can anyone tell me what is the correct behaviour at these "priority over other road user" traffic islands as I find sometimes the driver who has priority driving straight at me as i exit the island as they have clearly been driving well above 30mph or accelerate. Is the rule that the priority user should not have to brake or lift off at all.
Or should you wait if the non priority driver is clearly going to arrive in the "chicane" well before the priority driver does. What is the etiquette and if an accident occurs just at the exit of the chicane who is to blame?
The one stretch where i encounter this on my commute creates untold problems both ways as its very difficult to assess the oncoming speed and its a challenge (especially if the priority user accelerates to you) to get through without causing these "mock" headons.
I note the sign is an "information " sign not a mandatory one so what does that mean on the road?

Clearly then you failed to give priority to the other driver and you are at fault if you collide.
>>as they have clearly been driving well above 30mph or accelerate.
and this has what to do with it? they have priority.

treat it as any other 'give way' junction.

What is the etiquette...?
In my village, if you are one of the local chinless wonders driving a mucked-about Corsa or similar, you either
1) if coming from the non-priority side, ignore the "give way" signs and markings and barge your way through to a fanfare of horns, giving the "I'm #1" sign to oncoming motorists;
2) if coming from the priority side, if anyone coming the other way gets through before you, swerve violently towards them in order to punish them for having got there first;
If you are a 3-series BMW driver, you have priority over all other road users irrespective of signage, and may treat the 30 limit on the road as a minimum speed.
If you are neither of the above, you do as the signs tell you.

yes that sums it up nicely

If we are talking about the gratuitous chicanes that local authorities waste money on in quiet provincial estates, where there's a sign with a fat black arrow and a thin red one to indicate priority, my experience is that the first car to reach the dangerous obstruction goes through it first, and the other lifts its foot to get the timing right.
I long to see a head-on crunch in one of these silly hazards, and listen to the ensuing argument between the drivers (one of whom will be sporting a fat black face and the other a thin red one).

I've got these in my road. A bus driver used his larger vehicle to force me and my pushbike over a kerb (it was my priority, and I was already in the restricted width area). I was able to stop him and get his details. A very strongly worded letter to his manager followed. I haven't seem him driving since!
|
How did you get him to stop bt? Overtake and force him into the kerb or ditch?
Chapeau!
