  • 306 HDI top end engine very noisy 19 May 2006 (Forum)
My Peugeot 306 HDI (W reg/2000 105000 miles) still goes very well but the engine has gradually become very noisy. As I accelerate the noise suddenly disappears at 3200RPM approx and the engine sounds as sweet as it used to.Cam belt, idlers/tensioner,water pump and crankshaft pulley have all been replaced.
  • And the survey says.... 23 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Auto Express had releases a few comments about their Driver Power 2006 survey (lots in the magazine I'm sure) www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/65609/driver_power_2006_the_results.html Just a few things that most of us already know (and some of us act on when selecting a car): 11 of the 12 most reliable cars are Japanese nine of the 11 models suffering from the most mechanical breakdowns are from French and Italian marques, most unreliable is the Peugeot 307. Lexus is best manufacturer but Honda has 3 out of the 4 most reliable models. Skoda has done well and Kia has a model in the top 10.
  • The SMS touch 19 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I'm not a fan of SMS, preferring to actually talk to someone rather than have a drawn out clickety-click to-and-fro with them, but I was pleased with the service from my local Peugeot garage: Having just booked in SWMBO's 306 Sedan over the telephone (first new exhaust back box after 11 years from new; rest of the system still fine!), a few minutes later I received an automated SMS confirming the date and time.
  • Dash lights - '93 405 14 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hello all I've been registered for a while now and have been watching the goings-on with awe. And now I'd like a little advice please. I've got a '93 L Peugeot 405 1.6 that runs fine but recently the dash warning lights (oil, battery, STOP, temp, fuel) all come on together occasionally if I brake hard or corner enthusiastically (not that I do that m'lud).

  • Faulty Lambda sensor (?) in PUG 306 28 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Would a faulty Lambda sensor cause the following problem on my 1997 Peugeot 306 2.0 XSi? On warm up it stalls until the engine is at normal operating temp. Also driving on the motorway the engine management light will come on for ages when going 60MPH+ Below 60MPH the engine light does go off.
  • Turbo Diesel Leaking Oil ? Pug 306. 22 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Hi, Just acquired a cheap, reasonably high mileage Peugeot 306 1994 XRDT. Appears to lose oil at a dripping rate whenever the car is idling. Didn\'t appear to lose much on a journey (dipstick still full). Definately not coming from sump gasket or plug, but maybe from front?

  • Windscreen Wash Not Working - Pug 406 1 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I have refilled the windscreen Wash reservoir of my Peugeot 406 and seem to have a problem with the mechanism. On testing the \'wash and wipe \' system no fluid came through - I then found that somehow it had drained onto the ground and there were signs of the fluid splashing in the area of the reservoir - although the cap was tight.
  • Diesel starting (White Smoke) 6 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi, My vehicle is a 1998 Motorcaravan based on a Fiat Ducato 1.9td (i think it is a Peugeot engine) The problem started Just recently and appears to be getting worse, when starting from cold, although it starts easily it runs rough for about 30 seconds with white smoke from the exhaust. after this it runs perfectly.
  • Which cars have the worst mud traps? 7 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Now that we are at the end of the Winter, it's a good time to remove trapped mud. Some cars have the most appalling mud traps to their long term detriment. My suggestion: Peugeot 106 (Mk 2). At the bottom rear of the front wings, mud gathers behind the plastic wheel arch liner and sits in a nice soggy wedge between the inside of the wing and the front of the sill. Good old PSA put the liner behind the wing flange, so the mud gets in and stays there.
  • 306 Air Con Fault Diagnosis 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Peugeot 306 DT 1997R (Auto air con fitted) Fault - compressor not kicking in, nor fans, even though "green" light indicates A/C is on. Happened once before 2 years ago - at some cost main dealer found a break in wiring?
  • Gutless 406 Estate 5 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I have recently purchased an October '98 Peugeot LXTD diesel estate fitted with a cat. Having previously owned a 405 Turbo diesel estate I am very disappointed at the lack of power in the 406. It seems to have no more power than the Citroen 1.9BX diesel (non turbo)that I once owned.
  • 306 Heater Hoses 18 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Does anyone know where I can get hold of cheap non-Peugeot heater hoses to fit my 306 1.9 diesel as I have been quoted £50 + Vat for the ridiculous little things! Also how easy would it be to fit a standard turbo (PSA turbo from a scrapped car) to the engine or would it be better/cheaper to sell and buy a turbo-diesel?
  • Glad to be alive 3 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Suddenly, about 50 yards in front, a massive great artic ambles out of a side turning and straight into the inside lane. Mass panic behind it - drivers brake hard, a Peugeot 309 locks up all four wheels and slides sideways into the outer lane straight in front of me. Many thanks to Yokohama (tyres), German & Swedish (good quality brake disks and pads) and Bosch (anti-lock brakes that still work at 10 years old).
  • Best Hot Hatch Ever ! 25 Oct 2001 (Forum)

Price guides say: ( i know these are useless but anyway....) Parkers £ 8150 private sale What car £ 9350 private sale I thought i would be fighting people off for this car with its glowing reputation and sensible price but i was wrong.
  • After speeding, comes parking... 29 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Yellow lines painted under parked car A motorist has told of his disbelief at discovering that council contractors painted double yellow lines under his car - while it was parked. Philip Peters, 60, said he was stunned to find that workers had winched his Peugeot 406 off the ground - along with a neighbour's BMW - so that they could paint the lines in. Traffic wardens working for Westminster Council later saw his car, which was parked outside his shop in Queen's Park, west London, and issued a parking ticket
  • New car- similar to 205 XS but... 16 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Hi, I'm looking for a new car- I was going to get a Peugeot 205 XS (1.4). They are nice nippy little cars with good handling & modding potential, but of course they stopped making them in 1990ish. (Whenever- none newer than around a G plate). I was hoping to get something a bit newer than this, but similar to a 205 for perfomance, insurance, fun etc.
  • Cars with automatic gearboxes - ...fuel costs up, time to teach 'pulse and glide'? 18 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Which is PULSE= steady footing on that gas pedal and never I never repeat going above 2000 rpms ( keep your cool) GLIDE= coasting in neutral on all declines... ......On our Peugeot 2008 the overall long term fuel consumption (mainly Mrs F) is around 43mpg, but when I drive, it can be over 47 on the second trip computer.  On our automatics (ZF 6HP in the Audi, EAT6 in the Peugeot, it is so simple to flick between D to N to coast down hills and up to roundabouts etc., despite being sternly warned in the handbook never to do so!
