  Hi, can you help me. my X reg renault scenic expression ( auto) was running fine until this morning... when i started the car it struggled slightly and when idling was very juddery. when i moved off i noticed a lack of power and was quite noisey (juddery) and the orange engine light was flashing.

  Rear n/s tyre on Laguna 2 estate had to replaced at 35k - outer third of tyre was bald! O/s tyre also wearing on outer edge, though not so badly. Car is run mostly on motorways, unladen; anyone else experienced such wear? (Dealers say the back suspension is not adjustable; Passat/Audi80 rear tyres lasted for ever...)
• VW passat - Bad egg smells 1 Apr 2007 (Forum)
  I have a VW passat with climate. When I start the engine mainly and sometimes when running the smell is really bad. I tried one of the sprays you leave in your car for 10 mins and this helped for a few days but smell seems to have come back worse. Can anyone advise or have you had similar problems.

  Having found that sad little Hyundai Santa Fe falls into the persecuted band G VED rating (must be lowest emissions car that does) I'm wondering at what point to take a big financial hit by changing to an older 4x4 (not G rated even if higher emissions) or perhaps get it converted to run on LPG. Does anyone know if it could be done and roughly how much it would cost?

  The TRACS off and ABS warning lights appear together after a twenty mile (aprox.) run in the warmer months. The driver manual states this to be caused by overheating brakes, but inspection shows all brake assemblies are fine. It also happened for the first time when the car was left in the sun for 3 hours last week.
• Fiesta really juddery when cold 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
  For the first couple of miles its very juddery almost like its running on 3 cylinders but its not. After 1-2 miles it drives fine. Does anybody know how I can stop this from happening? I am worried the car will loose power completly. Its a 1.1 Valencia with single point fuel injection last serviced 400 miles ago.
• Renault Clio Cambelt Failure 4 Mar 2007 (Forum)
  Can anyone advise how much damage is normally caused when the cambelt fails on an N reg Clio Oasis (1171cc engine (DA01243))? I understand that it was running at approximately 2000 rpm when the failure occured. I assume that it is an interferance engine and the valves will have been bent - is this correct? I have tried searching the site but have not found specific information for this engine.

  It's usually when the car's driver has been caught speeding or committing some other offence, like running a red light. For the people who can't remember who they allow to drive their car, wouldn't it be sensible to expect them to keep a record?
• Valve Stem Oil Seals - Pug 205 1.4 11 Jan 2007 (Forum)
  Our much loved Pug 205 1.4 Cabrio (85,000 miles) has started smoking on startup from cold, once reved a couple of times the smoke clears an it runs just fine with no loss of performance and no further smoking. I suspect valve stem oil seals need renewing. Is this a fairly straightforward job without removing the head?

  I'm hoping that someone can tell me what's wrong with my trusty 113k 1.6 1995 P10 Primera. When the engine is running and I have my lights on the alternator makes a whining noise whilst idling. If I am driving it or give it more revs the whining stops. The battery light does not come on when driving Does this mean my alternator is on the way out?

  I am currently running 2 cars with "plastic" headlamps. They both take H4 bulbs and I noticed that when I removed a blown bulb it was marked "E1". I have a couple of almost new Philips H4 bulbs from a previous car I scrapped marked E11.

  The e/m light on my Daughters Polo came on recently , took it to a VW specialist and his diagnosis was that a misfire was showing on the faultcode . so far as I'm aware it has never misfired and he switched the warning light off , it has now come on again athough the cars running fine it's intermittent and tends to come on when the engines idling . Any ideas ?
• W Astra Power Steering Noise 10 Nov 2006 (Forum)
  The power steering on my W reg / 2000 Astra 1.8SXi starts a droning whine as soon as the engine is running. Above 30 MPH the engine drowns it out. While the car is stationary touching the steering wheel makes it change in pitch. Bearing in mind the age of the car if this is a harmless "characteristic" I am happy to ignore it.
• Rover 200 heater Fan 1 Nov 2006 (Forum)
  I have a curious fault on the heater fan switch in as much as when I turn the ignition off, and open the drivers door the fan starts up and continues running. this has aonly happened since I had the fan resistors repaired so as it would operate on speeds 1 & 2. Anyone else come across this unusual fault as I'm fed up having to jump start and recharge the battery!

  The clock analogue clock in my Y-reg Ford Ka seems to be running slow recently. Today when i got in it after not been started for a week i noticed the clock was about an hour slow, then once when i used it during the week it gradually became slower by a about 10 minutes.
• Rover 75 tyre suggestions 11 Oct 2006 (Forum)
  My father is looking to replace the tyres on his 52 plate Rover 75 CDi Connoseur (sp?). It's currently running on Firestones which produce a lot of road noise. Looking at earlier posts here, Dunlop and Continental tyres have been suggested as replacements for the original tyres. Is this still the case? Comfort and lack of noise are preferred over on-the-limit handling!
• Ford Escort 1.3 HCS engine - backfiring? 2 Oct 2006 (Forum)
  Basically, when warm, under load, and at low revs, the engine sometimes makes a 'popping' sound accompanied by a sudden jerk. Is this the engine backfiring? If so, what's causing it? The engine otherwise runs fine with no apparent misfire. Thanks, -------------- Mike Farrow

• Ford Focus Electrical Annomaly 8 Sep 2006 (Forum)
  We have a 53 plate Focus Zetec, and I was wondering if anyone else has seen the following strange electrical annomaly, ie when the engine is running with the lights on, if you blip the throttle, as the engine settles down to idle, all of the light flicker briefly and then settle back to steady again. I think this has always been the case, but I was wondering if this is a normal annomaly of this model ?
