  • Toyota Avensis - Help me decide 10 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Budget is 12.5k plus my car as a trade in, so say 13.5k total. I have been looking at a Toyota avensis, Hyundai i40 - both saloons. Also looking at a Peugeot 3008. Had been looking at kia sportage but too pricy a year old. Had looked at qashqai but boot space could be an issue. I have been offered a leasing deal on a qashqai for 4 years, £220 a month with £666 deposit.
  • Any large diesel estate - Ride comfort 24 Jan 2012 (Forum)
My only requirement is that I don't feel the bumps, I don't care about handling I don't drive fast enough. I have recently purchased a Peugeot 406 Hdi estate estate which is very nice to drive but the ride is dreadful in spite of the fact that the car is reviewed as having a good ride. I am thinking possibly about a Merc E class as the handling is described as being a bit wooly which is just what I want.
  • Ford S-MAX - S-Max reliability and the alternatives 3 May 2010 (Forum)
Reading through other previous postings however, I'm a bit worried about reliability. Is it really that awful? I've driven Peugeots for 18 years, and apart from the odd niggle they've always been fine. Is this another case of the reputation being worse than the reality? If the S-Max isn't the answer, is the reliability of any of the obvious alternatives (Grand Scenic, Mazda5, Touran etc) that much better?
  • The life and times of the humble glowplug... 27 Jan 2010 (Forum)
In the days of indirect injection diesel engines, glowplugs would have been needed for all cold starts and a fair few luke warm starts too. I seem to recall needing some new ones at around 90k miles on an old Peugeot 205 that I ran. In the main, I don't think they used to stay on to reduce emissions after a cold start though. In modern DI/CR units, the glowplugs only really come in to play to aid starting in sub zero temperatues.
  • Audi A3 + S3 (2003 - 2008) - 07 2.0 Unusual throttle response 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
After enjoying my Peugeot 306 for 8 years I bowed down to pressure and let my son have it. The new one is an A3 quattro 2 litre diesel which has a strange response. If I drive a little quickly into a bend it does not respond as I am used to in all my previous (Front Wheel Drive Cars) whereby I could lift off the throttle at the right time and the front end would bite in and I could steer the car round.
  • Cars parked blocking my drive 27 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Street is pretty narrow - typical housing estate set up. By going so - getting out my drive involves quite an effort despite the fact it's only a small Peugeot 205. Weekends are a different matter altogether. Because I race or practice on the scrambler - getting the van out the drive is a complete nightmare - often taking a good 10 minutes of forward/reverse turning.
  • Need something v.cheap, powerful and economical! 7 May 2009 (Forum)
My question is, can anyone suggest any diesels that i could get for for £1000 or less that are good on fuel and could be kind of fun to drive. I have been looking at Peugeot 306 turbo diesels which do handle great but even with good torque, only having 90bhp is a bit of a big step down in performance! I am happy to accept a bit of a drop in performance but i dont want to be forever willing it to shift a bit more!
  • Crack in the gearbox. 23 Feb 2009 (Forum)
When he got there he was arrested and 74 packets of heroin and crack were found hidden in the gearbox of his Peugeot hire car. That set me wondering for a bit until I came to the conclusion that the newspaper had probably meant glovebox. Thought I might be able to get some baccy past customs in my power steering reservoir !
  • largest internal space: smallest external body 25 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Of all the cars that met these requirements in the last 20 years that I can remember was the Passat of about 1988 (which had acres of rear legroom) and the Peugeot 605 which was very long, but used the space well and was effectively a mobile lounge for all inside. The overall internal space of the Outback is quite poor in comparison with its length and would be interested in what experiences other BR member have had.
  • FIAT Scudo (2007 - ) - 2001 2.0 HDI Diesel Pressure Sensor????? 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Morning Gents, Pulling my hair out with this one, any help much appreciated!! Scudo van same as Peugeot Expert, 2.0 HDI, The problem is, heavy diesel knock, erratic reving, engine management light on, seems to improve when the engine is worm but still very hesitant and not really driveable, its over fueling as black smoke and strong diesel smell.
  • Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - Sell or store - which is best? 22 Mar 2008 (Forum)
No problem about going down on the comfort level provided I still have air-con. :-) Any advice? Oh, and one other thing - are all the 4 year old Peugeot 307s on eBay being advertised for about £4k with 1 mile on the clock con-jobs, 'cos there's a lot of them. They appear to be in West Yorkshire, so I'm wondering if they're all flood-damaged ones and being sold on the sly.
  • Recommend possible new cars for my dad? 15 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My 75 year old dad currently drives a 2.0 hdi Y Reg Peugeot 806. He is having problems with it that I will be posting in Technical shortly but I can see this ultimately leading to him having to change the car. He currently tows a caravan that he would like to continue towing but may accept that his towing days are behind him (he also has a static caravan on a site).
  • Car Salesmen 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Having trailed around a number of main agents looking for a small car I have been amazed at the lack of knowledge on the part of the sales people. When asked about the imissions not one was able to answer and one came back with incorrect figures(Peugeot 1007 1.4hdi sport is over 120g but a 1.4hdi dolce is under making it available for cheap road tax and free entry to the congestion zone under the new proposals)he said they were all over 120 a big selling point missed.
  • 200 miles and dead plugs on a 306 28 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I have a Peugeot 306 1.8 Meridien, 2000 'V' reg with 83000 miles on the clock. I recently had a full service performed including new spark plugs. The first time I drove the car after the service was a 300 mile motorway trip.
  • Wheelbase and ride quality 11 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I remember a long time back, I think it was LJK in one of his essays said the longer the better. His class standard was the Peugeot 505 or similar (handsome beast especially GTI). Being the driver of a new shape Fiat Panda which has a tendency to 'pitch' and be affected by undulations in the road at higher speeds I did a bit of research on the web and was horrified to find out (if the figures are reliable) that it is not very well endowed and has the second shortest wheelbase (2299mm) apart from the Smart Four Two (1812mm).
  • Free car Pug 405 7 May 2006 (Forum)
Being a member of Freecycle, I thought that it was worth posting it here, as there may be someone here who lives near Bideford in Devon and may be able to make use of it. • Old Fiesta diesel - dying? 9 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I'm ignorant about diesels, but I believe there's no distributor or spark plugs to point the finger at? BTW, all the locals (French) swear that old Fiestas are a much better buy than their Peugeot/Citroen/Renault counterparts! Easily fixed, or do I put up with it? It cost me more than you might think to buy - used motors in France fetch higher prices than in the UK.
  • pug 205 timing problem 27 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hey everyone, I have a problem with my little old peugeot 205, its not a GTI or a diesel, cant find the documents but it is a D reg 1 litre petrol engine. I think there are two problems: 1] it does not like the wet - at all! if i drive over a puddle, it will sound like its drowning, then cut out and not start for at least an hour - think this is the distributor cap - but i dont understand this as I have had this replaced since the problems started and it is still happening, I was told to stick a plastic bag over it to try and see if that stops it, do you agree?
  • Scam or Not? 24 Nov 2004 (Forum)
A friend of mine placed an ad in Autotrader on Thursday to sell her Peugeot 206 cc, as she now has a company car and thinks it daft to keep paying tax, insurance etc for her own. She has a call today from a company telling her about their service. I won't name the company as I'm not sure whether that would go against the name and shame rules.
  • Torque peaked? 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Cheddar and RF's postings in the Car Performance Data Base thread got me thinking about normally-aspirated petrol engines in production cars: 20 years ago, 55 BHP per litre was a rule of thumb for your average car, and about 65-68 bhp/litre for the 'sports' models - e.g. 130 bhp from the 2.0 Cavalier Sri130 and 2.0 Fiat Strada Abarth, and 110bhp from the 1.6 Peugeot 205 Gti and original 1.6 Golf GTi. Then around 1987 came the Astra GTE 16v and power outputs for 2.0 litres went up to about 150-160 bhp. And they've not moved such a great deal since, until the fairly recent proliferation of variable valve timing has given us 190 to 200, or 240 in the Honda S2000.
