Ford Focus ST170 - Engine Management failure - kirklander73

Hi all. hopefully someone can help me with this!

Purchased my 03 plate ST170 5 weeks ago from a local independent dealer.

Had numerous problems with the car all fixed so far under warranty (NSF suspension,Air Con, And a Engine sensor.)

Unfortunately the car failed to start the other morning and a rather bad smell of plastic burning inside the car coming from driver foot-well.

The car was recovered by the garage where the warranty work was done.

Apparently the Engine management unit has had a "chip on it" at some time in its life and im in the frame!! resulting in refusal to pay!

I have not chipped the car-wouldn't have the faintest idea how to.

Could anything else have caused this problem as I am at a complete loss!

Also if I end up replacing the unit at my expense i don't want to be ripped off! would a second hand unit be any good??

Thanks for looking, Chris.

It is very possible that the chip caused the problem people who chip cars want their head examining if you want to go faster buy a fast car if you want a more eco car likewise,I believe there is still a 70mph speed limit in the UK.As for work being done under garauntee I think you need to trace the previous owner and get him to say whether he chipped the car or not.I would as a dealer have great reluctance in doing any work on the car unless you can prove the chip was not your doing.
