  My 2003 1.6 Focus had a "major" service at 20600 miles last week. 3 days later, on starting the engine, the cabin was filled with the smell of rotten eggs. Windows have been down, air con on and a 200 mile long journey completed but still it smells inside. New tankful of BP (but not Ultimate) has gone in now. Standing outside car with engine running - no smell from exhaust.

  When using the air con or not I have a smell emitting from the air system, sometimes the windscreen steams up. My local garage has advised me that the cost for this is around £100.00, this indicates to me that this is a relatively small job and possible within my capability?

  The cabin filter for the air-con on my 04 Kangoo seems blocked after a very dusty holiday. Air flow is way down and it smells !Problem is that I can't find the filter and don't want to visit the main dealer until I need to at 18000mls ( I change the oil and filter myself at 6000 ) .

  I've recently bought a used car that was owned by a smoker. The interior valet seems to have got rid of most of the smell. However, when running the heating there is a lot of cigarette smell coming through.  This is without running the air con. Is there anything I can do to get rid of this? Would a change of the cabin filter help?

  Having a bit of a problem at the moment. When i start the car in the mornings there is smells quite strongly of exhaust fumes. I've had the car in at the garage for the last couple of days but they can't find evidence of any leks etc. Cleaned out the Breathers? and treated the air con - but still smells.

  It seems to be clear liquid, doesn't have a smell to it, so I don't think it's windscreen fluid. The car seems to be driving OK, doesn't seem to be running poorly. Does anyone have any ideas? Having never owned an air-con fitted car myself, It's a bit of a mystery - the wife only uses the air-con sporadically, but I follow the Ford manual which instucts running the air con for at least 30mins per month.

  Next step is to look at the pollen filter/fan inside. Filter was changed last year. Last owner says some de-odourising was done on the air con when it was serviced by Vauxhall. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. Cheers, Mike

  Hi on my Vectra 1.9 cdti Sri I have been using Aircon and car seems to lack power when Aircon is on also when I pull away it nearly stalls with Aircon on then when I switch car off after using Aircon there is a funny smell would air con need repair thanks

  Despite using it regularly throughout the year, my Fiesta's air con has finally started smelling a bit farmy. I've used a propriety aerosol cleaner/disinfectant of the type discharged in the footwell, which has helped but not eliminated the problem. I'm considering spraying another of these directly onto the evaporator matrix.

  We had a sticking front calliper which was replaced in January. Since then, (perhaps it was there before) we have had a smell of burning come through the vents in the car (no air con). When in town you usually smell it at traffic lights. And I think the smell comes from acceleration. Although after a long journey along country roads and some pretty big hills the smell was particularly bad.

  Guys - Since the hot weather has arrived, my wifes Fiesta Zetec has started leaving a puddle in the passenger footwell. The puddle doesn't smell of coolant etc so I assume its clean water. Its only really been evident since she has been using the air con lots so im guessing its a blockage in the condensation drain pipe? I doubt it is the usual suspect (pollen filter cover) because it hasn't been raining!

  Postings have appeared asking how to get rid of stale air-con smells and kill bacteria in the ventilation system. Our Japanese car accessory shop is the size of a medium supermarket and carries stuff you?ve never heard of (and frequently can?t read the instructions for).

  I'm taking delivery of a brand new (new shape) Astra. 1.6 SXI Has anybody had any problems that could have been avoided with a bit of pre-warning. eg reading in Honest Johns column that the Renault Scenics have their Air Con pumps near the front skirt vents, ie right in line for flying stones to smash the casing. Someone rectified this by putting mesh at the rear of the vent. You get my drift?? Cheers All, As a reward... my bestest joke, There was this woman who goes to the Doc's.

  My recently purchased 51 plate 320d touring (30k with full BMWSH) has been dropping small quantities of what I believe is either diesel or oil on my drive. There is also a strong smell of diesel coming through air con when sitting at junction etc. Are these 2 issues likely to be linked? I saw an item on this website about a known issue on 320d of this age saying fuel pump and filters are likely to need changing) The car was purchased from Lloyds Bank Car Select and came with full warranty.

  Tested the two gas filler points and gas hissed out. Have been running the car for the past 300 miles or so with the air con switched off. Ran the engine yesterday to warm it up to change the oil and got some burning smell from the left side of the engine (where the pumps/ drivebelt are. Couldn't see any obvious fault when I inspected the aircon components from under the car.

    Purchased my 03 plate ST170 5 weeks ago from a local independent dealer. Had numerous problems with the car all fixed so far under warranty (NSF suspension,Air Con, And a Engine sensor.) Unfortunately the car failed to start the other morning and a rather bad smell of plastic burning inside the car coming from driver foot-well.   The car was recovered by the garage where the warranty work was done.

  with my new second hand focus i have a few problems can anyone please offer advice on the following: 1 creaking rear offside door. when you close the door it makes terrrible creaking noise. oil? or structural? 2 air con smells of chemicals - is this dangerous? how can i get rid of 3 rear hatch doesnt open fully - gas lift problem? or just oiling bits? 4 front driver electric window opens all the way despite very short press on the control. passenger side only opens all way if hold swithc down momentarily 5 rear hatch makes terrible slam noise when closing - does lock need adjusting or are they all like this?
