Rover 75 tyre suggestions - Chicken Vindaloo
My father is looking to replace the tyres on his 52 plate Rover 75 CDi Connoseur (sp?). It's currently running on Firestones which produce a lot of road noise.

Looking at earlier posts here, Dunlop and Continental tyres have been suggested as replacements for the original tyres. Is this still the case? Comfort and lack of noise are preferred over on-the-limit handling!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
CV

Blackcircles recommends Pirelli, Dunlop and Falken. Not had much experience of Falken tyres, but they're fairly cheap, and lots of people seem to like them.

Just a word of warning, if you want ultimate wear, be prepared for greater road-noise and poor handling in the wet.
There is viruallty no such thing as an all round tyre, there has to be a compromise in one or more areas.
The nearest I have evr found to the 'holy grail' in tyres are the micheling pilot series tyres. They wear well, are great in the wet, and quiet on the road, however they are always significantly more expensive than most of the competition.
When I had a company car, I slipped a 'bung' to a tyre services to tell the lease company they only had the Michelins in my size, so I didn't have to endure Dunlops, which was the prefered tyre, (cus they last forever).

Rover 75's have incredible appetite for tyres as it is, especially heavy nosed ones - 2.5 litre and to lesser extent diesel. Any quieter tyres will be softer, put softer tyres on 75 and it's just going to eat them up like Mars bars.

I purchased my 75 CDT with Pirellis on it and then when they needed changing I had a cheap make put on and the road noise was terrible. A few months ago I had Dunlops put on, around £75 each from kwik fit and it was like driving a different car - no whining and far better grip.

Out of the three the Dunlops were the best by far, Ive got Michelin on my recently acquired Audi and will be changing them shortly as they are terrible on the motorway.

I spoke with etyres.co.uk, who helpfully suggested that Bridgestone ER30s and Michelin Primacys were the most quiet - but may not fit all sizes I guess. I looked over a few sites, and noticed differences in emphasis - if grip is the first feature, silence is unlikely to be an equal priority. Dunlop make a big noise (...) about quietness on their SP3000 section.

Can depend on the wheel size. From the factory the 15 and 16" came with Continental Contacts and they have proved to be the quietest tyre for the car. They are softer than other tyres though so you'll likely get around 20,000 miles but not more.

If you have a 1.8 then the tyres will last longer but with the Diesel or KV6 then 20k is most likely.

PS

BlackCircles seems to rate the brand:

I seem to recall that a forum member stated that Falken was linked to Goodyear.
