'01 Ford Mondeo 1.8 130k miles - missfire, speedo, instruments etc 26 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Turning the load off, and the mis recovers after a few seconds. the speed drops to zero at the same time as the miss starts. Can be sat on the drive to bring on the fault too. First time it happened, an ingition coil failure code set. this sets occasionally but not consistently. Sometimes, just driving along, with unnecessary electrics on, the speedo drops to zero the miss starts and performance is lost. -

The only problem with winter tyres is... 1 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I have the winters on steels so am currently running a summer tyre on the LF and a winter on the RF. Very far from ideal and quite sketchy to drive. I think I may have two choices, 1. get the same tyre (Nokian WR G2) with a different load rating (94H instead of 91H) 2. get a different tyre (say a Conti winterContact or Dunlop wintersport) Having spent the day driving with two radically different tread patterns I am not keen on having two different tyre designs, so how much difference does it make using a 94H instead of a 91H? -
Rejecting a New Car 30 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Hello all, I bought a new car from a dealer 200 miles away in early December. On the drive home with less than a 100 miles on the clock the engine management light came on. The RAC came out, could tell there was a fault but couldn't read it. However in consultation with the manufacturer cleared it for the trip home. -
Nissan Micra S 54 - Short brake pedal travel 12 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Small company I bought from (one man band) says his mechanic is on holiday for a week and anyway he feels he would have adjusted brake if possible while doing maintenance on it, but suggest I ring him on his return, which I will do. Meanwhile as I have a lot of driving to do I wonder if anyone has any suggestions to improve this bearing in mind my husband and I are not particularly mechanically minded, or is this something I will have to live with? Must say I am not enjoying driving at the moment, and mistakenly thought this was something that would loosen with time! -
Nissan Primera III - P11 code P0011 & P0340 (2002 1.8 ) 28 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Car does not rattle, do not suspect chain problem. Scenario: start car, after about 10 secs start to drive off, 10 yards down road, light on,car lurches forward and down as if to stop/stall, throwing you forwards with a positive jolt, after this split second symton ,light stays on and she drives all day no problems what so ever, oil level is fine, any views greatly appreaited. -
Rover 25 (1999 - 2005) - 03 1.6 --losing water 10 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Theres a sludgy, brownish deposit on the inside walls of the coolant expansion tank, but it doesnt smell of, nor appear to contain oil. He drives about sixty miles on an average weekday. Could we still be looking at early stages of HG failure, or might there be some other reason for the water loss? Cheers in advance. -
Use of roundabouts 8 Sep 2010 (Forum)
No collision took place and assuming we both stick to our intended paths no collision would take place but I have noticed recently and increase the number of drivers willing to enter a roundabout ultimately without giving way to those already into their manoeuvre even though they have no intention of taking the same exit. It can make for uncomfortable driving when this happens because I cannot see their signal and for all I know they are about to drive straight out in front of me. All because they are not willing to wait a few seconds more until the roundabout is clear. -
Peugeot 407 2.0 HDi Diesel SW SV - Intermitent problem idles up and down on its own 1 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Basically seems to be two faults one is when it reaches 3000 revs it sound very noisy like exhaust blowing and some vibration. Gets over 3000 and the nosi seems to die away..Any thoughts would be fantastic.. Also drives fine sometimes however I started the car today and while idling the car would drop down revs then lift the revs back up on its own? And while driving the car juddered like it was going to run out of fuel then when I got to the lights it stalled.. -
Omega 3.0 V6 - mystery coolant leak 13 Jul 2010 (Forum)
My Neighbours \'94 Omega Elite 3.0 saloon (auto) has developed a curious coolant leak; He tops up the coolant in the morning when cold and drives to work (15 miles suburban), no overheating or coolant level warning lights. He checks the coolant after 2-3 hours - the level\'s fine. He drives home in the evening (same route, same traffic conditions), when invariably the coolant level warning light comes on, but no engine overheating. -
Ford Fiesta Mk4 1.3 1998 - Buckled wheel, or bent axle? 3 Jun 2010 (Forum)
For the last few weeks I've noticed when driving my steering has been trying to not drag, but jerk to the left...... If you drive forward and leave the steering wheel alone it will jerk to the left at short intervals, with the intervals getting shorter the faster you go, however when you go over the magic 70mph barrier, it seems to really calm down and isn't much of an issue at all........ -
Peugeot 306 HDI - Cutting out problem 18 May 2010 (Forum)
Hi, My 306 HDi Meridian '99 (X Reg) has recently started to occaisionally cut out whilst driving. It's ok when driving around town but it seems it only occurs when it picks up speed or change gear at around 2500rpm and above it just cuts out. The engine management light comes on and the car generally starts again without a problem. -
Which reliable and economical car under 3K 29 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I'm fairly certain I want another diesel after my current 1.9D Xantia which has been great (in terms of fuel) considering it cost 400 quid. I usually drive alone but often carry quite a bit of stuff so I don't want to go any smaller. I am 6'3" though so I need headroom - and the more upright the driving position the better as I do get back trouble sometimes. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.6 Does this fuel consumption sound correct? 8 Feb 2010 (Forum)
stop? the Focus continues to drive forward, albeit very slowly, when in 1st gear without me touching any peddles ? all previous car I have had would of stalled. Does this all sound right or do you think I might have a problem? -
Corporate image and a cherished registration 6 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Net result, drivers of cars from that manufacturer even at a corporate level can appear to conform to their apparent stereotype.... (and I drive one of their excellent machines too). Or perhaps the boss was late for an important meeting ? Perhaps better to go for a low key standard reg if you're going to drive "ostentatiously" ? -
Classic car insurance - does it work with no NCB 25 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Have been mulling over getting something like a reasonable nick BMW 5 series from early 1990s or similar Merc 260E as a sunday afternoon drive type car as I progress into middle age. something not necessary quick but very smooth and relaxing to drive. So is it going to be daft to call up a classic car broker as effectively a newbie wanting a limited mileage policy - is the idea that classic car insurance is only cheap if you have an insurance history and regular use of a normal car elsewhere? -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 2.0TDi Engine keeps cutting out. 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi there I have engine problems as when I start the engine from cold and drive along and then the engine will cut out when I apply the brakes. It seems to happen when I get to about 40 mph and start braking, I notice the rev dial drops to below 1 and then it normally comes back up to 1. -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 02 1.6 Overheating of front left brake disc 7 Oct 2009 (Forum)
When driving my Zafira it slowly came to a halt with smoke coming from the front left wheel. The wheel rim was too hot to touch. A mechanic collected car next day and replaced brake caliper, hose, disc and pads. -
Hands-free mobile phones are deadly 26 Sep 2009 (Forum)
The study by the Transport Research Laboratory found slower reaction times for drivers using hands-free mobiles than for those who were above the legal drink drive limit. The tests included getting motorists to brake suddenly while driving at 70mph. Compared to the stopping distance of a driver in normal circumstances, the over-the-limit driver took a further 13 feet before coming to a standstill. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.2 dash rattle 26 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. Ive got a dash rattle I cant seem to find. It starts driving over rough roads or raised lines etc ,speed bumps dont do it. When your driving the rattle appears to be coming from the os dash top, right in the corner. Its quite a loud rattle. it sounds like a plastic container with a marble in it.
