  • First car for a growing family 17 Mar 2024 (Forum)
But I'm on the other I want my family to be comfortable on longer trips. My wife would like something woth higher seating position.  Currently I'm leaning towards Mazda CX-5 or Honda CR-V with the budget for up to £13k.  Car would be used for short trips on weekdays and longer ones on weekends. Ideally, I'm looking for safe, spacious, and comfortable car.
  • Any - Lease or Buy 10 Aug 2023 (Forum)
I realise that I bought at a bad time, prices were high. . but I can buy a second hand Golf for £17k and lose up to £3,500 a year, or spend £3,500 a year on a new Gold (or Mazda etc). Am I missing something? What are your thought please?
  • Mazda6 vs Mondeo 25 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Both appear to have been well maintained with reasonable service history and new MOT's, the Mazda has done 120,000 miles and the Mondeo 75,000. Just after some advice if there's anything I need to be aware of with either and whether anyone has experience of driving either model.  Alternatively if someone wants to suggest an alternative in the £5-£6k range I'm after a reliable family car of similar size.
  • Focus MK2 sized car wanted - automatic 7 Dec 2021 (Forum)
I've suggested a MK2 Focus, MK1 Facelift C-Max. Are these autos reliable? Also thought of Toyota Auris, Honda Jazz, Mazda 3,and Kia Venga. Are there any others we should be thinking of? Thanks.
  • Keep older gti or not 2 Jul 2021 (Forum)
So wondering whether we should stick with such an iconic car,(already paid for £1500) brave the fuel and running costs or sell it and get and more modern (2010 upwards £2500+) probably boring Japanese car such as a mazda/Toyota with smaller engine (but good enough for motorway)   Sounds like an easy decision but at least for us it seems difficult Thanks

  • Parts and paint - Cost of car repairs 23 Dec 2020 (Forum)
So a paint analyser costing £4 k is essential to match the colour exactly . But it seems that Mazda Red is the most difficult to match which takes up to five paint colours mixed together to match the original.  insurance companies are getting wise to this and raising premiums accordingly.
  • Insurance and travel to/from college 18 Feb 2020 (Forum)

  • Car insurance renewal 9 May 2019 (Forum)
The renewal came through from Admiral Multicar for £1053, very close to last years premium (£14 more). That didn’t sound too bad, but £300 for the Mazda seemed a bit much. So I phoned Lancaster Insurance and have now got it on a classic policy (although without an agreed value) for £115! And a quick trip to the Aviva website and the Logan and Yaris are now insured for £566 (£217 for the Logan and £349 for the Yaris, which is my wife’s car).
  • advantages of a "big four" engine ? 13 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Just out of curiosity - does a large displacement four cylinder engine have any particular advantages? My brother-in-law is about to take delivery of a top-of-the-range (Spanish market) Mazda CX-5 which has, apart from all the bells and whistles, a 2.5 litre four cylinder engine. Skyactiv engines have been getting quite a reputation for fuel economy but I am surprised to see such a large four-pot engine in production.

  • Mercedes-Benz A-Class - Diesel Hatchback choice 21 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Are there any issues with them and are they MB engines fitted to them? An alternative is the Mazda 3 2.2 Skyactiv diesel which has an excellent spec but I know nothing about the reliability of the latest diesels - I know the others had some issues. If these are not good options are there any other reliable ones to consider?

  • Comfortable & Quiet Crossover 28 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I am looking for a Crossover and here are my decision criteria in order of preference: Very comfortable ride, especially in London which is ridden with speed bumps and potholes Quiet Automatic (dual clutch or another 'lively' type of box) 9s max for 0-62mph (my current Seat Toledo TDI does just that and I would like to match or better it) Reliable   I don't care much about (although I could live with):  Handling (as long as it is not bad) Looks  Big wheels   So far I shortlisted: Skoda Yeti Elegance DSG 4x4 Mazda CX5 2.2d Volvo XC60 (although I'm not sure about their reliability)   Any pointers or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

  • Daily Telegraph advice - Honest John 10 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I'm looking for a £3,500 car to replace my Mazda 6. I don't drive a huge annual mileage, but most individual journeys are long so I want diesel economy, comfort and reliability. A Ford Mondeo or Focus would be suitable, because I need to carry a bike, and it's fine by me if it already has 80,000-odd miles on the clock.
