I have come across this company that does extremely good rates on breakdown cover. For £59 you can get cover for both UK and most of Europe. They will even cover older cars (20 years). Cover is provided by Europ Assistance who I would imagine are very good.
NB. I have no connection with this company and can't comment on their competence.
Might be useful to people planning their summer holidays and/or run older cars.

We found Europ Assist very good, when we used them for year-round European cover when we lived in the UK and as the breakdown cover part of our current French car insurance policies.
