  • Vauxhall Astra 1.7 dti DIY remap y17dt Isuzu - Vauxhall Astra 1.7 dti DIY remap y17dt Isuzu 13 Jul 2013 (Forum)
As the owner of an old Vauxhall Astra 1.7 dti, I have been aware for a while that simple remaps are available that give a lot more power with only a small loss of economy. £200 though and it's not my car, it's my ex's.
  • Modern diesels ticking time bombs, when to get rid? 22 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I had a conversation with a work colleague yesterday who seems convinced that my   DTEC Honda Accord with 66k, not yet four years old will shortly explode in a ball of    flame.I told him the car had been faultless to date and that sticking to service schedule  will surely be enough to triple my mileage, but no convincing him.

Am I old fashioned in imagining that locating a battery beneath a fuel tank is inviting that kind of fire ?
  • Vw Polo - break fluid change in between services or can it w 2 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I understand the 1st break fluid change is due after 3 years and every 2 after that. I used to do a higher than usual milage, but am now back to 1 service / year. However the car will be 3 years old in march 2012, where as the service is due in July. So I was wondering if I should have just a break fluid change in March (and an MOT in the mix maybe)? Or do I need to do a service too?

Any mechanics out there that live  near Birmingham  Airport  that can do repairs on my ford escort. Its an old car and I can't afford garage prices £45.00 per hour.  I will pay a mechanic to do the work. Can you suggest anyone or someone whom has reasonable prices. • Nissan Micra - Nissan v Ford 6 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I have an eleven year old micra which has been great but I am thinking about replacing it .  I would like another nissan but i am not that keen on the micra shape now and I don't want a pixo.  The car shape i really like is the ford ka but having previously owned two fiestas, I think nissan is far superior, especially the body work, mine is just showing signs of corrosion now where the fiestas were corroded after five years.

  • Night-time driving-glasses? 17 Sep 2010 (Forum)
The thread about flashing oncoming Xenon-headlit cars prompts me to ask whether anyone can recommend night-driving specs to reduce glare. I'm not au fait with the most recent issue of the Highway Code but seem to remember I'd heard that the Code's advice (exhortation?)
  • KIA Picanto - Cambelt Change Intervals 16 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, I am now buying a 2004 Kia Picanto 1.1LX with only 12,000 miles on the clock. The car is perfect in every way but I'm concerned about the cambelt as its the origional and though its only done 12,000 miles its still six years old and i'm concerned that the belt may be perrished or splitting and therefore very prone to snapping.
  • Toyota Corolla Verso 2.2 diesel 2008 model - KnFilters 27 May 2010 (Forum)
I have just replaced my Toyota air filter with a knfilter.. and yes I do believe they are better.. in the fitting instructions mention is made of a "charcoal barrier" that is fitted to some cars re the emission. Now the old filter has attached to the usual paper element a blue/white gauze type material. My question is simply this ;- is this the "charcoal barrier" if so then appartently I must refit it..
  • Megane moans 21 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I have a close relative whom sells Renaults for a living. He currently drives a two week old 'new shape' Megane. In those two weeks the hand brake has failed, all electrics have ceased to function, car has refused to start twice. He comments that he can mark in his diary when a clio will be returned to the dealer.
  • AutoAid Breakdown Insurance 9 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi Back Roomers, I'm looking to purchase breakdown cover/insurance for the first time in a while as I haven't included it to my car insurance policy this year. I only do 8,000 miles a year in a well maintained 7 year old Ford Mondeo Petrol. Auto Aid seem to offer a great price for breakdown insurance, where you claim back the cost of calling out recovery/assistance.
  • Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 08 1.4 mpg meter 24 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Over the years I have always kept a check on fuel consumption of my car based on trip mileage and brim to brim fuel usage. I continue to do that now with a 16 month old Jazz which I have just bought with about 6,000 miles on the clock. When I filled up today I worked out the fuel consumption as 44.2 compared to the computer read out of 51.1.

  • Bentley - Sell off of parts 16 Jul 2009 (Forum)
http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/item.htm?id=6519 Maybe Lud could get some parts for his old one???? Seriously this made me think, how many prestige cars actualy do high mileages? If you look at a prestige dealer then very rarely do you see Rolls, Bentley, Ferrari, Lambo etc with high miles.
