  • VW GOLF or anyother model - What car to choose ? - very much confused 11 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Verdict -DH found VW not interesting, Toyota ok. Whilst viewing all these , we happend to view AUDI A4 s Line Avant (58 plate , 36k for 14k) and quite liked it. Not pursuing because of the running cost. We would also like to consider successful 320D BMW. We are so confused. please help. Thanks, Vidhya
  • 7 seater MPV - Child restraint not allowed in the middle seat ?!? 18 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Apart from the obvious safety concern I am worried there may be some catch for the insurance etc if you go ahead and put 3 seats against the manufacturers advice. We are considering Seat Alhambra, VW Sharan, Ford S Max, Peugeot 5008, Renault Grand Espace, or perhaps Kia Carens. Would be grateful for your experience and advice!
  • Family Estate - Used estate for 2-3k 16 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Having done some research,  I narrowed it down the following (although I'm open to suggestions): VW Passat Skoda Octavia Mazda 6 Toyota Avensis Honda Accord (although I think my budget would be tight)? As well as car suggestion(s),  I'd be grateful if anyone could advise as to what maximum mileage on a car I should cap my search at. Taking into consideration my annual mileage,  type of driving and anticipated length of ownership.
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee - what 4x4 £11k 22 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Once value of car under £6k found independants didnt want to know the Jeep - 15k miles a year (no real off-road driving), so expecting between 45-60k miles of use - i am not worried about depreciation as like the jeep i will use it for 3.5 years and then bin it in an auction - i am not worried about fuel. WORK PAYS FOR FUEL!!!! This is an important consideration Any top 3's that spring to mind
  • Mk 7 Golf GT TDI - Noisey Rear Shock Absorbers 21 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I understand this problem only affects the MK 7 Golf GT,s  I feel it is unreasonable to expect the customers to tolerate this noise and it is also unreasonable for V W customer services to expect the customer to ‘ ’live with it ‘’ the retailer says they are still selling new cars with this inherent problem therefore more people are complaining about it, however no improvements have been made after almost one year.
  • Renault Laguna 2 1.9dci 120bhp sport tourer - 2.DEF : Coherence between the boost pressure and a 26 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I have now changed what I think is everything but still problems persist. The car is still running like a bag of s*** and I am sorry to all those people behind me today as I puff out more black smoke than a steam train. I have been trying all day to re-set the Suzuki Swift SZ4 - Reasons NOT to buy a new Suzuki Swift 2 Feb 2013 (Forum)
3..small boot 4. reliabiity 5 years plus onwards 5. push button engine start (SZ4) is this a weakness that makes this car vulnerable     to theft like certain expensive BMW s ?
  • Ford Galaxy - Winter tyres - "van" tyres on a Ford Galaxy 22 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I currently have 195/60-R16 summer tyres, and the only reasonably priced winter ones in this size (with the High Load rating I need in the Galaxy) are M+S Dunlop Winter Sport M2s, but note that they are sometimes described as commercvial or van tyres. Does this matter (given the Galaxy is a bit like a van in any case!)? The spped rating is T - my current ones are H - but I believe that it is common practice to drop down a speed rating when using witner tyres.
  • Escort XR3 - Can someone explain Cat-C VIC check 15 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Hi all, Ive just been to look at an 1982 XR3 with a view to buying it. (note this isnt a debate as to weather you like XR3's or not) The owner didnt have the V5 doc with him and didnt seem keen to go and fetch it, i just put this down to lazyness at the time but now im no so sure. I have just done a Reg check via text and it says that it was subject to a cat C write off in 1998, the owner didnt mention this when I was looking.
  • KIA cee'd - 2008 1.6D Kia Cee`d grinding noise from front 6 Sep 2012 (Forum)
These pads were changed about 3500 miles ago both front and rear at 65000 miles and at the time (2 months ago) I was told the discs were in good condition. After leaving the dealer I noticed this noise has started again although it`s not as bad as it was. Anyone got any idea what this problem might be?

  • VW dealer - great service!! 24 Apr 2012 (Forum)
In addition to the service I asked them to change the cambelt and tensioner, check brakes (noisy) and check f/n/s door hinge mechanism as it was clicking a bit on opening/closing. Brakes were found to be OK, door adjusted. I expected a bill of about £600-650. It was £571, which I thought was pretty good.

  • Peugeot 106 1.5 diesel R reg - Oil Leak with pictures - Camshaft seal ? 20 Mar 2012 (Forum)
(Cleaned ) http://alturl.com/s9bcv (Same day , after a 100 mile journey) http://alturl.com/kezzd Looking on the internet, a recommendation was to keep the oil level below 3/4's on the dipstick on this model. So, I invested in one of these from Machine Mart for £12 & have found it to be brilliant ! http://alturl.com/j8cyq Now, the oil level is back around half full.
  • Volvo S40 - Volvo S40 2.0D - Good Buy? 16 Mar 2012 (Forum)
My alternative is an 09 plate i30 CRDi Premium with 14k miles, again 1 owner and full Hyundai history but of course there's the balance of their 5 year warranty.  Have had i30's before and they are value for money if niot exactly the most exciting car (and Volvo is??). Any help appreciated.  If they are a bad idea I will look for a Focus or something.
  • Volkswagen Passat - Acceleration goes down on motorways 14 Mar 2012 (Forum)
My VW PASSAT S TDI drives well around town but when I go on motorways, specially if its uphill, you feel a clear damp in the acceleration as someone has applied brakes on it and then its just no power in the engine.
  • Honda Civic - Brake Wear 6 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi, we have a Civic Type S GT 2.2 Diesal, less than 2 years old with 34,000 miles on the clock and full Honda Service history.  Last service was September 2009 when there were no issues. We've noticed some 'rubbing' sounds when braking, and so took it to a dealer who informed us the Front pads are 95% worn, rear pads 90% worn and rear discs corroded.
  • Unwanted extras. 20 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The SE gives you 15" wheels and normal suspension. The Sport gives you 16" wheels and sports suspension while the top spec S Line gets sport suspension and 17" wheels.  So if you want a good ride and high spec, you are screwed. Audi are not alone either, I have looked at a number of small cars where if you want leather, premium sound system, parking sensors, all round electric windows, climate control etc, which I do, you have to have rock hard suspension, privacy glass, sports body kit etc, which I don't..
