both were Astra G 1.6 8v estates. Both were purchased with low mileage, at less than a year old, from car supermarkets. I did about 44,000 miles in each. I used the first for 4 years, the 2nd for 6.
  • Ford Fiesta - Timing Belt change on 51 plate Zetec SE 1.25. 15 Jul 2011 (Forum)
The car's now 10 years old and has just hit 80,000 miles. The other month I changed the auxiliary belt, the belt that drives the pums and alternator. Should I be changing the timing belt now or wait until the car hits 100,000 miles?
  • Volvo V70 2002 model - Gear Selection Problem (only when cold) 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I have found that 1st and Reverse gear can be difficult to engage in cold weather, particularly after the vehicle has been standing . I have noted the comments on HJ's Car Review page and suspect that the cause may well be the old and sticky grease on the gearbox input shaft. Requires the gearbox removal, cleaning and replacing with new grease. (plus a new clutch while it is in bits) I have been looking on the net and found a reference to a Volvo Techical Service Bulletin no #4347 issued to all Volvo dealter in November 2005.
  • The damage one faulty glow plug can do. 6 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Is there anyone out there that thinks there is any mileage in apportioning blame on the maker of the glow plug and trying for compensation and any ideas on the best way to proceed if there is? The car itself has a full service history, less than five years old and less than 45K on the clock. Including investagtion work by the garage I am looking at nearly £3000 to get the thing back on the road.
  • MAROONED - Will a small 4x4 help beat the snow? - Second-hand reliable and cheap small 4x4 12 Nov 2010 (Forum)
So, this year I was wondering about buying an old 4x4 to run through the winter months. I was thinking about something like a year 2000 Suzuki Jimny. Also wondered about a Fiat Panda 4x4 (although I believe the all-wheel drive version starts at 2005).
  • Ibiza - Fiesta or Ibiza? Any recs? 30 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I have driven an older shape Fiesta 1.3 and found that was nice to drive and felt it had enough go in it..  Had a couple of the old style Corsas as loan cars and they were hideously underpowered even the 1.4. Will not consider anything by Mazda or Renault.
  • BMW 5-Series E60 - Diesel Dilemma 29 Mar 2010 (Forum)
In desperation I changed from filling up with diesel at my local Supermarket to a BP station, putting 2/3 tank of regular diesel to fill up. Almost immediately the car is running smoother, not quite as well as 3 months ago, but is this because I still had 1/3 of a tank of previous fuel. Will continue to run out the old fuel and top up with the BP and see what transpires.
  • vauxhall vectra - vic check without insurance 27 Mar 2010 (Forum)
My car (10 yrs old) was involved in a minor accident a month ago but was written off (catorary c) because of the main dealers huge estimate. I was able to get the car back and had it repaired, but  now i cant get it re-insured.
  • Need something more comfortable 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
It would appear that the slightly off set driving position of my Megane (2000 model) is aggravating an old back problem I thought I had long since got over. Specialist suggests changing the car before further damage is caused. However finances at present are not fantastic, and realistically I am looking at sub £2k territory.
  • Man breaks 15 laws in 11 minutes [Duplicate Post] 21 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Man breaks 15 laws in 11 minutes A driver has confounded Swiss police by committing 15 traffic violations in just over 10 minutes, officials say. The 47-year-old initially raced past an unmarked police car in heavy rain at 160 km/h (100mph) before weaving close to other cars and the road's kerb. The serial offender clocked up further offences for speeding, driving on the hard shoulder, running a set of red lights and failing to stop for police.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 engine surge/high revs at idle 12 Oct 2009 (Forum)
For example if i am going 40 mph and stop at lights dip the clutch or flick into neutral the revs will rise to about 2000 rpm and after a few seconds settle down at 1000 rpm. I have put a new iac valve and speed sensor in the car but the car still surges. I have had a vacuum hose replaced recently by a mechanic who said that the old one had collapsed, when he was installing it he pulled away and took it to the boss of the garage and seemed to show him something, is there a chance that the hose was the wrong type?
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2001 HDi intermittent lack of power 10 Oct 2009 (Forum)
My 306 HDi has suffered a fault with the clutch position sensor 5 months ago. The garage replaced the switch and all was well, for a while. Now it has gone back to its old ways of struggling to pull at all, and i suspect it is in "limp" mode. I have just tried linking out the switch with a piece of wire which i thought would give me a fully performing car again, but this has not worked.
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Great car, pity about the dealer 25 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I collected my new Mazda6 on Wednesday from a main dealer in Berkshire, a member of the Co-op. Although it was a new for old on a total loss, I had to...
  • Antifreeze - a cautionary tale 31 May 2009 (Forum)
Apart from the obvious don't drink it . . . . . . Somewhere along the line I have had 2 different types of antifreeze mixed in my car. Don't know the names of them TBH but the one in the car was the new pink long life type apparently. When I got a coolant change some 18 months or so ago it would appear the old style 'blue' stuff was used and the system hadn't been flushed.
  • Got my Aircon working again. 27 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Super service, lots of info about A/Cs. I needed a new compressor to replace the knackered / siezed old one. The price was very reasonable and labour charges most acceptable. Now I have a "cool" car that drives soooo much quieter. I have no association with the company and am just a very happy customer.
