Accident: not my fault... 26 Aug 2003 (Forum)
My two nephews had the same happen. The older one had three middling knocks in his first six months of driving, none were his fault. The younger had a small knock, then managed to roll his car (luckliy he was unhurt) when an artic pulled into his lane on a dual carriageway. They claimed, with their parents support, that none of the incidents were their fault. -
Ford Focus Idle Problem?? 22 Aug 2003 (Forum)
How long does the battery need disconnecting? How should i drive it afterwards? Thanks for the anticipated help. -
Biodiesel Availability 13 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Whilst driving near York recently I came across a small notice advertising Biodiesel at 65.9 pence per litre. As I needed to fill up I went in and bought some, on a trial basis. This is apparently 100% Biodiesel made from waste oils. -
306 Side Airbag light 11 May 2003 (Forum)
The side airbag warning light seems to be lit every so often. It seems to only light up when the car is cold. If you drive the car for a while then stop and then restart the car it seems to go out. But it seems to coming on more often in the last few days. I've only had the car for over a month, and its gone out of warranty. -
Intermittent ABS fault 26 Apr 2003 (Forum)
It will never reset itself if you continue driving. The car has had this fault from new and the VW agents have been unable to find the fault or find anything in the memory. The problem is the fault is getting worse, it used to be once a month but it is now every trip. -
Shogun Power Steering 12 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I started steering and straight away noticed the steering was heavy, it was obvious I had lost the power steering, got it off the roundabout, turned the radio off and it became apperent the engine was not running! This explains the loss of inicators and the loss of PST, the gear lever was still in Drive (auto). I have played about with the car on my drive, cant find a problem now.... any ideas?? -
Do you see what I see 1 Nov 2002 (Forum)
The chief culprits are old women (no surprise there) and middle aged business men. One 'gent' even threatened to report me because I took exception to him driving on the pavement, (after getting out of his car to move a cone) and then almost running over a paramedic who was knelt ddown dealing with a casualty. Oh well.Only four more days and nights till my next days off. -
Ford Focus ECU Problem? 19 Oct 2002 (Forum)
After a few more seconds they returned to correct readings. 2. Coming back from work this evening, I turned into my drive in 2nd gear as usual, and it became very jerky - almost kangarooing up the drive. I changed into first gear, with a resultant complete lack of power - the engine became almost silent, the oil light came on briefly, despite that I was applying a little pressure to the accelerator. -
Who is David Hardcastle? 14 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Government adviser David Hardcastle (wonder if he holds a driving licence and who is he anyway?) says that the government should agree to implement road charging, in the Sout-East at least, within 2 years to prevent grid lock. I am obviously missing something here! -
Vectra 2.2 MPFI 9 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Since I am only in Brazil for a further 5 weeks, they've kind of gone off the idea of giving me anything nice, so they've given me the Vectra. I've only been driving it for two days, but why does everyone hate them ? Ok, its not a luxury car, but its well equipped and has got plenty of go. Its quite fun on the windy beach road through the hills and it seems to go around corners well, it seems pretty good on the highway, and its easy to drive in town. -
Short run, save the lecture please 18 Apr 2002 (Forum)
At this point what was the correct thing to do, (a) take it for a short run (but long enough to bring it up to temp) (b) take it for a long run, (c) drive gently (d) drive hard. Which combination of the above?? Also is there a correct procedure to start a car in this condition to minimise the damage caused by the unburnt fuel in the Cat? -
Light Steering 7 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The wife's 1998 Hyundai Accent (now that's a model that doesn't get much mention on this site!) is suffering from unusally light steering. I don't drive it very often, so cannot pinpoint when it first occoured. I thought it might go away when new tyres were fitted, but no, so I had my usual garage give it a test drive. Their description was it seemed as if the speed sensitive part of the power steering was disconnected, but as it has a standard power rack that was impossible. -
What happened next..? 14 Dec 2001 (Forum)
You've all probably been in the situation where you witness something happening as you drive along, and never see how it turns out. A couple of years ago on my way to work I was driving in slow-moving traffic near my home. The vehicle in front of me was a builder's Transit van full of workmen, most of them having sandwiches and a cup of tea. -

Renault Clio - Stereo 27 Dec 2021 (Forum)
Daughter is driving a 52 reg Clio as a first car, complete with dead stereo. Does anyone know if a later, single DIN, unit from a Renault will pair to the existing wiring. It’d be good to have a unit to have Bluetooth compatibility, not so much to use hands free as to stream music.
