  • Audi A6 2.5 TDI locking problem 29 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Infuriatingly, and quite frequently when turning a sharp corner or riding over a sharp bump in the road, the doors suddenly unlock and all interior lights come on, and there are a lot of interior lights. If the car is left in this condition the battery will just flatten. To get the system working again I need to turn the engine off and remove the key, open the drivers door and lock the car one or two times with the remote key. When the interior lights go off it is fine.
  • 02 Passat Interior Water Leak 20 Jul 2007 (Forum)
First it was the rear passenger and now its swapped over to the rear drivers. I have tried all the usual diagnosis mentioned on other websites (taken battery out and cleaned drain holes, sealed around pollen filter etc) but still to no avail. It has now got to a point where we will sell the car as it is so frustrating I sprayed the hose on the windscreen and doors yesterday and could not detect any water leak.
  • Tesla Motors electric car 0-60 in 4 sec! 7 May 2007 (Forum)
A straight electric with regenerative braking and a 250hp motor, I think it heralds the way of the near future because of its simplicity compared to hybrids. I think new rechargeable battery development encouraged by the needs of laptop computers is the key. How about 0 - 60 in 4 sec, top speed of around 130 mph, 200 mile plus range and Lotus handling for $100,000? The first year's production has been sold out and they are taking orders for 2008.
  • Toyota Yaris 1.0 GLS diagnostic socket 5 May 2007 (Forum)
One thing I did find was the fuel cap had not been tightened - tightened it but am unsure whether the fault should clear on its own. Could anybody advise on how to reset this, thought of disconnecting battery but thought there could be an easier way like holding left ear whilst humming the dambusters tune. Apart from taking the vehicle to dealers could anybody also recommend a fault code reader for my vehicle and so I could find the actual fault causing the MIL to come on.
  • Ford Focus Instruments 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
This hasn't had any ill effects and it didn't happen all the time. I've checked the earths (that I can find!) and put in a new battery which has made no difference. Now today the car has done this twice whilst actually driving and all the warning lights come on momentarily as well (which had never happened before). There's no effect on driveability and the engine ran as normal when it happened.
  • VW Van won't start, then won't stop! 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I hate reversing, into my albeit quiet cul de sac, because of kiddies and always drive out nose first. Two days ago it would not start...plenty of juice in battery, so I thought (illogically) that maybe air in fuel line because of the unusual way the van was positioned, and it prefers the view across the Ribble to facing garage doors! Fuel gauge still registering just above red sector, but no harm in emptying my emergency 5 litres in.
  • Disconnect alarm - '95 Passat 1.9TD 10 Dec 2006 (Forum)
After accidentally shorting out the electrics, sorting a problem with the starter, this has activated the alarm - Now I can't switch it off! I've tried disconnecting/reconnecting battery; and have removed the control unit, but engine then immobilised, so had to replace it! Can I disconnect power and/or inactivate alarm, whilst leaving vehicle operative ? I can't even find where the alarm takes it's power from, it's not from the fusebox!
  • 06 Picasso, software issue or feature? 3 Jul 2006 (Forum)
After having a 1000 mile first service I discovered that the remote locking would not function until approx 8s after turning the ignition off and removing the key. ( The battery symbol remained alight during this time). Some Ign (inc radio and elect windows)operated accessories continue to operate during this time. After a 150mile trip today the car has now reverted to its original behaviour!
  • Renault Scenic gone crazy!!! 5 Apr 2006 (Forum)
The car had obviously gone into "limp home" mode and wouldnt rev over 3,000, nor would it go over 35mph, i got home and disconected the battery for about half an hour and then reconnected it. I started the car up, and there were no faults showing! I took my son to football this evening, as i got back into the car to go home, the following warnings came up, "ASR and ESP Failure" "Passenger Airbag deactivated" and "Parking Brake failure"!!!!!
  • Kangoo diesel starting 30 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The really strange thing is that once started, it will stop & start all day no problem, but as soon as it is left to get really cold, ie overnight, it will not go again. I have checked the ecu and other connections I can find, and put a new battery on, as I wondered if it was low current to the stop solenoid, but no difference. I also thought as to whether or not it could be an immobiliser problem which is preventing the stop solenoid pulling off.
  • 306 1.9TD changed the fuel pump-Problems 24 Jan 2006 (Forum)
(I must have nackered the thread) The new pump was fitted by a a mechanic friend, new timing belt the works, but the car will not start first time in the morning. New glow plugs have been fitted as well. It takes so long to start up that the battery is begining to go flat. The pump is slightly different to one that came out, may have been from an older model and the grommit looks to have been removed and put back in succesfully and so may have been 'turned up'.
  • Sterling 827 SLi, 1991 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
It also says that for cars with a converter, the timing cannot be adjusted manually (the control boxes are different). Also, I was told that timing and other settings may need to be re-set whenever the battery is disconnected. Hopefully, setting the timing will correct a long time over-heating problem that I have had with the car, or, at the very least, will eliminate the timing as related to the problem.
  • Saxo indicators stay on 19 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The near side indicators all stay on with or without the key in the ignition. I have tried: - Leaving battery disconnected for 24hrs - Changing Flasher relay - Checking and re-checking all fuses - Cleaning and inspecting all earths - Wiggling any and every wire/connector/component. - Repeatedly arming/disarming the alarm I should point out that this does have the factory fit alarm and this does flash the indicators when arming so I am assuming this to be the culprit.
  • 306 D Turbo facing electric meltdown? 15 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I think thats all of the problems, Now I know that this sounds like a faulty earth, but where is is located? I have cleaned up what i believe to be two in the engine compartment near the battery tray. This may be of some help for advice, when you push the cigarette lighter in the clock dims and brightens. Any Ideas? Thanks Again for previous help and lets see if we can kick this one into touch aswell.
  • Renault 5 GT Turbo wont start 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
On examination we found there were no sparks at plugs and no power to the petrol pump. Have tried pump across battery and it is fine. Have checked that power is getting thro' the ignition switch in ignition position, OK. Have tried 3 seperate electronic ignition units still no sparks. Have replaced all the relays beside and behind the fuse box, one at a time also another relay tucked up behind the dash and the ignition relay beside the ignition unit all to no avail.
  • Citroen C3 mud flaps 3 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Apparently Citroen UK are working on delivering a software fix through the National Grid via a standard mains battery charger to all those C3 owners whose mud flap drain holes aren't big enough. Until the fix is on general release, we'll just have to clean them manually;-) Hawkeye ----------------------------- Stranger in a strange land
  • Citroen C5 verses Passat 5 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi I'am new to this but wanting to share my car experiance's 30years of driving Ford's Vauxhall's Citreon's Passat .The last car The Passat I have at present 1.9 diesel TDI best 40 mpg is this the cost of a Turbo (speeding ticket machine) take it off and give my the confort and economy of the C5 made by Volks Wagen after 2 1/2years and 60,000 miles with a C5 HDI 50mpg driven head with smooth ride the only reason for not returning to Citreon (100% useful electronics at launch they said)was the self leveling suspension making the car comfortable when locked and the battery running down as a result of this. If the C5 had been of the same build quality as the Xantia it whould not have had any competitors .I guess the same air polution that helped the Magane come to market most have had a connection with Citreon and put a spanner in the works .When's Jerry going to ask high mileage drivers to test new cars and take speed out of the judgement .
  • 205 starter motor 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
, but anyway) then on the third try the starter worked absolutely normally - not slow cranking - normal speed. The car started this morning and then again this evening totally normally. I checked the battery leads were tight - about all I could do due to the arctic weather and not having a garage. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful.
  • Peugeot 406 DT strange prob 9 Nov 2003 (Forum)
He said there wasn't much he could do, knocked the labour charge of the bill and that was the last we saw of him. One week later my dad tried to start the car but it wouldn't turn over. He thought the battery was flat so I lent him a charger. After a day on charge the engine still wouldn't turn over so I went round to give a jump start. Still the engine would not turn, the starter clicked and the engine seemed to turn a fraction.
  • Pug 106 cutting out 31 Oct 2003 (Forum)
After 5 or 6 attempts, it caught and started, but only a few yards down the road it started 'chugging' and then cut-out, unable to restart at the time due to being late for work and so therefore used a different car. I could give a few suggestions as to the initial starting problem, spark plugs old, battery knackered etc, but i wouldn't have thought either of these would cause it to cut-out again after a successful start? I wasn't there myself so im only going on his description of the problem. Any ideas?
