  • Remote control fasteners 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Automatic bolts that are controlled remotely by wireless: http://tinyurl.com/kyoqd The possibilities are considerable. No more trying to get at that bolt that you have to be double jointed to access. Invisible fastenings that have no outside traces but open themselves from inside.
  • DVLA Renewal for 70 y.o. 21 Jan 2006 (Forum)
As he normally lives abroad and very rarely returns to UK he wants to try and renew the licence before returning to his sailing boat in a couple of weeks and sailing off into the sunset. The DVLA site says they send out the forms automatically three months in advance. Before attemting to ring them , do any of our older backroomers know or have experience of whether renewal can be brought forward and if so how long it takes ?
  • Oil hungry Almera 1 Aug 2005 (Forum)
SWMBO has a September '04 1.8 Almera automatic. Whilst filling up the washer fluid bottle tonight, I thought I'd check the oil level. It was well below the lower limit on the dipstick. As the car has only done around 6,000 miles since new, I was rather surprised.
  • How to sell old car 25 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I have just ordered a new car and have an old Proton MPi 1.5 SE Automatic saloon to dispose of. The new car is due delivery on 1st March and I need my old car until then for commuting to work etc. I kept it out of the deal on the new car because it may have soured the deal.
  • VW Golf Headlights 21 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Is there anyone else with a similar experience - I think this is very odd. Is there a design fault with this, which could be potentially dangerous if both lights automatically fail when driving? Thanks
  • Quality & comfort of ride 23 Jun 2003 (Forum)
In the market for a small to medium sized car to replace a Cavalier CD automatic. Unfortunately all those I have tried so date, like the Jazz (the new one), Yaris, Mercedes 160,& 220 and the small Skoda all ride like bricks. The cars from France seem to be better sprung but I am not over fond of Renault.
  • Vauxhall Omega 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I am considering changing my car (new shape Mondeo) and like the idea of a bigger engined rear wheel drive automatic. I have seen Vauxhall main dealers offering 03 plate 2.2 CD models (with met paint and auto) with 4 miles on for 15k. This is, I gather, about 5k off list - seems a lot of car for the money, but then I realise the Signum is going to replace it soon.
  • Golf mk2 strange ignition problems 14 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Anyone any ideas- My golf1600 mk2 driver(h reg automatic)with carb and transistorised ignition loses power after 15 mins driving and misfires so badly that it stops. After a 3 minute "rest" it starts fine and goes for another 15 minutes. I've changed the plugs, dist cap and rotor, hall sender, control box all in the last year but the problem has restarted again after being ok for 9 months, would the parts nedd changing again or is there somthing I'm missing?
  • Mitsubishi Galant Estate 29 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I`m off to check out an automatic 2.0 and a 2.5 V6 Galant Estate in the next day or two. They look ideal: the size of an Omega with the reliability of a Honda and no image to speak of so minimal theft worrys!! Reasonable insurance - even for the 2.5 - and well within my £10K budget.
  • corsa 1.2 choke 18 Oct 2002 (Forum)
If I was to drill a hole into the airbox to take the hot air feed this would allow the engine to warm up quicker yes???? But would this cause me any problems when the engine has reached operating temp. The automatic choke stays on for a long time due to no warm air entering the engine and I assume this is causing bad fuel economy.......
  • Cruise Control 12 Jul 2002 (Forum)
A friend of mine is buying a new car and believes cruise control is a most desirable extra. My experience of these devices is limited. SWMBO had an Automatic Talbot Alpine years ago and the cruise control was dreadful. It accelerated and decelerated noticeably when engaged and this surging motion made it completely unacceptable. I had it on a Merc, again a long while ago, and the surging was noticeable on this as well.
  • Battery Recommendations? 10 Jun 2002 (Forum)
The signs are that I'm close to needing a new battery on my 1992 BMW 525i automatic. I thought I'd get a quote from the local BMW dealer but also from a couple of other sources. I'm after a good quality battery at a reasonable price; the trouble is I am out of touch with the technology and don't know what to look for.
  • Peugeot 404 17 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I/we have an old (1991) H reg 405 GTX estate automatic. The poor old thing must be getting to the end of its natural. what do I/we do? Flog it privately? put it into BCA at Blackbushe? part exchange it, or what? How much am I/we (notice I am being very careful to include her indoors in this decision making) going to get?
  • Honda Prelude Import 10 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I have just acquired a 1993 Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC Automatic which is a japanese import on L reg. The speedometer is marked up to 180 kmh max which works out as 111mph. I understand japanese cars (and motorbikes?) are restricted to this top speed. Is there a way of derestricting the Prelude?
  • Jaguar X type 2.5 Auto 24 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Is anyone else disappointed with this car? I know it has 'sport 'mode and a manual selection option, but that isn't the point of an automatic. I was completely put off.
  • Fuse box problems with Ford Granada 2 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I think the switch for the kickdown is going, the Ford dealer says this is ok. Does anybody have any ideas ? Ford Granada/Scorpio, Model 1992 2.0 DOHC automatic Thanks in anticipation. Stuart
  • Renault Laguna Auto 4 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I have an "N" reg Laguna Automatic. For a few months I've had a problem with it "holding" low gear when cold, but today it went to "3" on the Motorway and stayed there for 40 miles all the way home. Running it later when cold, it's doing the same thing.
