    . The gearbox was replaced by the new semi-dry sump, five-speed transaxle, and the new racer was equipped with cast-iron Girling disc brakes with groundbreaking light alloy calipers. DBR1/1 debuted at the 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans at the hands of Tony Brooks and Reg Parnell, retiring after more than 22 hours with engine bearing failure. The car’s impressive list of Works entries that followed reads like a who’s who of endurance racing.

    The car was originally an export model but returned to the UK where it was converted to RHD and repairs to its bodywork were carried out. The four wheel disc braking system has also been overhauled with all discs replaced and the car has been re-wired with £4,000 recently spent. Spares, tools, jack and handbook are included. Note that the 3.4 litre engine is not the original.

    That said, the Special Edition model we drove here has leather seats (each set individually numbered) although we actually prefer the standard vRS sports seats which were light grey fabric with black inserts. The Special Edition also gets red brake callipers and came exclusively in the Race Blue metallic paint. And the final big attraction of the Fabia vRS is fuel economy. Thanks to the 1.9 TDI engine it’s capable of a claimed 53.3mpg on average – a good figure now and an amazingly frugal level for a hot hatch in 2003.

    A 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Styled by the great Raymond Loewy, this fibreglass bodied, disc braked sports coupe was offered with the option of a supercharger and thus equipped was timed at 196mph on Bonnevile Salt Flats. The car on offer has a 4-speed manual transmission and in road trim was originally rated as capable of 168mph.

Electronically, the complete data acquisition system is integrated into the TFT full colour dash display.  Aerodynamically the car boasts a highly efficient rear wing, offering 40kg of downforce at 125mph, with the addition of a roof scoop similar to the one on the current Clio Cup.
