Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2004 130 tdci - engine temp inconsistent 16 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Over the last few months I have noticed that the temp gauge will only register a normal temp (midway on the gauge about 90 degrees) when the car is driven hard (i.e. climbing a hill) and when I drive at a more gentle pace or coast down a hill the temp gauge drops to about 65 to 70 degrees. I suspected the thermostat and have replaced it with no change in symptoms. I am now beginning to suspect the water pump is not working although the power steering is ok, and this is used to drive the water pump by a spline shaft connection. -
Are some drivers now unaware of punctures? 13 Apr 2008 (Forum)
It made me wonder how long he had been losing pressure in that tyre, not noticing the different feel, or for that matter the smoke. Are some people now driving without awareness of tyres, punctures, pressure loss etc? A few years ago, I also saw someone in the city driving slowly on the wheel rim, (flat tyre flapping) looking unaware and unconcerned. -
Volvo - 00 T5 Auto Box Problem 9 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Then on the dashboard, the Brake warning light, Traction control light ,ABS light and ENGINE light stay on and it says "brake system failure" on the trip computer. I started to drive the car and everything seem Ok. The car pull well and gearbox kicked down as it should. After 10 mins drive and engine got warm, the gearbox started to play up. First was the cluck noise when engaged the gear, then gear change became very rough. -
Sloping windscreens 7 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I certainly never worry about it, I'm more worried about my safety. When I'm walking I always look before crossing the road, and when I'm driving I wouldn't run somebody over unless they suddenly steped in front of me. However, when I'm walking the number of vehicles that go up on the pavement is shocking, but when I'm driving I stay on the roads anyway. -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 2004 2.0TDI- noise issue 2 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Hello, Help please Just recently bought the car and whilst its still under dealer warranty would like advice on a noise I can best describe as a heavy dud dud dud. This only occurs when first starting the car from cold and when taking up the drive i.e. letting out the clutch which is why I did not notice it during the test drive. Yes I know I should have been the one who started it from cold but I 've already beat myself up over that. There's no noise when gently blipping the throttle after it starts: its only when try to get the car moving and only initially. -
Motorcyclist on a death wish. 21 Jan 2008 (Forum)
As most of you will have experienced yesterday was a terribly wet day especially where I was. I was driving on the inside lane of the Al dual carriageway northbound approaching Alnwick in Northumberland. I was well back from the traffic ahead as there was spray affecting visibility. I was overtaken (and given a bit of a fright at the time) by a motorcyclist riding at the fastest speed I have ever witnessed,. -
KIA Sedona (1999 - 2006) - 52 - 3.0 CDi SE, Intermitent power loss. 8 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I have recently had the injectors removed and new injector seals put in and then the original injectors put back, this is because of a tinking noise. When I collected the car back it drives OK for most of the time but every now and then the accelerator just stops working, the engine still runs but whilst driving I just lose power and the temperature guage goes up. This only last for a very short while and the temp guage goes own and the throttle kicks back in. -
Really Long Distance Lorry driver & Overtime 7 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Saw this on the BBCwebsite:- A haulier has been stopped on the A90 in Fife after driving almost non-stop through Europe for 14 days. The man, who was from Azerbaijan, was driving a 44-tonne articulated lorry and was stopped in a random check. Tachograph readings showed the only significant stop by the driver was when the truck entered the UK by ferry. -
Nuisance Vespas 15 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I live on a main road, at a T junction facing the mouth of the 'downstroke'. I usually enter my drive by coming up the 'downstroke' and crossing both lanes of the main road to enter my drive. Its relatively painless, as traffic usually slows down to let me cross. Yesterday, there appears to be a rally of Vespa style scooters. -
What car for a new driver BUT also an old lady? 12 Oct 2007 (Forum)
The car MUST be an automatic and due to the fact of her self-confessed limited confidence, the car must be small and very easy to drive. She will probably keep the car for at least 10 years so depreciation isn?t really an issue, purchase price( £6-7k) and reliability are the key. So, automatic, small, easy to drive, reliable, what would you go for? -
Priority road v kamikaze drivers 14 Sep 2007 (Forum)
can anyone tell me what is the correct behaviour at these "priority over other road user" traffic islands as I find sometimes the driver who has priority driving straight at me as i exit the island as they have clearly been driving well above 30mph or accelerate. Is the rule that the priority user should not have to brake or lift off at all. Or should you wait if the non priority driver is clearly going to arrive in the "chicane" well before the priority driver does. -

Variable Speed Limts - M25 and M42 17 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Or are they on some of them only. Or perhaps none at all. The reason I ask is that I have cause to drive through the M42 stretch quite a lot, mostly later at night when the motorway is quite quiet and I always seem to be the only driver on there who worries about sticking to the limit. I drive through watching the other cars whizz past me without a care and think that either there must be an awful lot of points flying around or they know something I don't. -
Do you believe in risk compensation? 5 Jul 2007 (Forum)
There's an introduction here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risk_compensation If you think it's real in other aspects of life, do you think it exists in driving too? I'm not advocating a spike in the centre of the steering wheel here, but do you think the widely advertised NCAP 5* rating and dozen airbags makes for a worse driver? I ride a bicycle, a motorbike, drive an old car and a new car and to come absolutely clean here, I find that my level of attention changes depending what I'm in / on. -
Punto emissions 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Figures were (First figures are today, followed by last two years as a comparison): Fast idle CO - 0.21% (max < 0.30%) / 2006 - 0.20% / 2005 - 0.13% HC - 78ppm (max < 200ppm) / 2006 - 52ppm / 2005 - 38 ppm Lambda - 1.03 (0.97 - 1.03) / 2006 - 1.01 / 2005 - 1.00 Natural idle CO - 0.15% ( drive it and always just before the MOT. Usually run on Shell. Air filter and plugs OK. Had HGF last year and severe overheating (my wife thought it was making a funny noise, but kept on driving!). It got so hot the plastic timing belt cover melted. -
Mondeo uneven tyre wear 18 May 2007 (Forum)
The tyres had worn unevenly- both the front tyres had worn on the inner edges far more than the outer and so I asked the garage to check the tracking. They came back and said the tracking seemed fine. When driving the car seems quite 'jittery' when going over bumps, manhole covers etc, and I am sure there is a problem somewhere. It doesn't drive like other Mondeos I have driven before, and I find myself trying to avoid bumps etc that I can't feel in our other car. -
Focus TDCi economy... 12 May 2007 (Forum)
Whilst that's certainly an improvement on the 33mpg I used to get from my 1.6 mk1 Focus, it barely covers the extra cost of diesel fuel, let alone inital outlay. Is this normal for around town? I've wondered if it's my driving style: I'm driving it so that I change gears whenever it's above 2,000rpm, except possibly first where it reaches 3,000 (often too soon). could it be that the engine isn't run-in enough yet, having not quite reached 15,000 miles yet? -

320cd / 330cd convertible questions.... 7 Apr 2007 (Forum)
And how long roughly do tyres last ? Do BMW diesel engines sound as rough as other manufacturers engines (not been on a test drive) ? Any other information would be great, have been reading many threads over the last hour, but not my questions have been covered. Cheers
